Avatar n tn Lamictal is for his mood disorder and Focalin is for his ADHD. It you have any insight or answers, we would appreciate it. It is very difficult with the questions and stares from other children as well as even some uninformed adults.
Avatar n tn Tenex, which is generic name guanfacine, and clonidine are 2 medications that can be used for tics. Each have their side effects but they are in general safe and are often effective in suppressing tics. Some recent research has shown that behavioral therapy may be helpful to some individuals.
Avatar f tn Sounds just like my daughter. They have said the same thing. She is also high functioning autism. Our last visit with her neurologist she said probably transient tic disorder, but I am thinking tourette's cause she has been doing this since age 8 and now she is 11. She had a 24 hour EEG and they said it was self-stimulatory repetitive movements with some verbal and motor tics. Seizures were ruled out. I am starting to accept some of her problems are mental, but some are neurological.
Avatar f tn It sounds like she has developed anxiety which in turn shows as a tic disorder. Have you taken her to your doctor? What are they doing for her about it? I think that you need to get this under control first before taking on getting her into her own room. When that time comes though, you're going to have one heck of a time with her. Have you thought about getting to speak to a therapist of some sort? Maybe a child psychologist would be able to help. Good luck.
Avatar f tn He also has adhd(diagnosed at age 6). He takes vyvanse 40m. for adhd, risperdone 1m. for mood disorder, and clonidine 0.2 for insomnia. He has motor ticks such as blinking his eyes ,shaking his head, twitching his shoulders, claps his hands or taps an object with his hands. He just started doing a skipping thing when he walks. Is this a tic? All of the motor tics i just mentioned are constant. The vocal tics he makes are sniffing, clearing his throat, and humming.
Avatar f tn We have not given him any meds, as he has had the symptoms only for three weeks. One pedia neurologist recommended clonidine, but the second opinion totally disagreed. We are doing testing, and I'm starting him on supplements of B vitamins and Magnesium. Thanks for your comments.
Avatar n tn It sounds like your son has a tic disorder. My daughter started with eye blinking when she was 4 and she ended up having Tourette's Syndrome. It is not the weird cussing disease you have heard of in the movies. In fact, coprolalia (cussing) happens to a very small percentage of kids with Tourette's. There is a spectrum of tic disorders. Chronic motor tic disorder is then there are moventment (like your son's that last for a year or more, but no vocal (sound) tics).
Avatar n tn I am a 28 year old female. A year and a half ago I began having tics. These started from my right shoulder and progressed to included my whole body, though my upper body is mainly affected. I went to a Neurologist who referred me to a Movement Specialist and was told that I most likely had Chronic Motor Tic Disorder. Ok, that was fine. But recently I've deveolped another tic, a sharp intake of breath.
603015 tn?1329862973 Thank you so much for responding, no I am not the sort of person to give up, I have been fighting for her for years, she is a fabulous girl, I have bipolar ( just diagnosed ) so it makes me even more sure that she has a biological disorder, I beleive she has tourettes and bipolar but they do not want to diagnos bipolar yet, I actually just want them to give her the right treatment so she can stop sufferring.
Avatar f tn which is called a complex tic and he also has a simple tic at times which is just a sound. For my son, they are related to anxiety and being nervous or when he is trying to calm himself. A common time that I see it is when he is going to bed (calming himself) or when he is excited at a family function and things like that. I've talked to his pediatrician about it and his occupational therapist as he has sensory integration disorder.
Avatar f tn My son has Tic disorder and his twitching changes from time to time. His first twitching started with blinking his eyes alot. He twitched more when he is stressed, nervous, or excited. The doctor said to let him twitch and ignore it. That it is common in boys and they usually outgrow it. I was reading about the disorder and it stated to avoid caffeine. Which is hard for him because he loves chocolate so much. I too believe God has healed him.
401095 tn?1351391770 I'm taking xanax... which I think is similiar. About .25 every 4-6 when I start to crave and one .5 at night as usual to treat the sleeping disorder I've had for the past. It's making me a little sleepy but it's saving me from being a raging biatch and gobbling done what's little of my stash. PS.
Avatar f tn Clonidine was initially used as an antihypertensive but it has come to be used to treat a variety of behavioral disorders including tics, symptoms of ADHD, aggression, PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder, or sleep problems. Medication of this sort can be helpful and has shown to be most effective in conjunction with systematic behavioral programming.
Avatar m tn Hi, My son is twenty and was diagnosed with "transient tic disorder" eight years ago. After many nightmare medications, the one that has turned his life around is a med called Topamax. He has been pretty much tic free for eight years. Please ask your doctor about it... maybe it will work for you too. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Best of luck!
Avatar f tn But, a certain number of kids end up having either chronic motor tic disorder, chronic vocal tic disorder, PANDAS (caused from strep infection) , or Tourette's Syndrome. My daughter was also 4 when she began having motor tics (eye blinking) while in preschool. She is now almost 12 and definitely has Tourette's Syndrome. But, it is mild and hardly noticable.
Avatar m tn Tics can develop as u get older but are usualy present since a very young age ( as is your case) even if they go away for some time it is very common for them to come back. Stress can not create a tic but it can definitely bring it out . A lot of ppl with tic disorders experience a worsening of tics under stressful situations. I also am new at this so dont take what I write to seriously. It helps to do research.look it up a bunch:) Lots of luck ...!
Avatar f tn My 9 year old son hs developed a tic, I believe, from taking ritalin for atention deficit disorder. He did well all year in school, and I stopped giving him ritalin one month ago when school ended. It seems he has developed this tic of rolling his eyes after stopping the medicine. Does anyone have any advice? We have tried many different medicines- concerta, metadate, all wioth severe side effects with my son, so do not want to keep trying defferent medicines.
1511164 tn?1301580782 In 1998, a team at the US National Institute of Mental Health proposed a hypothesis that both obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and tic disorders may arise in a subset of children as a result of a poststreptococcal autoimmune process.[37] Children who meet five diagnostic criteria are classified, according to the hypothesis, as having Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infections (PANDAS).
Avatar m tn Yes, one tic may disappear only to be followed by another. Be alert for any vocal tics - it is possible, but by no means probable, that the tics are signalling the onset of Tourette's Disorder (multiple motor tcs and at least one vocal tic).
Avatar n tn Well, I'm not a physician, but I am a 42 y/o male w/full onset TS. If I understand correctly, your question isn't whether the congestion problem is being caused by the TS, but rather can the TS tics be triggered by the congestion. (Yes, I know you were clear, I just wanted to show I understood.) K, that said. Yes. I do believe there could very possibly be a connection.
19740770 tn?1483557078 t know if this is a factor but I have medically diagnosed anxiety and a persistent tic disorder and I was prescribed clonidine. I don't think that has a role in it, but who knows. So yeah, basically it would be so awesome if anyone had tips or recommendations on how I can balance school, work, exercise, and life so that way I don't put on any more weight. Thank you so much!
Avatar m tn s panic disorder (without agoraphobia) is causing most of the symptoms, and it is entirely possible that she also has a benign tic disorder. In any case, it is not surprising that the Celexa would help her - it is a conventional treatment for both anxiety disorders and depression. She may see a dimiinshment of the tics as she feels better. If not, the neurologist may prescribe for the tic. The treatment of tics is not straightforward, in the sense that a number of medications might be useful.
Avatar n tn ve had Tourette Syndrome for 30 years. For me, tic suppression has never worked. My parents tried using biofeedback and several relaxation techniques with me when I was a child. I saw a neurologist on a weekly basis for years. Trying to hold tics back is a HUGE burden and significantly decreases quality of life. I have found a remedy that has worked miraculously for me: a drug called Seroquel. I take 25 mg/day before going to bed. It has completely removed the URGE to tic.
Avatar f tn It could be a tic disorder (consider googling for more info). Also, stress and/or a magnesium deficiency can cause twitching.
Avatar m tn I have noticed thru out his growing years that he will develop some sort of tic or two.. over time this goes away, but always is followed by some other type of tic. He now at the age of 17 has developed eye movements with twisting of his neck... what is the best treatment for this?
