It is a prescription med but your GP or family doc might be willing to help you out by prescribing this. The dosage I take for my restless leg is .1 mg but my doc writes the prescription for .2 mg and I break them in half. You might also want to take a look at uspainfoundation.org and see if they have any suggestions that can help. Good Luck and keep us posted on how it goes.
Hi, restless leg syndrome (RLS) can be treated by underlying illness, if known. For example, a search for iron deficiency by blood testing to reveal underlying iron deficiency anemia by supplying iron. Elimination of caffeine, smoking and alcohol can be very helpful. Getting better sleep and exercise can help some persons affected by restless legs. Drugs include carbidopa-levodopa, opioids , tramadol for intermittent symptoms, carbamazepine, clonazepam, diazepam, triazolam, and clonidine.
I was ruled out for Tetrabenzene and Namenda but those have shown to be of help. Atenolol was helpful for me and can be for some but I was changed to Clonidine and they interact but that is helpful on controlling akathesia for me. Zofran was helpful in experimental usage. Again it would depend on the cause but those options were helpful for me so you could discuss them with your neurologist.
A counselor at a rehab I visited today told me you can get spasm and stuff like restless leg syndrome when you stop it. I switched to pill for after telling my doctor about the rash in the areas where where the patch was and he switched me to pills. Now I'm getting the rash all over my body. When I asked my doctor what it "did for me" he told me clonodine "takes the edge off." I think it helps but, just like all drugs, you shouldn't do it without a doctor.
My mother is currently taking neurontin for restless leg syndrome and this still seems to be giving her little to no relief. Is there anything else available for her or is there somewhere where research is being done on this disease that we could contact? Any help would be a welcome releif to the sleepless nights and pain she endures. Thank you.

So....when I was trying to get off of opiates, or at least when I should say I STARTED my recovery process, my doc was privy to what was doing on. She wanted me to get off without prescribing me Suboxin. She said it was trading one addiction for another.
Clonidine is a must for opiate WD's. At least it was for me. I'm 18 days sober today becauase of it.
Good morning. Yes, restless leg syndrome is the WORST symptom of withdrawal, in my opinion. It has a good side, though. If it were not for the rls, I would have relapsed by now. The leg thing was uncomfortable enough for me that i will never forget it and i don't ever want to go through it again. It feels like you have to keep stretching your legs and arms, and it feels like your legs are gonna jump out of your skin.
My dad also uses it at times just for bad leg cramps he gets from time-to-time. (Tonic water also has quinine and is often used for leg cramps.) I also had similar trouble as JayBay with the gel patches. I think for me it was because they didn't stick well and I wasn't getting proper release of the medication. Best of luck.
After much discussion with my doctor and my father, I'm now taking Tramadol 100mg 4 times a day for the mental issues as well as sever stomach pain and restless leg syndrome. I feel much more motivated and happy, not high at all, just normal. I don't have any desire to do Oxycontin any more, nor do I have the desire to take extra Tramadol because it works fine taking it as prescribed.
5 days should get you over the hump physically. I took some clonidine the docter gave me for restless leg syndrome and it worked great! I tried the over the counter stuff before and that didn't work. I craved lots of Bananas, oranges, and drink lots of ice water and gaterade. I never took any immodium. I just let all go natural. If you have any questions let me know. There is so much more to talk about during the first five days.
completely I also suffered from restless leg syndrome (and arms), and, of course, difficulty sleeping. And I ate like a horse. I seemed that a full stomach made the cravings less. (weird?
and you might feel some pain, but it will subside as the days go by...the most uncomfortable feeling is the restless leg syndrome, but it passed, even though i still feel like a 90 year old man at times...at least its going down every day and almost gone... dont worry...believe me, it will be hard the first few days, but if you make it youll start to feel alive and free again...
I took both the clonidine for about 3 weeks and the nerontin for about 6 weeks. They both worked for me. Very easy to come off them too. I am about 5 months clean and drug free. If you have any more questions feel free to ask me.
the usa olimpic committee doctor highly recomended calsium-magnisum to all the olimpic athletes for restless leg and leg spasams. peace !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and keep up the good work. your in my prayers. p.s when i got clean years ago i prayed for myself the firest year and nothing seemed to happen, in my second year clean it was suggested that i pray for other's ,well i took the suggestion and it radicaly changed my life, and everything that could go right did, just a suggestion.
I love your advice though, and I do have Klonopin, Fenergan (nausea), clonidine, and requip (restless legs), Lyrica (leg pain). I should be able to do it, but my mental addiction is worse than my physical addiction!!! HELP!
his body and mind will crave and need the drugs it is used to. he will get very achy, have spasms in his legs (restless leg syndrome), have diarrhea, maybe vomit, not beable to sleep, no energy, be angry, his skin might feel itchy. he will have to drink alot, gatorade, juices, water. he wont feel like eating especially what he told you to get. maybe something light soup or crackers.
Hylands Restless Leg Tablets (make sure it is the kind with Quinine in it) or Tonic Water (Schweppes is a good one) that also has quinine in it, sip on it until bedtime. Add something to it if you don't like the taste. I used sugar-free Crystal Light Tangerine flavor in mine.
Last night I ran out of pills and was up all night with cold sweats and restless leg I felt like screaming.I took 100mg of lyrica which I never take anymore and it just made me really dizzy.I didn't like Lyrica when I tried it a year ago but was at my wits end last so I dug it out of the medicine cabinet.I have script for Nuerontin I never picked up so I am hopin they will let me pick it up today.
For the first half of the time it was 1/2 mg and then later it was upped to 1 mg. I take these before bedtime solely for Restless Leg Syndrome. I did not have any anxiety problems prior to starting them. Lately, I've been having some anxiety and various weird symptoms (urination problems, but I also have a somewhat enlarged prostate), so I wanted to remove all the variables. A doctor friend that Klonopin can cause all sorts of strange things and you never know if it's the culprit.
Rush is right about the Clonidine. I took it for RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome) and Anxiety. It really worked well for me, I would take it at night before going to bed. WD might seem scary bc you don't know what to expect, but I promise you it will get better and you will be proud that you did it! We have done it and so can you.
The first 24hrs after my last dose of Vicodin they had me on Clonidine for my blood pressure, Serax for Anxiety, and Trazadone for sleep. (I still couldn't sleep very good because of the restless legs but the serax helped some) After 24hrs they started me on Suboxone. That only works under supervision because you can get addicted to that too if you're not careful. They had me on that for 5 days, tapering it down every other day.
Sounds like RLS (Restless Leg Syndrome). Try taking very hot baths as often as possible. Should be over in 7 to 10 days. Good Luck to her.
Hi, welcome to the forum, restless leg syndrome (RLS) can be really frustating sometimes and can be treated by treating underlying illness, if known. For example, iron deficiency anemia can be a cause and can be treated by supplemental iron. Some other measures like elimination of caffeine, smoking and alcohol (if present) can be very helpful. Getting better sleep and exercise can help some persons affected by restless legs.
Good for you tapering off of Percs! Ambien is a sleep med and is addictive as well, the only RX i would ask for is Clonidine and that is a blood pressure med that does help with the WD's some. Of course listen to your doc but thats all i can think of.
THanks Mary, that's what I thought, but all of a sudden I thought todayfor some reason, RLS....is that the aches too? But it is restless leg syndrome.....got it.. My legs just a aching!!! Didn't get RLS though, thank goodness. I know, I've slacked on the bananas in the past couple days, I'm so sick of them, my bad.
Severe WD's can have vomiting continually, shaking, tremors, nausea, diarrhea, unable to sleep, restless leg syndrome, panic attacks...you get the point...This will go on for 4 days, than settle down until you just feel crappy for a week or two). If the worst happens, then go back on your dose, and arrange getting clonidine (3xday) for help. Perhaps zanax for a week (only! VERY addictive, benzo's). Immodium for the stomach, an antihistamine for the "oversensitivity".
But i am pleasantly surprised that i do not so far have restless leg syndrome or any of the symptoms im reading on here about. Kind of scares me just waiting for the other ball to drop and start having all these other symptoms. So you think this bieng day three that i should be ok. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE QUICK REPLY !
