clonidine for pain control

I went to see my doc and he wants me to continue taking the conidine and ativan but to reduce the clonidine to .1 for two days, then 05 for a day then stop it. He advised just to take the avtivan at night until I can fall alseep on my own. He also gave me some roxicet and told me to take 3 today, 2 tomorrow and one the next day. He claims this will help me with cravings until I get into rehab where I can get something tradition for the craving...I start rehab on Monday and it lasts 5 weeks.....

For the last 5 yrs I've been taken the clonidine patch for high BP, no side effects, but the PVC's are still there off and on.

my doctor gave me clonidine to take at night with my regurlar blood pressure medicine in the am and i read up on it and it said don't take with rx pain meds so I haven't but I also noticed that it is used for w/d's so how long do you have to wait after your out of pain meds can you start taking it?

I have been on Clonidine for about a year for my blood pressure, but it helped alot with the w/d's. It doesn't take all the w/d's away but I would say it takes away about 75% of them. Taking that helped me function but I still had the rls and headache. It doesn't help with the mental part at all though so be prepared for that. As TinHead said you don't want to stop Clonidine cold turkey because it can cause you blood pressure to go through the roof...

Thanks for your response I praying clonine makes tapering bearable since I can't go cold turkey I'm hoping I should be off pain meds in 6 to 8 weeks that would be wonderful and my pain don't get out if control that's what got me on pain meds couldn't control it will over the counter meds

I just wanted to say that my psychiatrist just prescribed clonidine for anxiety. I am on Klonopin also. I couldn't find much info on using clonidine for anxiety, but at least now I know it's been prescribed for other people with anxiety too. I do NOT have high blood pressure.

So I TOOK CONTROL of my OWN health, which is why my BP has been stable now for about three years. I realize now I should have been put on Clonidine six or seven years ago. But, because doctors are formally trained NOT to prescribe Clonidine until pretty much nothing else works, I almost died in the ER before they finally put me on Clonidine.

It is really amazing my pain is completely almost gone, with the exception of a little soreness. I have starting weaning myself from the oxy and was going to ask my doc for some clonidine. How much does it really help with the w/d symptoms?

Are you taking it to control your blood pressure or for ADHD or for withdrawal from opiates? Is it prescribed or self-medicated? If you give us some more information we can help you through this.

My doctor just prescribed clonidine for me and said to pick it up at the pharmacy. There were no further instructions. He suggested I taper off even though I am 5 days cold turkey. I prefer to stick with cold turkey, but want to know if anyone has experience with clonidine. Many thanks.

anyone have any info on using Clonidine .1 mg for opiate withdrawal systems? Suppose to be a high blood pressure medication, but says it can be used for withdrawal systems too? wondering if it really works?

Thank you for your response. Sounds like we have a lot of meds in common. Do you use the clonidine for pain control or opiate withdrawal? Same with the gabepentin? Do you think one works better than the other?

I tapered down to 6 and then saw a doc and got on Prestiq (anti-depressant), Clonidine for the withdrawal and Klonopin for Anxiety and she gave me Ambien CR for at night and in 3 days, I went CT yesterday. At first it really took away the WD feeling, but last night it was torture. I took the ambien, the klonopin and I took .1 mg of clonidine. and my legs were driving me absolutley insane, up all night in pain. My question is, can I take a higher dose of the .

Theres no otc pain relievers that Im aware of that have negative interaction with clonidine, and yes you can take immodium. I take clonidine still to this day for my blood pressure and I use naproxen, aspirin,tylenol etc. and I was taking immodium during my detox while on clonidine. If you want to be safe go to drugs.com and look up clonidine and it will tell you all the possible interactions it can have. As far as I know there shouldnt be anything to worry about.

I know you feel overwhelmed right now but one thing at a time, You cannot control the fact that you have chronic pain so you need a pain doc, and at the same time you almost feel bad for being on so many meds so you want to stop. You need to wait until your appointment and follow orders. Maybe the pain doc can come up with other ways to control your pain? I finally told my doctor that i was addicted and to never right me a rx again, I detoxed on my own and am doing fine.

Will clonidine help me with withdrawal ? I have had 5 operations on my hip and have been prescribed oxycontin and hydromorphine for over a year. I tried getting off them but can't do it as the symtoms are terrible..Will clonidine help me? My medical dr has prescribed them to me and I havent tried them yet as I need some input on them.

I ran out two weeks early. I was honest with my dr and he put me on clonidine 3 pills a day for 3 days and a patch. It worked I almost feel like my old self. When he refills my meds next week I'm going to not take them unless I am in extreme pain. Learned my lesson!

She did prescribe clonidine which I am positive helped in the beginning she also petscribed some ultram for pain control it has been ineffective and have been to the e.r. 5 times already for my severe headaches. The headaches get so severe that it will be 3 days of nausea and vomiting and such excruciating pain from the back of my neck to my right eye.then off to the e.r for i.v pain meds antinausea nefs and fluids.

I took Clonidine for several days during detox. It really did make a difference in helping with my withdrawl symptoms. Helped to keep me calmer and in my skin. I also had a few tranzene that I took ( I cut them in halves ) . These two things along with the Immodium and otc pain meds were a hugh help for me.

Yes I am working on tapering off the pain meds. It is not working so well right now due my Phych. putting me on Strattera for ADHD and I had to stop it due to the fact it was cutting down on the effectiveness of the pain meds. I am almost thinking my main doctor is using it for the ween down from the meds and in place of a ADHD med till the phych. can get me on something different. My main doctor is trying to work with my phych. but has trouble getting a hold of him.

And that the I've been meaning to send in an update too on Clonidine, etc. Since starting the Clonidine, my pulse has gone down to being in the 70's or 80's, which is great for me. I cannot take a higher dose b/c of low BP. My pulse still goes way up when I climb my stairs or other mild exertion.

I posted this in my long long post about opioid withdrawals but no luck so I thought I would do a new thread.... I am coming off percocet 7.5\325 2 - 5 x a day and oxy 20 mg 2 - 3 x a day for the past couple years. I have a script for clonidine .1 which isn't doing much so I called my regular doc and he is going to put me on Klonopin ( Dosage unknown until I get script tomorrow). From what I can tell these are 2 totally different drugs. Has anyone used Klonopin for opioid withdrawls?
