Avatar n tn Yes, it is a common thing for bi-polar children to suffer night terrors, but there are plenty of perfectly normal children out there who are not bi-polar but do have night terrors. It does seem to be that bright children are often more anxious than the average and it makes sense that they would be more prone to OCD for example, but as you will know, cognitive and behavioural therapy can be very effective in dealing with this.
214901 tn?1227567555 Thanks so much for starting this thread. I've suffered with vivid dreams and nightmares, terrors ever since I started with this thing last year. And although I've tormented everyone here with hundreds of questions, I've been too embarrassed to ask about this aspect. I will follow your post closely and look forward to see what other people have to say. Once again, thanks for bringing it up.
Avatar m tn Sounds like night terrors, my son had these for weeks at a time- then they would stop- then all of sudden they would start back. It turned out after going to several doctors, he was experiencing night terrors as a side effect from his ALLERGY medication. The reason they would stop and start is he didnt take the meds regularly, since they were relief for seasonal allergies.
Avatar m tn My daughter is 2 and she has night terrors and i don't know what to do does anyone have any suggestions
Avatar f tn I never got to know how it went for the man, but his night terrors were filmed and documented for record. I wonder what is the factor in night terrors that orders a person to choke another person? If you have not used a sleep lab in the past, it might be a way for scientists to analyze your sleep and night terrors so correct treatment could be purposed for you.
Avatar f tn i am 22 years old and have suffered from what i think are night terrors since i was 16 or 17. they have become more consistent in the past 4 years. when i experience these supposed night terrors, it usually happens when i first wake up, i see an image the moment i open my eyes and it terrifies me, my heart rate goes up and i start screaming.
Avatar f tn My son is 10 months old and has been randomly waking up crying for no reason at night. Sometimes his eyes are even closed and hes standing up in his crib crying. The only way to get him back to sleep is to hold him for awhile then try to put him back in his crib. Most of the time when this happens he ends up sleeping with me because when I lay him down he screams.. Any ideas?
303824 tn?1294871401 my cousins daughter has night terrors as well. she was told to NEVER wake the child up no matter what. and to sing a calming lullaby that the child would recognize. it works for her.
Avatar m tn my two year old has never slept through the night but for the past two nights she has woken screaming in terror and cannot be calmed. She is onviously draeming as she keeps shouting phrases ' teddy in the water teddy in the water' etc it lasts an hour and she is then restless for the rest of the night. Any help or ideas?
Avatar f tn I woke up many of a night jumping out of bed, throwing stuff off of my night stand, I even woke up one night holding the lamp in my hand, wires ripped out of it, like I was going to hit someone with it. Many nights, I would massage my wife (which I assure you she didn't mind), but I would wake up feeling so exhausted. I hit my wife with my fist, and started having dreams of choking people, so needless to say it scared me enough to move to the couch after that.
Avatar f tn thanks for the advice, It just seems whenever I feel depression and anxiety I start getting night terrors too.
Avatar f tn I have a 9 year old boy who has been experiencing "night terrors" for about 4 years now. They are progressively getting worse. My husband also had these when he was young and even now will have one occassionally. When my boy starts to have one of these he starts screaming someone's name and will sit straight up in bed with his eyes open like he is fighting something and if you try to restrain him he gets more defensive.
Avatar n tn I'm living with my boyfriend who has night terrors. The first week we slept together I saw about 3 episodes in 1 week. After that I havent seen anymore til this morning. I barely turned over and wrapped my arm around him and he paniced. Started sayin stuff like please dont hurt me and dont bite me. We are both big into vampires! But this morning he grabbed me by my throat but not a choking hard just placed his hand around my throat saying please dont bite me and I wanna quit this or that.
Avatar f tn Night Terrors is a parasopnia disorder which will can happening on the first three hours of sleep. When that happens people will not remember their terror when they wake up but whenever they wake up their heart ratewill be high sky. Also whenever someone is having a terror they can be crying in their sleep, swinging punches and many other just to try to defend themselves. But once again a person will not remember what he or she dream about that terrorize them in their sleep.
Avatar f tn I just found out a few days ago and between my mind wrapping itself around the concept I am growing another human life and night terrors I can't sleep. Are these nightmares that seem so real and keep me from my sleep a normal part of being pregnant? ?
Avatar f tn There are many explanations for night terrors, but one good possibility is that you stop breathing while you're in REM sleep, since that's when your muscles are most relaxed. Sleeping on your back, eating late or drinking alcohol, all aggravate this condition. If conservative options don't help, consider seeing a sleep doctor.
Avatar n tn s a real problem and they need to go to the doctor to get some medicine for there night terrors? Also can anybody get a night terror or it only affects people that has a family that has a history of some type of sleeping disorder?
Avatar f tn Could she not be wanting to fall asleep? Maybe night terrors. Which she has never woken up crying or screaming with them. Could her brain be manifesting a pain signal to keep her awake. This may sound way out there but we had a friend suggest it. We are going crazy here. It is every night. And we want her pain to go away but do not know what to do. Oh and the pain will not subside with medication.
Avatar f tn My son at 3 mo old did something similar. He was put under for an MRI and he had night terrors (yes he was way to young to start this) for a good month and then it seemed to just disappear. He would start sounding like he was trying to swallow his own tounge or something...it was a very weird sound over the baby monitor and then we'd run in there like he was dying and he'd start crying and flailing his limbs but was sound asleep. He wasn't having a seizure.
Avatar f tn Night Terrors. I use to have them when first diagnosed with PTSD and Depression.
Avatar f tn Have you researched night terrors? If I understand correctly, night terrors can result from stress and/or overtiredness and usually appear between 3-5 years of age. I'm wondering if the change in your relationships could be the cause of stress and discomfort for your child. Try googling "night terrors and toddlers" or "night terrors and children" to see if any of the descriptions remind you of your child.
Avatar m tn my daughter is also showing signs of having night terrors and she is only 3. she has a lot of problems with sleeping, since she was born. her doctor told us to give her melatonin and wants to send her to a sleep specialist. i just do not know what to do.
Avatar f tn My son too. But My guy opens his eyes and sits up in his crib. My guy will go right back to sleep when we get him and give him a bottle. I'm asking my pedi when he has his 1yr check-up but I think it's his teeth and bad dreams. It doesn't happen every night but at least 2xs a wk. I went through this with my oldest daughter and it's funny because my youngest his personality is alot like hers they are both very headstrong and independant my other 2 are very cuddly and loving!
Avatar f tn When turning 2, she began having night tantrums. After reading numerous articles on night terrors I do not think this is what she experiencing as she’s coherent during the tantrum episodes and she recalls what occurred when asked the next morning. At 2 we also converted her crib into a toddler bed, not sure it this is the root cause to the start of these tantrums – I’m grasping at straws.
