656243 tn?1231288052 I know from that mood disorders website (that is run by a well kwown highly reputable mood disorders specialist albeit one I haven't seen) the phrase "any medication can cause any side effect" from the psychiatrist on there applies. I had extra pyramidal side effects from Lamictal and that's unheard of but my psychopharmocologist believed it to be factual, reported it to the FDA and its now a statistic.
585414 tn?1288941302 Its important that when people run out of standard mood stabilizers that some of the remaining choices do have potential side effects of concern, especially personality alterations. That's why some of them aren't often used. I've been through every mood stabilizer. Could detail but it would go on for pages. But after the common ones proved intolerable Keppra caused suicidal ideations. Trileptal caused an agitated mixed state.
Avatar m tn You need to see a psychiatrist for an evaluation and to determine what course of treatment would be best for you. There are things that happen to us that can be too much for us to handle on our own, and that's okay. There is so much help for you and you need to take advantage of it. Your children have endured a lot and need you more than ever, let them be your driving force.
1361367 tn?1280632089 I am taking 150 mg. He told me to take 75 mg for a week, then 37.5 for a week. Can I expect withdrawals?
Avatar n tn Bipolar is about periods of elevated mood (rage and euphoria) and depressed mood (both of which must be present for a diagnosis) whereas controlling behaviour is more of a stable, non-mood-related thing. I think lilymoon's suggestion is best. A counsellor should be able to provide a safe, fair environment where you both can work out what has gone wrong and what can be done. Also they should be able to refer either of you to psychological treatment should they think it necessary.
Avatar f tn The doctors are still having a difficult time finding the right fix for my Thyroid. This can effect your mood among many things. Back to this new dr. I learned that I was very low on Vit D and very, very low, he said, on Vit B. He also recommended Fish Oil with no mercury in it. I didn't realize how much all of these things could help my Bipolar. Obviously doing these things can only help me. But it's a little overwhelming and sometimes a bit hard to understand.
Avatar f tn Admission to having a mood disorder appears to be fashionable lately; thanks, in large part, to campaigning groups encouraging celebrities to "out" themselves. With all this talk about disorders - what is "mood order"? and how does "mood order" go from being ordered to being disordered - sometimes seemingly overnight?!
Avatar n tn Thank you both for your responses. I'm new on here and thought I was posting it to Mood Disorders. Bchild1108, taking away her favorite toy has helped, we will have to continue that. And your idea about those foods, we too will try taking away one at a time to see if there is any changes. As far as depressed, I don't think so. She never mentions a headache. There are times she looks really tired and seems to act up worse when she is.
Avatar n tn My daughter has recently started being evaluated for a mood disorder. She is 14. The counselor told me that it is difficult to diagnose bipolar disorder in teens, and suggested another disorder something that began with a "D". I have been looking at internet sites hoping to find what she might have been referring to, but haven't so far. Can you help?
Avatar f tn As for mood stabilizers you can go to the links page but assuming you tried Lithium and Depakoate (which are the most used mood stabilizers) there is Trileptal, Topomax, Keppra and Neurontin. Those are more in use. Lovaza is an anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar and it works in the same manner as fish oil. That is FDA approved and has shown promising results.
Avatar f tn Clonidine was initially used as an antihypertensive but it has come to be used to treat a variety of behavioral disorders including tics, symptoms of ADHD, aggression, PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder, or sleep problems. Medication of this sort can be helpful and has shown to be most effective in conjunction with systematic behavioral programming.
Avatar f tn Neurontin, Topomax, Keppra, Trileptal, Lovaza (anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar it works like fish oil but is an FDA approved medication) and Clonidine (which I take having exhausted all other options). Those are only the ones I've tried and am familiar with. I wouldn't reccomend one over the other but speak to your psychiatrist about any of these options (or others listed on that site which is clinically accurate).
Avatar m tn I went to see my doc and he wants me to continue taking the conidine and ativan but to reduce the clonidine to .1 for two days, then 05 for a day then stop it. He advised just to take the avtivan at night until I can fall alseep on my own. He also gave me some roxicet and told me to take 3 today, 2 tomorrow and one the next day. He claims this will help me with cravings until I get into rehab where I can get something tradition for the craving...I start rehab on Monday and it lasts 5 weeks.....
585414 tn?1288941302 So it turns out I'll be on Clonidine (Catapres application patch) for a long time. My psychiatrist says that I've tried all available mood stabilizers (if you know me that's indeed the case, 30 at last count) and its helping on my physical disability as well. So this patch is going to be stuck to me for a while. And so it goes..
Avatar f tn Hi, I’m currently taking Abilify, Prozac and Clonidine and I got offered a great job, I have to do a drug test, will any of these medications make me fail? It’s a urine test at arc point labs. I’m assuming no but I want to make sure.
Avatar m tn I was not able to tolerate Keppra because of personality changes and its not used often for this exact reason. The mood stabilizer I take now Clonidine is rarely used because it can cause depression and its a blood pressure medication in its original use with the potential of some severe side effects. I don't believe the medication Lovaza requires blood tests but like the rest of the mood stabilizers that would be listed its use as a mood stabilizer is experimental.
585414 tn?1288941302 Technically those medications are for my physical disability (which the Tenex was not working on as well as it should) but they serve as mood stabilizers as well (Clonidine is sometimes used for this officially). But yesterday going off the Tenex and starting the Clonidine there was a "rush" a feeling I don't enjoy because it signals the onset of mania. Today is a bit better. But I have to raise the medications at a scheduled titration.
915369 tn?1355314810 Yes it still can be difficult for me as the main mood stabilizer I take Clonidine is in patch form so by the last day it runs out and there is some hypomania but that new anti-convulsant I am taking for dystonic spasms has been noted as having mood stabilization effects in me so now its far less of a problem as that is taken daily like all medications. However, before that I would have to talk myself down.
1762497 tn?1313272219 Here is my question over the course of the last month i was slowly weaned off a yr and a half addiction to dilaudid. This past thursday my doctor gave me a script for clonidine to help with some of the withdrawal symptoms. I am about to start taking it tonight for the 1st time as directed, how will it help ? and how will i feel in the coming days as my body adjusts to not having the Dilaudid.
