clonidine for menopause

I have been in menopause for 1 year, 6 1/2 months and I have just turned 52. I think sometimes it is hereditary as to when things happen to your body. Every month though right around the time I used to have a period, my DH says my attitudes change as if I were PMSing only not quite so severe. I welcomed Menopause!! After 4 children and waay too many periods, I was ready to take a break from the monthly terror that I would become. lol I'll take my hot flashes any day of the week!

However if it is not helping then other medications are available for control of distressing hot flushes. Clonidine is one such drug. Consult your Doctor regarding the same. Also life style modification including dietary adjustments and regular exercise will help. Hope this helps.

have u ever tried a hormone replacement verses clonidine for menopause?

I have been in surgical menopause for six years now. I have been using the estrogen patch (Vivelle dot .1) since my surgery and have had no problems with hot flashes. However, for the past 8 months I having been getting hot flashes every now and then. Is this normal? When I mentioned it to my doctor, he just said I was already taking the highest dose the patch comes in and didn't like the idea of me using the oral kind.

WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.

clonidine is used for many different things: high blood pressure, excessive sweating, adhd,tourettes, restless leg syndome, migranes, bad menstration,flushing related to menopause, methadoneand opiatedetox,withdrawal from alcoholand benzodiazepines/valium.clonidine by epidural injection has been used to treat cancer pain.

I am also being treated for hypothyroidism. Any suggestions for what is causing these hot flashes/night sweats?

Kids at school are beginning to notice and are asking her about it. I have been given a prescription for Clonidine. Has anyone tried Clonidine? Was the Clonidine successful? What side effects were seen?

For the last 5 yrs I've been taken the clonidine patch for high BP, no side effects, but the PVC's are still there off and on.

I am taking clonidine for my Subutex withdrawal. It has definetly helped with the anxious creepy crawly feeling. It also helped with hot flashes. I wasn't given any info on not to mix it with pain meds, but you may want to call you doctor to find out. Or even a pharmacist might be able to tell. good luck!

1mg at 10am, 4 pm since i started and trazodone 100mg at night for sleep... anyone have experience with these? ive heard clonidine if you just stop taking it it can spike your blood pressure... and trazodone is addictive? i dunno.... anyway any comments would help.. i was gonna start today by reducing the trazodone in half and tomorrow cut back to just one clonidine a day for 3 more days... sound alright?

I have been going through the same also....hot flashes with cold sweat then chills, first air conditoner's are on then I turn them off. My family thinks I have lost my marble's. lol I just started this and find it very uncomfortable , find it worse at night so I am loosing sleep. I plan on checking my cvs to see if they have anything for menopause symptom's to take over the counter until I can see a Dr. till then I know I am not alone in this world.

I went to see my doc and he wants me to continue taking the conidine and ativan but to reduce the clonidine to .1 for two days, then 05 for a day then stop it. He advised just to take the avtivan at night until I can fall alseep on my own. He also gave me some roxicet and told me to take 3 today, 2 tomorrow and one the next day. He claims this will help me with cravings until I get into rehab where I can get something tradition for the craving...I start rehab on Monday and it lasts 5 weeks.....

I'm debating if I should see my Doc and get a prescription for Clonidine. I have a 5 year 120mg a day Oxycontin addiction and will try C/T on June 13th, taking a week off work to clean my act!!! Very nervous and scared about the entire thing. I'm going to follow the Thomas Recipe, try tapering a little first but was wondering if it's worth taking Clonidine, does it really work big time!! There has been some research with the use of the medications; venlafaxine (effexor) an anti-depressant, bellergal and clonidine, for treatment of hot flashes, these would need to be prescribed by your physician. It is important to talk to your physician before you take any medications or supplements, to be sure there is no contraindication of any of these treatments in your individual situation. I have been taking clonidine for the side effects of the hot flashes, and I must say, it helps quite a bit. It also works like a sleeping pill for quite some time, and that is very short-acting. Clonidine is not the same as Klonipin, and which is a sedative. Clonidine is a high Blood pressure drug but used for a variety of other causes. (I started out with .1 mg and am now taking .2 mg) it;s very cheap also, and I thought just worth mentioning, as I have never heard this mentioned anywhere.

hi.....i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.

It started working for me after about 24 hours.

second, my doctor prescribed two clonidine patches for me for any withdrawl symptoms. What do these do ? my doc said it woud basically knock me out...love that of course... but, i am hesitant because i had never heard of it... i know it is a little strange for a prescription lover to be afraid of a new drug...weird. but, i would like to hear about some experiences with people who have tried it before. I just wanted to say that my psychiatrist just prescribed clonidine for anxiety. I am on Klonopin also. I couldn't find much info on using clonidine for anxiety, but at least now I know it's been prescribed for other people with anxiety too. I do NOT have high blood pressure.

My methadone doctor suggested clonidine for these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it and I was wondering if it helps much, and is it worth even taking? Thanks for your responses...
