526311 tn?1229286330 The librium and clonidine are to help you not feel the symptoms (or feel less of them) of w/d. They don't delay w/d if that's what you are asking. The diarrhea is a sign that your body is experiencing w/d. Be thankful the librium and clonidine are working so well. You can take immodium for the runs on top of the other two meds.
Avatar f tn I have been on the fentanylpatch for 6 yrs. I went to my so called"pain management DR.(the only one that takes cash w/ no Insurance and told him I wanted off,not only because it makes my anxiety worse. He also has me on 10mg xanax, oxycodone 10 3 times a day.Fentanyl is down to 25mcg. He actually got angry and walked out of the room, called in 90 tramadol 50mg and .02 clonidine blood pressure patches.Tomorrow is the last day of my patch. Am I going to be okay?
Avatar f tn Also on Clonidine patch 0.
6815927 tn?1395511425 I have heard many benefis of clonidine and asked for a prescription of .1 mg BID. I also asked for an rx for gabepentin, i know this is for nerve pain but I have heard it used off lable for arthritis. I have also heard it is excellent for treating withdrawal symptoms. My PCP was hesitant to rx this because she has had limited experience with gabepentin, especially for withdrawal/arthritis.
Avatar f tn ) I have a PIC line for antibiotics so the staph will soon get better but my mail order pharmacy has been processing my fentanyl order for much longer than usual and I am on my last set of patches. I went through withdrawal once following a hurricane that shut down our city entirely for two weeks and it was not a pleasant experience. I have clonidine, valium and 4 mg dilaudid I can use to minimize the symptoms, but I am not sure of the proportions to use and how often.
3160774 tn?1343705010 I have Clonidine for withdrawals how can it help. I am scared to death. Have never been in withdrawal from Opiates. I was told 36 hours prior but am so afraid of precipitated withdrawals. Has anyone been here that can give me some advice?
Avatar n tn Both seemed to calm the awful withdrawal after have been on the patch for a while. Today,I am taking Methadone but will be starting the patches again this weekend. I'm not looking forward to the switch but at least I know what to expect...not that it makes it any easier to switch. Again, good luck and God bless!
Avatar f tn Thank you so much for the info!! I have been on clonidine for some of the decreases down which have helped with some of the withdrawal symptoms but I have low bp already so it causes me to pass out whenever I stand up. So it is kind of a tough call to figure out which is worse the w/d or passing out. With the brand of patch that is available to me, I am not allowed to cut it.I was told to try cutting it in the past and the medicine was not delivered properly so it caused me more problems.
6815927 tn?1395511425 She decreased my fentanyl to 175 every 2 days but left the oxy as is--she said I may need it for extra pain. She also prescribed clonidine 1-2 mg 2x day as needed at my request as well as ambien for sleep. I also asked for gabepentin to help with pain but she didn't want too many variables at one time. I think i am going to taper a bit quicker than she suggested. Now that I have the clonidine I may cut the doses in half?
1006065 tn?1251478669 Have been on Fentanyl patches (100mcg) for 3 years for neuropathy of both feet/legs and fingers (thank You diabetes type 2). Put them behind each shoulder abd also use Fentora 800mcg for breakthrough pain, but it doesn't always work depending on what type of pain it is (ie: Fentanyl will not stop a toothache). I stopped taking it for 3 days and the pain that came back was beyond what I'd felt ever before and practically ate the patch to get it on to start working.
774059 tn?1235681948 I was prescribed Clonidine for my Fentanyl patch WD symptoms. I think it helped me a little through the first symptoms, but it was a painfull process. I don't think you can ever take all the pain out of WD; it is inevitable. I was told to take it at night, but found it was actually keeping me awake. One of the side effects is insomnia, which is one of the last things I need, so I stopped taking it after a couple of weeks.
Avatar f tn Plenty of water, Gatoraid, and clear fluids. Imodium will help bowel issues. Ask your doctor for Clonidine. It helps some with the withdrawals.
Avatar f tn I have been on fentanyl for the past five years. I also take Norco 10/325, ambien10, and clonidine. I 've had two back surgeries the last one year ago. Oh the amount of fentanyl I've been using for the past year and a half has been 200 mcg every 48 hours. The injury was a workers comp, issue and the insurance company is the worst out there I think. Anyway since May they have been trying to deny my meds. Since July they have denied my fentanyl all together.
Avatar f tn m never accepting Fentanyl again for pain control! Been on the patches for over 6 months and was not prepared for this horrible detox! My kind doctor gave me clonidine to help counteract the bad feelings and uncontrollable body shakes. Glad i have it, but im taking much more than he said bc the symptoms are so bad! I think everyone should be able to detox IN-PATIENT at a hospital. Im temped to cut a piece of fentanyl patch for some relieve. Any suggestions, my new brave friends?
Avatar f tn If your doctor knew anything about withdrawal, he would have at least prescribed some clonidine to help with the hypertension. Clonidine is an old alpha blocker hypertension medication. For whatever reason, it helps a great deal with the other withdrawal symptoms. Buy a home BP monitor and spend a few extra bucks for one with a proper arm cuff. The finger and wrist monitors aren't very accurate. Keep a written record to show your doctor - IF you can get him to look at it.
9468967 tn?1403964906 How long does Fentynol withdrawal last? I have been on them for years, 5+. Have weaned down from 100 to 25's and just decided to call it quits, am soooo sic of this. Am on day 13 ct and still no end in sight. Any advice or encouragement would be apprieciated.
Avatar f tn Assuming that your medication does not contain barbiturates or benzodiazepines, there is no significant risk of death from stopping-- although as the saying goes, you 'only wish you were dead.' Opioids like codeine (which is converted to morphine in the liver) cause a miserable withdrawal when discontinued, but the withdrawal is not fatal. The other components of most cough medicines, like acetaminophen, hydroxyzine, or phenylephrine are also OK to simply stop taking.
Avatar f tn Yikes Colleen- That is a crazy jump. No wonder you feel like you are dying. Opiate detox is he*& for sure but jumping off 50 mcg of Fentanyl is VERY extreme. Do you have breakthrough meds left? You need to switch to an oral opiate and wean to a jumpable place. I did this- ended up jumping off of 100 mg of oxy and it was frigging awful but I lived to tell the tale and am so happy I did. Really, if you can't get to your doctor go back to the ER and tell them what is up.
Avatar f tn the wagons for this. I have clonidine and trazadone with imodium and some benadril for the snotty nose. The only thing I can't stand is the lack of sleep. I know I will not sleep at all for atleast 4 or 5 nights. Lots books to read and movies to watch... I will be posting here alot next week. Do you know what I will be in for... Like the difference between vicodin withdraw or oxy withdrawal... I know the vicodin was much easier than the oxy...
Avatar f tn i have been on fentanyl for about 6 years.i was on 200 but now on 75.i have been on some type of narcotic for over 20 years, but fentanyl is the worst.best thing to do is try to switch to something else while weaning off.it is really hard and most drs do not know,or just don't care.i once did not sleep for 3 days.then one time took about 30 clonezapam, and still no sleep.i find that to be the worst, the not sleeping.i get very ansy and worked up just knowing that i have my last patch.
5135507 tn?1367163227 Hi, I've been on the fentanyl patch 75 mcg for about a year...trying to wean off the 100 mcg that I'd been on for 4 years. About 2 weeks ago, time for my refill of the fentanyl patch and ocycodone 10/650, my dr office called stating my dr was fired and I was on my own. I've had 3 back surgeries and horrible pain, legs n back. I called everyone and nobody's taking pain management patients. Finally got into a pain clinic but it will be a month and I have no patches left.
1006065 tn?1251478669 I went off Fentanyl 1 week and 14 hours ago. I was given Clonidine and Vistaril for withdrawals. Couldn't take the Vistaril...caused more nervousness and anxiety (turns out I'm sensitive to it and to other meds in this class of drugs!) I took the Clonidine and my blood pressure came down so low, I could not hold myself up, I could not sit up and my head was so heavy it was on my chest.
6815927 tn?1395511425 Cold turkey will be be completely out of the question for you. If your on fentanyl and oxy for break through and will have (real)pain still with withdrawl pain its tuff. But you sound like you're up to it. I too was on this combo for aa year. I started on the fentanyl first as far as tapering.. not both.. have a realistic time on tapering amount. Maybe 4 to 6 months. No joke.. some people will say thats wrong and you can do it faster..
Avatar n tn how long will the it take for my body to detox cold turkey of 12.5 transdermal fentanyl patch?
374225 tn?1269899262 See if your doctor can also write you a prescription for some Requip for restlessness, Neurontin is a great help for anxiety and malaise, some Flexeril or Soma for a few weeks for muscle spasms and maybe some Seroquel low dose for sleep. Clonidine will regulates blood pressure, creepy-crawly feeling and will make withdrawals easier. Phenergan is good gor nausea. Valerian and Magnesium is sometimes helpful remedies over the counter for mild sedation, sleep and muscle relaxation.
Avatar m tn I've been taking pain meds for years off and on. At one time they were very available for me. I could take them and stop with out any issues. Then in 2010 I was injured (2 shoulder surgery's and 2 physical therapy's) and was prescribed Fentanyl and Oxy;s for pain management. For 3 years I was on a daily regiment. A 50mcg transdermal fentanyl patch and 4 -10-625 Oxycodones.
Avatar f tn If you must come off the fentany, do it slowly. It sounds like you still have significant pain. which will lead you right back to the fentanyl or some other opiate. Perhaps Norco can provide breakthrough pain relief. I would suggest that you let your body heal a bit more, and start simple exercises and stretches, but don't overdo it. I've been on morphine for eight years and fentanyl for two years after. My pain has diminished, but I;'m taking it slow to get off the meds.
