Clonidine for bipolar

Common Questions and Answers about Clonidine for bipolar

catapres

Avatar n tn He is currently taking 20mg of Mediate, 10 mg Abilify, 10 mg Prozac and .5 of clonidine in the morning. He takes a.5 clonidine at noon and at 4:00 P.M he take .5 clonidine and 10 of Ritalin. At bedtime he takes .5 of clonidine and 10 of Abilify. Most evenings he is so tired he wants to go to bed by 7:00 or 7:30. Can this be a result of all of this medication?
585414 tn?1288941302 So it turns out I'll be on Clonidine (Catapres application patch) for a long time. My psychiatrist says that I've tried all available mood stabilizers (if you know me that's indeed the case, 30 at last count) and its helping on my physical disability as well. So this patch is going to be stuck to me for a while. And so it goes..
Avatar f tn Clonidine (which I take but for a different disability) has mood stabilization properties as well (it works in this regard for myself even though it is prescribed for me to control dystonic spasms). Adderal is of course used for ADHD but it can sometimes cause agitation so if his behavior became worse since he started taking it you need to call that to their attention. If nothing is helping you should consult with a child psychiatrist who has specific understanding in this area.
Avatar f tn Neurontin, Topomax, Keppra, Trileptal, Lovaza (anti-cholesterol medication used experimentally for bipolar it works like fish oil but is an FDA approved medication) and Clonidine (which I take having exhausted all other options). Those are only the ones I've tried and am familiar with. I wouldn't reccomend one over the other but speak to your psychiatrist about any of these options (or others listed on that site which is clinically accurate).
Avatar f tn Are you currently taking any medications? What does your doctor mean by "repetitive stress"?
Avatar f tn I am on Clonidine which is used experimentally for bipolar and though it has a fair amount of side effects it does work. And there are more options as well. I post about the ones I know about. You need a concrete diagnosis as to what mood disorder you have and from there if you've tried known medications and need to try lesser known (but FDA approved for other purposes) mood stabilizers, I'd suggest your psychiatrist refer you to a mood disorders specialist.
Avatar n tn I am also frequently very very hyper, whereby I suppose I meet the diagnositec criteria for bipolar disorder.
Avatar f tn Kids at school are beginning to notice and are asking her about it. I have been given a prescription for Clonidine. Has anyone tried Clonidine? Was the Clonidine successful? What side effects were seen?
Avatar n tn He is now 13 and last year they stated he was not ADHD but bipolar. He is on different medications for bipolar now and seems to be doing better still having problems in school but he seems to be getting better. The two diagnosis are very close and there are web sites that give you the differences between the two. Also it may just be the emotions of the separation. But I would double check with the dr. They do make mistakes.
Avatar f tn Hi and welcome to the forum. I read your post and it doesn't sound like a good time to jump as it is Christmas Eve. But if you have no pills, then that's it. So, I agree with Mary above, my Dr. prescribed Clonidine for me, and it really helped with the w/d's. Plus the Thomas recipe and I swear by Epsom salt baths for the rls. I know it's hard to get in touch with any Dr. at this time of year, but try anyway. Yours might be working, and ask him what to do.
401554 tn?1270213756 For the last 5 yrs I've been taken the clonidine patch for high BP, no side effects, but the PVC's are still there off and on.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever been stable for 16 years only to have the bipolar illness come back again, then remission again for 16 years? Now I've been depressed the past 3 years. I'm on a recently increased dose of 2500 mg Depakote, 60 mg Cymbalta, 100 mg Lamictal, and 100 mg Geodon. Nothing really seems to help. I've felt sort of emotionless, unable to enjoy things like I used to. Just haven't felt like myself.
Avatar m tn I'm on week 9 of sovaldi/ribavirin for GT. My co-workers are about ready to shoot me. My doc prescribed Clonidine for insomnia and anxiety but it hasn't helped the rage. Thank you, orphanedhawk, for the tips!
Avatar f tn I am taking clonidine for my Subutex withdrawal. It has definetly helped with the anxious creepy crawly feeling. It also helped with hot flashes. I wasn't given any info on not to mix it with pain meds, but you may want to call you doctor to find out. Or even a pharmacist might be able to tell. good luck!
Avatar m tn 1mg at 10am, 4 pm since i started and trazodone 100mg at night for sleep... anyone have experience with these? ive heard clonidine if you just stop taking it it can spike your blood pressure... and trazodone is addictive? i dunno.... anyway any comments would help.. i was gonna start today by reducing the trazodone in half and tomorrow cut back to just one clonidine a day for 3 more days... sound alright?
766412 tn?1234893283 Seroquel is great for anxiety and I think Clonidine has helped that also. I have been diagnosed a manic depressive since age 17. I was a senior in high school when I flipped out. I lost a lot of friends after /during the mania that lasted several months. I felt really good and really started to talk, talking way too much. I thought anything was possible. I changed from always being the quiet guy that sat in the back of the class to going into debates with fellow students/teachers.
585414 tn?1288941302 Could detail but it would go on for pages. But after the common ones proved intolerable Keppra caused suicidal ideations. Trileptal caused an agitated mixed state. Now at this point in time having run out of options I could see a mood disorders specialist (which was suggsted in the past) but I've been through their lists of what they've used and have been on what's available.
Avatar m tn I went to see my doc and he wants me to continue taking the conidine and ativan but to reduce the clonidine to .1 for two days, then 05 for a day then stop it. He advised just to take the avtivan at night until I can fall alseep on my own. He also gave me some roxicet and told me to take 3 today, 2 tomorrow and one the next day. He claims this will help me with cravings until I get into rehab where I can get something tradition for the craving...I start rehab on Monday and it lasts 5 weeks.....
Avatar f tn My daughter is 19 now, she lives at home with me. She is bipolar and is on meds for it. Two years ago, I put her in an inpatient rehab for six weeks, but she left and did not complete the program. She did not want to be away from home. I also tried out patient with her, to no avail. She is not ready to quit using on her own. I asked her doctor about using clonidine or depakote for the withdrawl symptoms, but he said that they would not help her at all.
Avatar f tn Clonidine was initially used as an antihypertensive but it has come to be used to treat a variety of behavioral disorders including tics, symptoms of ADHD, aggression, PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder, or sleep problems. Medication of this sort can be helpful and has shown to be most effective in conjunction with systematic behavioral programming.
Avatar f tn My son currently takes vyvanse for his adhd wich seems to be helping him alot in school, but he has been taking geodon and clonidine for about 6 weeks or so and he has become alot more aggressive once he vyvanse weres off he is totally out of control phyc says leave him on it since he gets good sleep but everything i a constant fight and he tears everything up wich he did prior to the meds but he just seems worse could he be taking the wrong mix of medicines or does it just take more time worried
585414 tn?1288941302 So in mitigating the standard bipolar symptoms and some form of Parkinsonian depression and psychosis (what is in research criteria tardive psychosis for me) it is something to watch out for.
Avatar f tn Or when on lithium took that and trazadone. I also take clonidine as needed for anxiety none of those cause weight gain. What ever you do if you dont want to gain weight don't take seraquil I gained 20lbs in one month and my Dr changed that to the trazadone.
