clonidine dosage for anxiety

i was wondering if anyone heard of clonidine and can give me any info id appriciate it my dr just perscribed it for me cause i have been having anxiety ALOT and trouble sleeping and its from going CT from vics thanks god bless you

For the last 5 yrs I've been taken the clonidine patch for high BP, no side effects, but the PVC's are still there off and on.

I posted this in my long long post about opioid withdrawals but no luck so I thought I would do a new thread.... I am coming off percocet 7.5\325 2 - 5 x a day and oxy 20 mg 2 - 3 x a day for the past couple years. I have a script for clonidine .1 which isn't doing much so I called my regular doc and he is going to put me on Klonopin ( Dosage unknown until I get script tomorrow). From what I can tell these are 2 totally different drugs. Has anyone used Klonopin for opioid withdrawls?

Has this worked for anxiety for anyone?if so what was the dosage used?like how frequent i guess do you have to use to feel less stress.

Thank u! I have been thru wd before but from percs and oxys. This time its subs and I've been in them for 4 and a half yrs. I'm trying to prepare myself for what's to come. I've got myself down to 1 mg and plan to go lower but I've heard horror stories when it comes to getting off subs. The worse part of wd for me is the anxiety and chills. My heart races and I get very nervous feeling. I've heard some say clonidine helps when going through wd.

I took clonidine for withdrawal (.1mg 3x day for 2 weeks) and never experienced any major symptoms other than anxiety and occasional panic attacks. At your husband's weight I would think a large dosage (similar to mine) would be what the doctor would prescribe..It does sound questionable to me, but everybody is different.

Question for those taking Clonidine.... I'm having a hard time acquiring Clonidine, I'm in Canada and the manufacturer cannot supply my pharmacy whith what I need, I have to have the 0.025mg pills so I can combine them to take 0.050mg three times a day and 0.075mg at bed time, the last prescription they could only supply me with 0.2mg tablets, so I have to cut them into 4's to get the 0.050mg dosis, I still have some 0.

Clonidine worked great for me. Doc gave me .1mgs about 3 weeks worth. taken twice a day. No side effects for me being that I am 6'3" 225lbs. It takes alittle more for us Big Boys.

I was prescribed Atenolol for anxiety. Recently I was put on 4mg of Tizanidine once a day for back issues. I know that Tizanidine is similar to Clonidine and I have read that if you stop Atenolol while on Clonidine you could go into hypertensive crisis due to alpha antagonism. I am curious if this is also an issue with Tizanidine. I've read Tizandine is like 1/50th the potency of Clonidine but I'm not sure if there are any issues here. I am only taking 12.

I would think if my blood pressure goes down and heart rate, it would have a calming effect. I take 10mg a day of Lexapro for anxiety (have for a few years). Have had no anxiety when on Lexapro...except for now as I go through lortab withdrawals...and the anxiety is as bad as before when I had to start the Lexapro.

I just went to my Doctor today.12-5-2012 For clonidine.For withdrawal from 32 days off tramadol and after today will be my 10th day off methadone.The pain from withdrawal did't start untill the third day Methadone time table different from all other opiates. I just wanted to say that my psychiatrist just prescribed clonidine for anxiety. I am on Klonopin also. I couldn't find much info on using clonidine for anxiety, but at least now I know it's been prescribed for other people with anxiety too. I do NOT have high blood pressure.

It is really amazing my pain is completely almost gone, with the exception of a little soreness. I have starting weaning myself from the oxy and was going to ask my doc for some clonidine. How much does it really help with the w/d symptoms?

i did not use clonidine but i did use a benzo for detox/valium...course u know to be careful with the ativan..take small pieces if u can during the day to help the anxiety,...no rule u have to take the whole pill as they are not time released....clonidine will also make u sleep///sluggish possibly so play it by ear on how u feel..check ur blood pressure first as it lowers blood pressure and basically slows the metablism down...

1mg at 10am, 4 pm since i started and trazodone 100mg at night for sleep... anyone have experience with these? ive heard clonidine if you just stop taking it it can spike your blood pressure... and trazodone is addictive? i dunno.... anyway any comments would help.. i was gonna start today by reducing the trazodone in half and tomorrow cut back to just one clonidine a day for 3 more days... sound alright?

Hi Cleo. I'm in similar situation as you. I stopped hydros 5 days ago & began taking either, prescribed, clonidine .1mg, Ativan 1mg prn, or Mirapex for rls. I'm on day 5 of wd & still have some anxiety, restless legs, & insomnia, so I'm continuing to take something. It makes me nervous because I have no idea how I will ever fall asleep without taking something. I've had sleep issues long time, pain meds just helped w that some. Ughh...

hi.....i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.

1mg of Clonidine, 2 pills twice a day. It helped me with the terrible anxiety and self loathing I was going through in my brain. Also it's good for blood pressure, because I heard when you stop taking these hard core meds c/t, it elevates your blood pressure. So thank God, that helped me somewhat.... Then he put me on Flexaril which is a mild, non-narcotic muscle relaxer that took the edge off the rls and I also had my arms that were restless and having me jump out of my skin.

as it is a benzo it can be habit forming..I had like 3 10 mg valium and would take small pieces during the day for anxiety..the clonidine is not habit forming but if u stay on it for a while u do need to taper off/i was at 100 mgs of hydro for 4 yrs but didnt try the clonidine...i did ok without it and used ambien for sleep...probably not the best choice as ambien canbe abused as well but all it ever did was knock me out in 10 minutes..valerian root.

They werent prescribed to me. My father takes them for blood pressure and took some of his. i have 5 pills.

Thanks for the detailed update. I'm glad you are getting better. That's great. I hope that continues for you! And that the I've been meaning to send in an update too on Clonidine, etc. Since starting the Clonidine, my pulse has gone down to being in the 70's or 80's, which is great for me. I cannot take a higher dose b/c of low BP. My pulse still goes way up when I climb my stairs or other mild exertion.

I've never taken Oxy's before but I know they're stronger than Vics. I would think even that little amount would make you very uncomfortable. Even so, like I said in my earlier post, if you get some Clonidine from your doctor, it will likely help.....allot! I can't tell you that it will work for sure as some meds work for some and not for others, but I can say that most meds usually don't work for me, but opiates do and so does Clonidine.

Does any1 knw how long you usually have to stay on clonidine after getting off opiates? And am I still considered in detox even tho its bn twelve days?
