I think the world would disagree with you. The only people claiming it is not addictive are those prescribing it for children with ADD/ADHD. There are safer ways to treat this ailment.

i have a 5 year old boy that currently has adhd, but for the past three weeks he has become very very defeint some time to the point that he gets aggressive, could he have odd along with his adhd, right now he is on 40mgs per day of vyvanse for adhd. his doc, gave him .1mg of clonidine to help with his aggreesion. does clonidine help with odd??how long does it take to see improvements??

thanks for your reply. not really mood issues, just the constant argumentative issues with i think odd. do you think one would be better med than the other? Only other issue is weight gain. Going to the doctor today.

My son currently takes vyvanse for his adhd wich seems to be helping him alot in school,but he has been taking geodon and clonidine for about 6 weeks or so and he has become alot more aggressive once he vyvanse weres off he is totally out of control phyc says leave him on it since he gets good sleep but everything i a constant fight and he tears everything up wich he did prior to the meds but he just seems worse could he be taking the wrong mix of medicines or does it just take more time worried

My son who is 9 years old was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 6, we have tried adderall, aderral xr, medate, medadate xr and now have gone throught all MG of daytrana patch. He is also taking .2 clonidine at night to help sleep. He also has ODD, my question is what medication can we try him on now that will MAYBE help with both? We have tried the Tenex smallest dose possiblr 1/4 pill in am. And he just could not function.

m on Clonidine and Lyrica to help with the come down, and apparently Clonidine is now being treated for Neuropathic pain + ADHD symptoms; Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks, all.

Clonidine was initially used as an antihypertensive but it has come to be used to treat a variety of behavioral disorders including tics, symptoms of ADHD, aggression, PTSD, anxiety, panic disorder, or sleep problems. Interesting, the fairly standard treatment for adhd is a stimulant med. your son is on an antipsychotic and a "calming" down med which explains the going to sleep. Kind of surprised about the meds being used but I don't know his symptoms. What kind of a doctor are you seeing? My concern is that the meds he is taking tend to mask the adhd rather then treat it. Have you gotten much info on adhd? There is a lot that can also be done besides just the meds.

I am almost thinking my main doctor is using it for the ween down from the meds and in place of a ADHD med till the phych. can get me on something different. My main doctor is trying to work with my phych. but has trouble getting a hold of him. And I can not spell to save my life lol so bare with me ...

mutlivitamins and still prozac which is cut down from 10mg to 5mg to wean him off, he was on concerta 36mg for adhd, clonidine .1mg to help with sleep and prozac10mg to combat severe side effects, then after starting prozac. he was chewing on the inside of his lower lip so bad, 2 weeks later and he now has two scars..

All of them do not involve medication. Speaking of medication - non of the meds your son is taking are for ADHD. But ADHD and SIDS also have very common symptoms. Hope some of this helps. He also held off on actually giving us a diagnosis so he could be e evaluated for other conditions and disabilities without the ADHD diagnosis influencing their determination. Basically he was screened for autism because he didn't start walking or talking until 18 months. It wasn't because he couldn't tho, he simply couldn't stay focused long enough to learn they thought he had weak fine motor skills, but they caught his attention long enough to see hr could do it perfectly.

My son is ADHD and was having alot of trouble sleping at night and was prescribed clonidine. It had not affect on him and he continued to wake up and wander during the night. I discovered that this medication is a blood pressure medication and our pediatrician was not monitoring him while he was on this. We also have tried the melatonin and he was up to 3mg a night and it had no affect.

could it be possible for him to have ADHD, ODD, & BD all at the same time? I've been reading up on all of them and it seems to me that he fits the bill for all three of these disorders.

For the last 5 yrs I've been taken the clonidine patch for high BP, no side effects, but the PVC's are still there off and on.

my son takes clonidine, he has adhd and the drugs he takes to treat the adhd stop him sleeping so he takes the clonidine for that. didnt know it could be used to help with w/d's, apparently clonidine started life as a treatment for high blood pressure but now has many uses. dont know if there are w/d's from clonidine but my sons doc told us never to take him straight of it because it would cause his blood pressure to rocket.

hi.....i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.

What kind of stuff does he steal? Only from his family? From stores? From friends? Kids at school? Does the stealing happen at all times of the day? Or when his adderall has worn off?

Question for those taking Clonidine.... I'm having a hard time acquiring Clonidine, I'm in Canada and the manufacturer cannot supply my pharmacy whith what I need, I have to have the 0.025mg pills so I can combine them to take 0.050mg three times a day and 0.075mg at bed time, the last prescription they could only supply me with 0.2mg tablets, so I have to cut them into 4's to get the 0.050mg dosis, I still have some 0.

Adderal is of course used for ADHD but it can sometimes cause agitation so if his behavior became worse since he started taking it you need to call that to their attention. If nothing is helping you should consult with a child psychiatrist who has specific understanding in this area.

I am in desperate need of some insight regarding medication for Autism and ADHD. My son is 7 years old. He started out on Risperdal when he was 4 but we quickly took him off because he quickly ballooned by 15 lbs. in 1 month. You don't say why you are taking Clonidine? Because of your age, I'm going to guess that it's for attention-deficit disorder. One of the side effects of Clonidine can be a sense of shortness of breath. Vyvanse, another med for ADHD, can also cause shortness of breath. There is no medication with the name 'dextromaphane,' but there is Dextroamphetamine. Is this what you are taking? It also is used to treat ADHD.
