880900 tn?1467270141 I was taking Clonidine pills (2mgs 2xday)for w/d from smoking. I began taking it in March and it works very well for the sweats and makes you feel pretty good, but I started to wonder as time went on why I couldn't sleep, and I mean At All, and why I was a nervous wreck! My doc said I could use it "as needed" so I was using it erratically. I finally looked up the side effects and everything I listed above were side effects of Clonidine.
Avatar f tn hi.....i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.
Avatar m tn Congrats on getting clean. I used (and still do) clonidine in pill form, and it works well. The immodium will help your stomach, and the ambien may help sleep. Be very careful with it though. What kind of pain do you have? Have you tried NSAIDS and heat and ice? You will be surprised how much 800mg of ibuprofen will help once you have detoxed off the big guns! Your pain may be more tolerable also. Good luck! Congrats again on your clean time!
Avatar f tn i know what u going thru this day 3 three for me but i didnt have to use subxone bec my unsurace did coverate my doc gave me a blood preassure medication that will control ur blood preassure and clean ur system out at the same time the name brand is catapres the generic name is: clonidine HCL 0.
Avatar f tn ive tried to stop several times and get into the 2nd or 3rd day and relapse. i got some clonidine from my doctor, .1mg twice a day. long story short, today is my first day off and ive been reading some of these posts and i want to know if its safe to take my klonopin (.5mg) along with the clonidine to help with the anxiety and withdrawals...also, any other suggestions???
Avatar f tn t know if the first two are used in children but the Catapres (Clonidine) patch is and it can be very helpful. Go to a trained movement disorders specialist and ask for a test for tardive dyskinesia. Its not reversible in general but in mild cases (unlike mine) and if caught early may receed over time. For more information google "patient education tardive dyskinesia".
585414 tn?1288941302 So it turns out I'll be on Clonidine (Catapres application patch) for a long time. My psychiatrist says that I've tried all available mood stabilizers (if you know me that's indeed the case, 30 at last count) and its helping on my physical disability as well. So this patch is going to be stuck to me for a while. And so it goes..
585414 tn?1288941302 Right now I am changing from Tenex back to Clonidine because the Tenex wasn't helpful. However, because they are both blood pressure medications (the Catapres application should be familiar to some people) they can't be taken at the same time. Additionally it has to be raised slowly because the Zofran lowers blood pressure as well.
Avatar f tn The Clonidine (catapres) will help with your wd's. I've been taking it for 10 days ct after a taper. and it has taken most of the wd symptoms away. I'm also using the Thomas recipe. I was on pain meds for almost decade 8-10 norco's 10/325's I still have not so good days. But the days are getting better. The first 4 nights i took klonopin to help me sleep. Now i am not taking it And i sleep about 3-4 hours at a time. But i would lose sleep for not taking the benzo.
439522 tn?1214951189 Thank you so much. I called my Dr....my heartrate was way up and my blood pressure (went to the Rite Aid) was 145/114. The doctor prescribed me 30 lortabs and I will see him tomorrow morning to work out a taper plan and get any additional med support. Didn't you all say clonidine (catapres) or something would work good? I'm just not going to be able to do this CT. What else should I ask him for?
Avatar f tn Catapres (clonidine) - Catapres lowers blood pressure by decreasing the levels of certain chemicals in your blood. This allows your blood vessels (veins and arteries) to relax (widen)and your heart to beat more slowly and easily. Catapres is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure).
380558 tn?1309042387 You know, I keep on telling you how great you are. Pretty soon it will sink in. You go girl. Way to show'em how it's done!
Avatar n tn s things to take that are not addictive that can help with withdrawal symptoms such as clonidine (Catapres) and hydroxyzine (Vistaril, Atarax). Please, steer clear of the Ultram.
403399 tn?1201833095 oops.. I just posted on your last thread.. read it.. :D...lol.. How I got through? Clonidine- only because my vitals were terrible once i stopped (I have a little bit of heart issues and my blood pressure had risen sky high when I quit). What's crazy, is that the Clonidine (Catapres patch) took away 100% of my withdrawal symptoms.. You have to really want this for yourself in order to keep clean and go through with it..
306455 tn?1288862071 Clonidine comes under the brand names of Catapres, Catapers-TTS, Dixarit, and Duraclon. Clonidine is the name of the drug itself (generic). It is classified as a non-opiod analgesic (centrally-acting), Antihypertensive agent (centrally acting adrenergic). It can be given by mouth, by patch, or even epidural.
Avatar m tn When I stopped using opiates I was prescribed catapres for my blood pressure and anxiety. I have been on it for about a year and recently started abusing it taking 5 or 6 times my normal dose (.2mg) a about three times a day for the last 6 weeks. I was abusing it b/c at the high doses it gave me a "high". I've ran out of pills of course and my question is is catapres addictive, will I go through withdraw not having this medication.
374251 tn?1246235657 I know this is well past the discussion but inevitably someone else will find this thread desperately looking for relief. I'm glad you fixed the typo of two 1 mg pills being .1mg or someone may well have read that and decided to take the same....they would surely die! Clonidine is mainly prescribed for high blood pressure, so over do it and your bp drops to zero. Several years ago I was addicted to heroin .5-1.25g a day snorting it.
Avatar m tn DEFINITELY stay on it!! I did the Clonidine (which is the pill form of Catapres) while withdrawing and I can honestly say I never would have made it thru without it!the cravings are normal...whether you are addicted or physically dependent...it becomes a way of life, and also a habit. Habits are hard to break in a week or so...give yourself time to adjust, you'll see that the cravings are fewer and farther between! Good luck and congrats on your decision to come clean!
Avatar n tn can you take methadone and catapres together? and if you do take both catapres and methadone ,how will it affect you?
380558 tn?1309042387 I put the Catapres patch on about an hour ago and I should start feeling pretty darn groggy- yuck! I remember when I went through this before, I didn't have any symptoms, just RLS! However, I cut down to 1/2 of a pill per day before I used the Catapres and that is another reason why it wasn't that bad.. We'll see what it's like this time.. this is also the LAST..
449440 tn?1206887304 There is one more class of drugs which can help; the antihypertensive drugs. Specifically Catapres (Clonidine) is effective, and it has lesser side effects than the neuroleptics. But you have to keeps a watch on your blood pressure. Catapress causes the blood pressure to fall. The other aspect I was talking about was regarding any co-existing conditions. Quite often, obsessive thought and/or compulsive behaviors are associated with the tics. In such cases, Clomipramine is a god alternative.
380558 tn?1309042387 I started feeling jumpy, feverish and all that nasty stuff around noon today, so around 5pm I put a Catapres patch on (Clonidine) for wd's. I have 3 kids running around and they depend on ME solely and hoping I don't start getting severely drowsy as I did before. So..... Day one.. Isn't there another alternative to managing pain????
981443 tn?1250115802 i am on 50 patches i want to stop i have clonidine can i start taking clon.
Avatar n tn ing, they will help you out I have never once had someone say that the doctor said that they wouldnt help, what they will do is prescribe clonidine ( catapres) and a short amount of a benzodiazepine like lorazepam (ativan). the clonidine which is a godsend will help get rid of the hot.cold chills, flashes, goosebumps, shakes, muscle cramps,.
Avatar f tn My doc gave me Catapres - it's a BP med, not addictive. It helped me TREMENDOUSLY with the sweats and anxiety - it lowers the BP so if you've got low BP it's not for you. He also gave me Klonopin - very low, very limited dose to use ONLY if I really needed it in between the Catapres doses. I've taken like 1/2 a tab once or twice a day and that's it.
Avatar f tn What a relief. She prescribed me Clonidine and Lorazepam to help relieve some of the left over of the detox symtoms that I've been having. Has anyone ever taken these meds before. I know that Lorazepam is kinda like a valium. I'm just a bit scared of taking more meds at this time. I know this is supposed to help me, but it's a bit scary for me right now. I am going to therapy on Thursday so I know that will help with my mental state. Help anyone?
