Avatar n tn I am trying to alter his diet since I have read this online as a possible cause, but actually we feel lost and would like to help him, but do not know where to start. He is on Clonidine and has been for awhile and it has not helped with the tics, for they seem to be getting worse. Please advise on some possible solutions and please list any support groups in chicago northwest suburbs where we might find support and answers. Thank you for your time.
Avatar n tn Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with your doctor. It sounds like you have been suffering from tics. While I can not directly recommend a treatment without examining you and obtaining a history, I will try to provide you with some information.
Avatar n tn I took him to Children's in Pittsburgh and the neurologist still will not diagnose him with Tourette's because even though he's had the facial tics for 3-4 years he's only had the vocal tic for 3 weeks. Apparently the vocal and motor tics must both be present for a year. She did however give us a prescription for clonidine, so we'll see if that works or not.
Avatar f tn He took her off of the meds and stared her on a 5 day treatment of predisone and once daily puff if advair and albuterol as needed for flair ups. Approx 3 to 4 days after beganingg treatment she began to have twithchs in her arms and now it is in her legs too. Some teacher have reported it being in her face also. This all began Jan 14, 2009. She has had an EEG which is normal and has an appointment with a local neurologist. Does any of this sound fimaliar to you.
Avatar n tn I am so sorry to hear about your son! I don't have any answers about the meds. My daughter is almost 12 and has had tics since she was 4...Tourette's since 5. Getting enough sleep is the number one help in keeping her tics to a minimum. It sounds like your son is on the max of drugs that is possible at this point in time. If you can find an alternative school system for him (some days homeschool, others at school), then it may may help him be able to have less tics.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if any of any other parents out there have kids with ADHD who also exhibit tourette's-like symptoms or have been diagnosed with tourette's? My son is almost 6 and we're quite sure he has ADHD (although he's still on the waiting list for the behavioral specialist).. he's very hyperactive, fidgetty, doesn't complete a task the 1st time you ask him, and his having a lot of trouble behaviorly in school ...
Avatar n tn I have involuntary facial tics. They are unattractive mouth/lip grimacing and twich of the lips. a brain scan concluded there is no physical basis. There is no Tourette's nor other illnesses which could cause these tics. I cannot take the regular dose of clonidine due to severe sleepiness during the day when at work. My neuologist and I for now closed my file/case. However, I recently have read that botox can be an effecitve treatment for facial tics.
Avatar f tn My 7 year old daughter has facial ticks/excessive blinking and occasional humming. I am starting to wonder if the flu shot has something to do with it. This is the 3rd year in a row where 1 week after she gets the flu shot, she develops facial ticks/excessive blinking and occasional humming. It does go away after about 1-2 months. Is this coincidence (time of year) or flu shot? Has anybody else encountered such behavior after the flu shot?
1511164 tn?1301580782 So I decided to post this same question on Yahoo Answers and found out that it is most like OCD, and I do have OCD http://*****************/question/index?qid=20110213042818AAeq89e Here what I got from wiki under Tourette Syndrome: Under Characteristic I found: "Among patients whose symptoms are severe enough to warrant referral to clinics, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are often associated with Tourette's.

Avatar f tn This is escalating rapidly and his anxiety is increasing very quickly so his behaviours at school and home are a disaster. I can find info so far on each syndrome but not on how they work together. Does anyone have experience of this and if you do can you tell me what therapies or meds seem successful? Is psychotherapy necessary for TS and should that be a different therapist to the AS one?
Avatar m tn I have tourrette's and to be honest, whenever I drink, my motor tics (I blink a lot and shake my head a bit) seem to bother me the lease. Even when I just have a few beers and have a little buzz going, I hardly notice them at all. I've even done some experimenting where before I start drinking, I'll notice myself needing to twitch quite often. Then I'll have like 2 beers, I'll find myself not feeling the urge to tic at all.
Avatar n tn Have you done any research on Tourette's Syndrome? Causes involuntary movements, called tics. Teeth grinding common, as well as mouth and eye blinking, making noises, and repetitive behaviours. It is an anxiety disorder, connected to OCD...you can read about it or ask your dr. I see you have ritalin and anti-depressants, common meds in treating anxiety disorders. My family has a history of this, my husband is 57 and has been taking ritalin since 50 years old, diagnosed with adult ADD...
Avatar f tn This really hard on him his doctor has tried other medicine to try and controll it and nothing has worked. He started taking vyvanse about a month ago and it doesn't seem like it's working. He is very stressed about going back to school because the kids pick on him for this. It breaks my heart my child has to go through this. Is there a cure for ts? Is there any medication to control it?
Avatar n tn It sounds like your son has a tic disorder. My daughter started with eye blinking when she was 4 and she ended up having Tourette's Syndrome. It is not the weird cussing disease you have heard of in the movies. In fact, coprolalia (cussing) happens to a very small percentage of kids with Tourette's. There is a spectrum of tic disorders. Chronic motor tic disorder is then there are moventment (like your son's that last for a year or more, but no vocal (sound) tics).
Avatar m tn Have you tried a formal cognitive behavioral therapy program? If you can't find a sleep doctor that can do this in person, Dr. Gregg Jacobs on the Insomnia expert forum has an excellent online program called cbtforinsomnia.com. You may also want to post your question on his forum. Good luck. p.s. Being on all your anti-seizure and antidepressants can also cause or aggravate insomnia. Sudden changes can also cause problems.
449440 tn?1206887304 Hello. We need to consider two aspects to your Tourette's syndrome. First, the primary symptoms of repetitive sniffing and breathing symptoms and the additional symptoms of headaches. When the primary symptom is the predominant, medicines do help a lot. The breathing symptoms that you have are probably more problematic than the headaches. The typical and atypical neuroleptic medication helps in such conditions.
Avatar m tn My husband is nearly 46 years old. He suffers from some Tourette's type symptoms, according to his doctor. These are the notes he wrote down from a test they did. Could you translate them for us? without contrast impression: "Global cortical involutional changes that are advanced for age, with a frontoparietal predominance" Thank you.
962492 tn?1247454619 I do not know anything about your circulation problem, whatever the particulars are of that situation. But I can tell you that when you say you're having a seizure and you shout out nonsensical phrases, that sounds like Tourette's Syndrome. Keppra is a perfectly good medicine with few side effects that will help control the seizure activity aspect of Tourette's. As for any abdominal edema, usually that is accompanied by a discoloration of the skin, whereas you do not have that.
Avatar m tn I'm 17 years old, a female, and I've been having a lot of facial tics. Now, the reason why I'm asking is because as far as I know, I do not have Tourette's and maybe it's something else that I probably should know about. For the past several days I make clicking sounds with my tongue, pull my face back that stretches the neck, do this glare thing, and I just can't seem to stop. It's like, something is forcing me to, and if I don't I get really uncomfortable.
Avatar m tn s or an individual with the disorder regarding characteristics that affect the individual, interventions the person or family has tried/received and what they have liked, recommendations for educators working with children with the disorder, and recommended resources for other families and educators. I would greatly appreciate any input you could give me! Thank you so much!
Avatar f tn My son is 5 years old. Here recently we have noticed that when he eats or sometimes anytime he makes this noise with his mouth. Like a small sighing but with his mouth closed. I am unsure if it is Tourette's or not. When you ask him to stop he says ok but then he never does. No matter how many times you tell him too he says he can't after you tell him a few times. I don't know what else to think it is. Help.
Avatar n tn I've always been able to do it, but we're all different. There is a bit of a tiredness crash afterward, though.
19740770 tn?1483557078 Not too long ago I stumbled across an article that said "worrying and noticing your mouths dryness can be from anxiety." I have a medical diagnosis of anxiety disorder as well as Tourette's. I have never really realized that the "tongue dryness over awareness" might have been from my anxiety. Any insight? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Is there any connection between Parkinsons and Tourettes? I have Parkinsons and my grandson has Tourettes. Both can be treated with deep brain stimulation. They both involve dopamine. Has anyone studied the relationship?
Avatar f tn Has anyone any experience with Clonidine and Lassix in pregnancy? Do they cause miscarriages?
Avatar m tn Hello, Childhood tics are not uncommon. The majority of children simply outgrow them. There are prescription medications that can help reduce the frequency and severity of tics, but they generally come with negative side effects. Most patients with tics or Tourette's do not require medication and simply learn to cope with their tics. The vast majority of Tourette's cases are in children and adolescents, and rarely does it continue into adulthood.
Avatar m tn It could be any number of things, the most likely being post-nasal drip due to sinus infection, a cold, virus, allergies etc... Trying giving him an antihistamine and see if that helps. Or an age-appropriate child's cold medicine. The air could be dry and irritating this throat. Try having him suck on children's throat lozenges, or drink something when it happens.
