Avatar f tn My daughter is 6yrs old and has been recently diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome. She blinks, rubs her legs and bends her arms all the time. Kids at school are beginning to notice and are asking her about it. I have been given a prescription for Clonidine. Has anyone tried Clonidine? Was the Clonidine successful? What side effects were seen?
Avatar f tn Her tics will come and go with severity and changes. Her newest tics are she rapidly shakes her head back and forth and snorts. Her past tics have been shoulder shrugs, leg and arm twittching, belly twitching, etc. At one point her tics were severe and her neuro put her on clonidine. Her neuro thinks hers is transient tic syndrome. I think they are tourettes. We are currently investigating these things. I also got her a therapist to help her deal with these things.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am going to be applying to receive a medical marijuana card for treatment of my Tourette, severe anxiety disorder and PTSD. I take 25mg of Metoprolol Tartrate every morning solely for anxiety to slow my heart rate down (I tend to get anxiety episodes where tachycardia is the main symptom). I’m wondering if anyone (preferably a doctor, of course) would know if medical cannabis would interact with beta blockers, such as Metoprolol Tartrate.
1537616 tn?1292663802 Finally, by age 10 he had eye blinking (facial tic) in conjunction with throat clearing (vocal tic) and was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome. Read up on Tourette Syndrome and just keep a close watch. If someone in your family has Tourette Syndrome, then watch your grandson even more closely because it's genetic.
Avatar f tn ) I can use to help HS students to be supportive and considerate and help a classmate with Tourette Syndrome feel comfortable in class? I'm also interested in any suggestions teachers have used in their classes that may help from a teacher's perspective.

Avatar f tn This really hard on him his doctor has tried other medicine to try and controll it and nothing has worked. He started taking vyvanse about a month ago and it doesn't seem like it's working. He is very stressed about going back to school because the kids pick on him for this. It breaks my heart my child has to go through this. Is there a cure for ts? Is there any medication to control it?
Avatar f tn My 5 year old daughter started what I now know are symptoms of Tourette Syndrome at the age of 2. I want to say it started with stuttering then excessive and seemingly forced eye blinking. Because those particular "tics" stopped I contributed them to normal childhood tics however every few months some new tic would begin i.e humming sounds, smelling fingers constantly.... Now at age 5 she grunts, snorts and still makes humming sounds.
Avatar f tn Dear Farrah , especial thanks for your reply.I'v just read the previous posts about muscle twitches.it was helpful.it LOOKS LIKE tourette or it's a real tourette syndrome?.would you tell me more about tourette syndrome?are twitches indicate lesions in my spinal cord?did you experience the tics during the attack or a relaping period?( i have it for 7 months!once per 2-3 minutes)and i also hear a crackling sound during each tic...
Avatar m tn My eight year old son has no control over the sounds he makes like 20 times in a minute and throughout the day. This has been going on for over one year. The noise sounds as a brief "hum" or "huh"; and could be irritating. My son states that he does this at school and throughout the day and has no control in making it stop. His teacher called to draw our attention for a solution. What can we do to help him.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your comment. I have gone thru some of the comments in neurology forun and learned that indeed i don't have tourette syndrome. In fact, I dd also posted earlier in neurology forum. Unfortunately, I didn't get a response even until now. But I posted another query here and got a response, so I thought of this might be a friendlier forum. Any way, thanks for getting in touch. Best regards!
Avatar n tn TOURETTE syndrome is one of several neurological motor tic disorders. I would recommend That your Doctor schedule a neurology referral to be sure of the diagnosis. And yes TOURETTE`s syndrom may involve tics of the eye muscles. But you need an accurate diagnosis and futher help. Take care.
Avatar f tn The only rescources that I have been able to contact are the NH dept. of education, the Tourette Syndrome Association, and The parent Information Center. None have them have been too helpful as of yet. I've been told that I should request for her to be evaluated by the school department for special needs. I still have no clue on how to write up a 504 plan and have little knowledge as to what would best accomodate my childs needs.
Avatar f tn I had a son with Tourette. Reading your post brought back so many memories, this one in particular. My son used to smell absolutely everything before he would put it in his mouth. He also, couldn't help himself to stop. I think there's a strong possibility of Tourette. I haven't told anyone but I have a lot of experience when it comes to raising a child with Tourette's Syndrome.
Avatar f tn Has anyone any experience with Clonidine and Lassix in pregnancy? Do they cause miscarriages?
Avatar n tn Please go for MRI of the brain and spine and consult a physician and neurologist for examination, diagnosis and treatment. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!
Avatar n tn As Lulu747 I also used clonidine while tapering off opiates and just wanted off and went cold turkey over a year ago. (morphine sulfate and fentanyl patch). The clonidine did help with my w/d symptoms as well.
1187323 tn?1264440436 Hi, I have a question regarding the link between Tourette Syndrome and Bipolar. I experienced a mild case of Tourettes around 11-12 yrs. old, (blinking eyes) that lasted about a year. I have been dx w/Bipolar. I read there is research that links Tourettes as a forerunner to Bipolar. Your thoughts? Also as an adult, when I get really upset, emotional or depressed, I get tics under my eye that can last 2 wks. or longer...
Avatar n tn Just want you to know that this sounds like it could be Tourette. What do the doctor's say? Involuntary movements, like "tics", and repeating sounds, offensive language are all symptoms of Tourette. If it is, things could get much worse, so I strongly advise you to seek medical help. I would probably suggest a Child Psychiatrist who is knowledgeable about this disease. It is genetic, from my knowledge.
Avatar n tn my son takes clonidine, he has adhd and the drugs he takes to treat the adhd stop him sleeping so he takes the clonidine for that. didnt know it could be used to help with w/d's, apparently clonidine started life as a treatment for high blood pressure but now has many uses. dont know if there are w/d's from clonidine but my sons doc told us never to take him straight of it because it would cause his blood pressure to rocket.
1511164 tn?1301580782 So I decided to post this same question on Yahoo Answers and found out that it is most like OCD, and I do have OCD http://*****************/question/index?qid=20110213042818AAeq89e Here what I got from wiki under Tourette Syndrome: Under Characteristic I found: "Among patients whose symptoms are severe enough to warrant referral to clinics, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are often associated with Tourette's.
Avatar f tn Hello, yes I have been taking this combination of Vyvanse (70mg per day in the am) and Clonidine (0.2mg in the afternoon and 0.2mg at night). I highly prefer Vyvanse over adderall because I do not suffer from side effects w/Vyvanse as with the adderall. The Vyvanse is much smoother than most all other adhd drugs. I have never experienced shortness of breath while taking Vyvanse, however, I am 25 years old and 180lbs. I am also a Registered Nurse.
374251 tn?1246235657 t want to go back to same clinic and I no longer had much money for it anyway. I did research and ordered Clonidine, Atarax, and Catapres from an online pharmacy which would ship without Rx. Results weren't very positive. Clonidine didn't do much for me, Atarax helped me sleep a bit and Catapres didn't do a while lot either. I don't remember the dose I took of Clonidine but they were .15mg pills, so I prob took one twice a day.
Avatar f tn My son is ADHD and was having alot of trouble sleping at night and was prescribed clonidine. It had not affect on him and he continued to wake up and wander during the night. I discovered that this medication is a blood pressure medication and our pediatrician was not monitoring him while he was on this. We also have tried the melatonin and he was up to 3mg a night and it had no affect.
Avatar m tn Ive always liked to use clonidine when I was detoxing, it did help relax me and lessen some of jittery, nervous energy. Hopefully the clonidine helps ease some of the symptoms, I would also get some immodium, some short of short term sleeping aid and lots of fluids. The vitamins and amino acids can really help with getting some energy, but thats all up to you. I wish you the best of luck, you can do this!
