Avatar f tn As always, I recommend that parents have a close working relationship with the prescribing physician and understand exactly what the medication is, what it is intended to affect, what the side effects are, how direct and side effects will be monitored, and how decisions about dose increases and decreases will be made.
Avatar f tn She blinks, rubs her legs and bends her arms all the time. Kids at school are beginning to notice and are asking her about it. I have been given a prescription for Clonidine. Has anyone tried Clonidine? Was the Clonidine successful? What side effects were seen?
Avatar n tn Are there any other problems in addition to the ADHD and tic disorder? Does he display any voacl tics in addition to the motor tics? You'll want to rule out Tourette's Disorder. Since you are close to Chicago, it would be worthwhile to have him undergo a thorough evaluation in both neurology and child psychiatry at Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago. You will not likely find much, if any, benefit from alterations of his diet.
Avatar f tn He also has hyperness and impulsivity, and some anxiety. He performs well in school, and no teacher complaints yet. One pediatric neurologist recommended clonidine. A second did not -- he recommended neurofeedback and EEG test, which we are addressing now. I am trying to follow the second neuro opinion, and take the natural route. I ordered a vitamin mix, which concentrates on B6 and Magnesium as these deficiencies are said to contribute to motor tics.
Avatar n tn He is very good at keeping in his vocal and motor tics when in public and with his friends but now he cannot do that. His motor and vocal tics are worse than ever. He has lost his voice completely because of the loud vocal tics day and night and his whole body lifts off the ground/bed from his motor tics which occur every 4 or 5 seconds. He is exhusted and so am i as i have to hold him at night and reassure him that he will get better.
Avatar n tn Hi, My 13yr old son has mod-severe ADHD + OCD + Tourettes. In 2006 he showed a normal EKG. He has been taking Concerta ( 126 mg ), Abilify ( 6mg ), Prozac ( 40mg), Intuniv ( 4mg ), & clonidine at bedtime (.15mg). Since the last EKG he has tried diff SSRI's & SNRI's with some pos results. He is coming off the Abilify to try Haldol. His tics are very bad & last from 3pm after school until bedtime. We tried Risperdal yrs ago, but he wet the bed.
Avatar f tn he is 5years old the tics change so quickly we got a private clinic a consultant paediatric neurologist who said he had tics and a vocal tic which was sniffing she ordered more tests but said it will be with him for life and after a year it wouldbe tourettes we hope not i was thinking of finding other ways of treating him natural without meds can anyone help me because as hard as i tryi cant find anyone to talk to they are telling me there is nothing i can do but wait at least a year has anyone
Avatar f tn Okay, looked it up for you---- in children with tourettes---- tics usually decrease or go away completely during sleep. Does that answer your question or is there more to the question? By the way, not all kids with tics go on to have tourettes.
Avatar f tn it use to bother me ,but if it helps me get what I need done and in the time I need to, I do not care how others perceive me....lol..I am who I am and will do what I have to .... I am sure both issues are playing a role in this....
Avatar n tn We put him on strattera 5 weeks ago and have noticed a slight decrese in eye ticks but a new hand tick, sqeezing hands repetedly if the stratera doesnt work we need to go on a fast acting med but it will worsen ticks, he cant focus in school, and isnt completing work. Im not a believer in meds but he needs them.. I just dont know how to get rid of the ticks with out a sedative thats what the pediatrician recommended I was told theres nothing We can give him for that.

Avatar n tn Each have their side effects but they are in general safe and are often effective in suppressing tics. Some recent research has shown that behavioral therapy may be helpful to some individuals. Another class of medications useful for the treatment of tics are antipsychotics, such as haloperidol, pimozide, or fluphenazine (these are the generic names, trade names will vary by country) (they are used to treat psychosis such as occurs with schizophrenia but are also used to treat tics).
Avatar n tn s on seroquel to help his adhd and his tics have recently gotten really bad! My sister-in-law was telling me about this pandas syndrome & seems to think this sounds more like him than autism. I'm really interested in founding out more!!
Avatar n tn My daughter's been experiencing these weird tics in various parts of her body lately. I beleive it to be an emotional disorder or because she has poor eating and sleeping habits, it sometimes happens more frequently when nervous, depressed, scared, tired. When she was younger around 8-10 (she's 15 now) she'd get really nervous about kids in school and start to blink constantly.
Avatar n tn this time my head just kept jerking away from her.she walked in the room too talk to me and my shoulders started twitching.i hate it so much and have no idea how to fix this.most of my spasm/twitches are in my stomach/neck/mouth.i really dont know what too do anymore.do you think its mostly from stress or can it be from something else?iam not sure if its tourettes cause i dont have the random outbursts like you would think from someone with that.please help.
Avatar n tn I have involuntary facial tics. They are unattractive mouth/lip grimacing and twich of the lips. a brain scan concluded there is no physical basis. There is no Tourette's nor other illnesses which could cause these tics. I cannot take the regular dose of clonidine due to severe sleepiness during the day when at work. My neuologist and I for now closed my file/case. However, I recently have read that botox can be an effecitve treatment for facial tics.
Avatar f tn I am on pretty strong levels of Clonidine (0.2mg BID) and Celexa (40-mg BID) so I am fearful of how the tics will be when we start weining. Any ideas, suggestions, articles, etc...are greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn Her tics will come and go with severity and changes. Her newest tics are she rapidly shakes her head back and forth and snorts. Her past tics have been shoulder shrugs, leg and arm twittching, belly twitching, etc. At one point her tics were severe and her neuro put her on clonidine. Her neuro thinks hers is transient tic syndrome. I think they are tourettes. We are currently investigating these things. I also got her a therapist to help her deal with these things.
449440 tn?1206887304 is there a medication i can take for my tourettes i sniff well its really a squinch of my nose and i breath really fast and hard out my nose at the same time and it gives me really bad head aches all the time i "sniff" atleast 100 to 200 times an hour some times less sometimes more my doc said that the med could give me more severe tics but i cant deal with it any more its driving me nuts can you help me there has to be something
Avatar n tn add/adhd is not simply being a kid, it interupts their ability to concentrate in school, why shouldn't these kids have every opportunity to succeed in school, to become productive members of society, and most kids start taking the meds around age 5 yrs, because it is needed not because one likes to put kids on meds...
Avatar n tn It is almost as if he is having sinus drainage by the way that he stretches his mouth and nose downward. In the last 4 days he has started bobbing his head back and forth in a downward motion as well as the facial tics. Can this be caused by an allergic reaction to a different type of laundry detergent, or is an allergic reaction clearly out of the question for something like this?
Avatar n tn There is not a magic pill to cure it...in fact, there is no cure. But, most kids get better on their own in time. If the symptoms become very disruptive, antidepressants and/or seizure medicines have helped some. But, I am not a fan of medicines for TS unless it is very severe. It doesn't sound like your son is in that category. You should read some info on the Tourette's Syndrome Association website.
Avatar f tn It is not typical for kids to express tics this early. Most kids are diagnosed between 3rd and 4th grade, but they would have to have both vocal tics and motor tics for at least one year prior. My kids are now 14 yrs, 10 yrs, 7yrs, and 19 months old. All three older girls have been diagnosed. My third daughter was diagnosed at 3 1/2 yrs old, my oldest at 8 yrs old, and my middle daughter at 9 yrs old. My son has not been diagnosed yet.
Avatar n tn I also have tics that manifest in my eyes, such as blinking and rolling. I am taking risperdal, my daughter takes another type of medication. However as with all medication, it has its side effects. I don't know how Tourette begins. Many of my fathers side of the family have it. My daughter and I both have it. I feel for children who have to deal with this.
Avatar n tn It started as just facial tics (his eyes blinking rapidly) and has advanced to muscle ticks in his arms and legs and his entire head (his head jerks around and he stomps his legs and his arms make the "drumming" movement), but he still also has the facial ticks. They are usually the worst at night when his meds are wearing off and in the morning before his meds kick in. It is really starting to worry me since the tics have gotten worse. Is this normal and if so, will it ever stop?
Avatar f tn 5 years he has been involved with pot (it helps his tics) and then moved on to meth. He said he was very focused on the meth and it did not bother his tics. I am completely puzzeled how adderall could have bothered his tics and on meth did not????? He said he is sure his tics were not worse on Meth, he was around people while on the meth and they would have told him??
Avatar f tn Right, it's likely not just something he's doing for fun. My son has vocal tics. It's really hard on kids who have this as they get older and are in school or around friends. Sometimes reducing anxiety can help. Some kids also do it to keep themselves focused as part of a nervous system issue. But it's an impulse meaning that it is involuntary. My son has it more when nervous or worried or excited.
