clonidine and stroke

i had a stroke 7 years ago and my leg was getting really numb again and i thought i was having another stroke. i told the dr. about my hydro addiction and he said that the symptoms i am having are from the w/d's. he gave me some clonidine(i think thats how its spelled) to get me off the tabs and its suppose to help with the w/d. anyone with any experience with this pill?

Will clonidine help me with withdrawal ? I have had 5 operations on my hip and have been prescribed oxycontin and hydromorphine for over a year. I tried getting off them but can't do it as the symtoms are terrible..Will clonidine help me? My medical dr has prescribed them to me and I havent tried them yet as I need some input on them.

I just spoke with Steven and there is someone he works with sending clonidine home for us. I realize we should be under a dr.'s care but we aren't. 1. Can we both take it? 2. 1 per night, correct? Could we 1/2 one tonight, would that help? 3. Is there a reason we should not use this?

Be careful not to think more is better because you will just drop your blood pressure and end up in the ER or worse. Clonidine is a blood pressure medication but is known to ease WD in very small dosages. Ok if prescribed by your doctor. I like patch better because you will not try to take more to make you feel better, Good luck..

Hi Dave ! That sounds like a good combo. The Amitriptyline takes a few days to kick in. It works a bit differently than the SSRI's and will cause drowsiness and lethargy. I took it a long time ago for chronic pain and only noticed the sleepiness. I didn't stay on it very long because of that...but I've known many people who have had good results from taking it. V.

I can give you my experiance with this I was started out on 0.1mg three times a day and 0.2mg for night for three days than tappering 0.

m on 120m Diltiazem 3x, .1 Clonidine 2x and .2 Clonidine at bedtime. BP is still high. More Clonidine (i.5-2) during the day will drop it to120/80 or below, but it drops my heartbeat to 40-50 an dI'll fall asleep. My heartrate otherwise is 56-62. I'm at the point where I really don't care much anymore. If I check my BP it just makes my BP go higher because I feel it's futile. Got a suggestion?

s BP too low causing a stroke..That was a very direct and stern warning. It is not a sleeping pill nor is it a drug to take for granted. Only use as directed and only under a doctors approval. Don't mess around..

I take 40 mg. of Lisinopril twice per day; Diovan 320mg - twice per day and Clonidine HCL 0.2 mg at bedtime. My Nephrologist wants me to take the Clonidine in the mornings also, but I cannot function - I am too dizzy and weak. I have had a stent placed in the artery leading to my left kidney and my pressure has gotten higher.

whoa. How do you know your bp is that high? Take it again and if it is, go to the hospital. the top number of 189 is WAY too high. If you were 130 to 140, okay. But above that, one is going to get concerned. We don't want you to stroke out. Your bottom number is oddly low though. Something looks off. Home BP monitors can be great but somethings hard to get accurate results. Take your bp again and go to the ER or urgent care if still so high.

I was taking the clonidine for a short spell too. I've had an issue with a ringing type symptom in my ears but it was here before taking any clonidine. I "think" this ringing is a side effect of long term use of hydrocodone and oxycodone based meds..For 4 years now I've questioned my doctors about this yet have never really figured out a cause. All I can say is I never had this ring problem prior to my back surgery in 2005.

As Lulu747 I also used clonidine while tapering off opiates and just wanted off and went cold turkey over a year ago. (morphine sulfate and fentanyl patch). The clonidine did help with my w/d symptoms as well.

my son takes clonidine, he has adhd and the drugs he takes to treat the adhd stop him sleeping so he takes the clonidine for that. didnt know it could be used to help with w/d's, apparently clonidine started life as a treatment for high blood pressure but now has many uses. dont know if there are w/d's from clonidine but my sons doc told us never to take him straight of it because it would cause his blood pressure to rocket.

It just going to keep going back to you get something that works. I am on A clonidine patch and take a hundre and take a hundred milligrams of metatoprol Anna point one clonidine to go with my patch. Its working for now but I sometimes get spikes.

Your situation is a real danger for stroke, with your age and high systolic and especially the big number of what's called Pulse Pressure (the difference between your systolic and diastolic). Maybe your medication is wearing off during the night. What time do you take it? Maybe you need to take it later in the day, or need more of it, or a new kind. Have you been gaining weight recently? What types of BP medicine do you take and at what times?

Hello, yes I have been taking this combination of Vyvanse (70mg per day in the am) and Clonidine (0.2mg in the afternoon and 0.2mg at night). I highly prefer Vyvanse over adderall because I do not suffer from side effects w/Vyvanse as with the adderall. The Vyvanse is much smoother than most all other adhd drugs. I have never experienced shortness of breath while taking Vyvanse, however, I am 25 years old and 180lbs. I am also a Registered Nurse.

t want to go back to same clinic and I no longer had much money for it anyway. I did research and ordered Clonidine, Atarax, and Catapres from an online pharmacy which would ship without Rx. Results weren't very positive. Clonidine didn't do much for me, Atarax helped me sleep a bit and Catapres didn't do a while lot either. I don't remember the dose I took of Clonidine but they were .15mg pills, so I prob took one twice a day.

My son is ADHD and was having alot of trouble sleping at night and was prescribed clonidine. It had not affect on him and he continued to wake up and wander during the night. I discovered that this medication is a blood pressure medication and our pediatrician was not monitoring him while he was on this. We also have tried the melatonin and he was up to 3mg a night and it had no affect.

Ive always liked to use clonidine when I was detoxing, it did help relax me and lessen some of jittery,nervous energy. Hopefully the clonidine helps ease some of the symptoms, I would also get some immodium, some short of short term sleeping aid and lots of fluids. I'm female, 59 yrs old, and in pretty good health, except for the blood pressure thing - or so I thought. I've lived with many medical issues, but they were mostly minor to moderate in severity, and so I didn't seek out much help.

t have good health insurance and a standard physician prescribes their psychiatric medications which is not advisable. I am assuming you are seeing a psychiatrist and as for Clonidine and Effexor interacting I have not heard of that one but you should ask them to look it up. They all have a PDR and more importantly I know my psychopharmocologist has a palm pilot where he can look up any medications and see how they interact and has access to information that only a physician would.

I ran out two weeks early. I was honest with my dr and he put me on clonidine 3 pills a day for 3 days and a patch. It worked I almost feel like my old self. When he refills my meds next week I'm going to not take them unless I am in extreme pain. Learned my lesson!

I am already starting to get withdrawal symptoms which surprises me as this is not really a small dose. I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. I was wondering if I should start taking it, I am so uncomfortable. I know this is a slow and low taper, is it worth getting it?

WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.
