clonidine and smoking

I too would recommend trying the Clonidine. As others have said, it is an anti-hypertensive medication that does help to relieve w/d symptoms quite successfully. It will not take them away completely, but it will minimize some of the symptoms, by reducing the sympathetic nervous system response, such as tachycardia and high BP. It's not a habit-forming drug, and really, the biggest consideration is some hypotension (low BP).

About 4 months ago I quit smoking and moved into a new house all at once, since then I have been expierencing PVC's. I am 24 and have been the ER twice where the hooked me up to the EKG and it showed everything was fine. They also held me there for about 1 hr on a monitor which also showed everything was fine! After that I went to a cardiogolist who listened to my heart and looked over my ekg's and holter monitor and felt there is nothing to be worried about!

WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.

Great advice! The doctor and I discussed this too. IF for some reason the clonidine doesn't do what it is supposed to do then I will hold off on quitting for a couple more months. I don't need the additional stress right now and Dr. was adamant about that....don't do it if the clonidine doesn't work. Today I've only had 1 cig. With luck I can get down to 2 or 3 a day anyway...I'm so close to that now :-) Thanks!

I can get my doc(i think) to write me a script of it ,I have high blood pressure so its used for that and also suppose to help you quit smoking...And if i start the clonidine should i also do the thomas recipe with it...I gueess i want to make sure I am not taking to much stuff...Can vitiamins hurt you,,? I went out last night bought everything looks like a GNC in my house lol...

i suffered with RLS from a very young age and tried everything possible to stop it, but i can promise you now the only thing that works is smoking weed. i started smoking weed at 16 and straight away RLS stopped, i am now 45 and recently stopped smoking weed and the RLS came straight back, but from 16 to the first day i gave up weed i never suffered a single night, THIS IS NOT A JOKE, i know how bad RLS is.

I used to use drugs(mainly heroin) 2 years ago but have been on the suboxone treatment since and it has been a miracle for me and my life had come back once I started the treatment. I take 8mg buprenorphine( 2X a day) and .1mg clonidine( 2X a day). Recently my doctor put me on clonidine for anxiety and high blood pressure( constantly 140/100 being calm.

When I tried to stop the clonidine my pain returned. I tried to just take the clonidine and that didn’t work. Now with the low dose of oxy and clonidine I have relief from the severe pain and can live a more normal life.

I use to love to drink and smoke? If a friend would call me to ask me to go out I would go. Now I don't ever go. Does a beta blocker in anyway help you to stop drinking or smoking because you think those two things would be hard to do? I found it a piece of cake!

I have talked to my Dr about the withdrawal symptoms and, I am not kidding, he literally just told me to find someone who smokes weed and to start smoking weed to help with the withdrawal and anxiety. First of all, I don't smoke weed, I have asthma (which the Dr knows), and even if I did, I sure don't have the money for that.

Iam on Avinza 60 mg QD and 6 - 15 mg Oxy tabs QD, and in 3 days with the help of the Clonidine, I am down to just the Avinza and 1 oxy a day, when I tried to taper the oxy below 4-5/day I would feel the W/D but this Clonidine is a merical for me, I have to go back to work tomorrow after the 3 day holiday, I was scared I would not be able to function at work but today I feel great since using the Clonidine, I did't think anything would take theW/D out that fast.

Didnt think about the smoking thing and i do the nicotine lozenges....they never asked...but i am also on depo preovera which is a big hormone gush every 3 months and need to get off of it as i have no idea whether i still have periods or not since it stops ur cycle...i have not had one in 15 years cept once when i got off a few years ago and i thought i was gonna pull my hair out...i thought "screw feeling like this" as memories of severe pms resurfaced...

Hey man congrats. I may not know who you are but I know what a long and painful struggle coming off heavy opiates after a long period of time is like. September of '11 through early January '12 I was taking 200 mg morphine, smoking 160 mg of Oxy, and eating 30-40 mg of methadone daily. Definitely my heaviest period of using. I'm on a small dose of Buprenorphine now, 2-4 mg a day. Started out taking 32 mg/day mid-late January.

Has anyone any experience with Clonidine and Lassix in pregnancy? Do they cause miscarriages?

Pills lead to snorting, and snorting leads to smoking, and smoking to injecting. Doses get higher, and ways to find money that once seemed daring start to become routine.

As Lulu747 I also used clonidine while tapering off opiates and just wanted off and went cold turkey over a year ago. (morphine sulfate and fentanyl patch). The clonidine did help with my w/d symptoms as well.

i am on 50 patches i want to stop i have clonidine can i start taking clon.

my son takes clonidine, he has adhd and the drugs he takes to treat the adhd stop him sleeping so he takes the clonidine for that. didnt know it could be used to help with w/d's, apparently clonidine started life as a treatment for high blood pressure but now has many uses. dont know if there are w/d's from clonidine but my sons doc told us never to take him straight of it because it would cause his blood pressure to rocket.

well i know what i say won't be much help...but i've given up many different addictions.......smoking...pills....lots of different stuff......and one thing that helps me when i quick something..lets say when i quit smoking.....well, i smoked for 10+ years and so the urge was terrible...it's all i could think about for months.......terrible.....

Hello, yes I have been taking this combination of Vyvanse (70mg per day in the am) and Clonidine (0.2mg in the afternoon and 0.2mg at night). I highly prefer Vyvanse over adderall because I do not suffer from side effects w/Vyvanse as with the adderall. The Vyvanse is much smoother than most all other adhd drugs. I have never experienced shortness of breath while taking Vyvanse, however, I am 25 years old and 180lbs. I am also a Registered Nurse.

t want to go back to same clinic and I no longer had much money for it anyway. I did research and ordered Clonidine, Atarax, and Catapres from an online pharmacy which would ship without Rx. Results weren't very positive. Clonidine didn't do much for me, Atarax helped me sleep a bit and Catapres didn't do a while lot either. I don't remember the dose I took of Clonidine but they were .15mg pills, so I prob took one twice a day.

My son is ADHD and was having alot of trouble sleping at night and was prescribed clonidine. It had not affect on him and he continued to wake up and wander during the night. I discovered that this medication is a blood pressure medication and our pediatrician was not monitoring him while he was on this. We also have tried the melatonin and he was up to 3mg a night and it had no affect.

Ive always liked to use clonidine when I was detoxing, it did help relax me and lessen some of jittery,nervous energy. Hopefully the clonidine helps ease some of the symptoms, I would also get some immodium, some short of short term sleeping aid and lots of fluids. The vitamins and amino acids can really help with getting some energy, but thats all up to you. I wish you the best of luck, you can do this!

I took my last 5mg pill Tuesday night to deal with the onsetting depression and try and sleep. I am just wondering if the stomach pains and high blood pressure are normal? Most of the stories I have read come from much heavier users than myself so I'm not sure what to think. Also I have been smoking weed for 5 years and since quiting oxy haven't been smoking as much, so I'm wondering if I could be experiencing withdrawal from that as well?

Well I made it to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!And I have been feeling better today. I have clonidine to help. It helps with the leg pains and back pains. And I do not abuse it. I take half of what the doctor gave me to take. Plus it is not addictting. And after I get better and better I will not take it anymore. I think three weeks should be enough. Since my post this morning my skin has felt better. It does get worse when trying to sleep.

You might ask your doctor for Clonidine also. I got awful hot flashes when I quit smoking and this med worked/works wonders and will also help you sleep if that's an issue when you quit. It's just a blood pressure med used off label for opiate w/d, smoking cessation and menopausal hot flashes. I'm still taking it do deal with menopause. See you in a few weeks or so!

t have good health insurance and a standard physician prescribes their psychiatric medications which is not advisable. I am assuming you are seeing a psychiatrist and as for Clonidine and Effexor interacting I have not heard of that one but you should ask them to look it up. They all have a PDR and more importantly I know my psychopharmocologist has a palm pilot where he can look up any medications and see how they interact and has access to information that only a physician would.

I ran out two weeks early. I was honest with my dr and he put me on clonidine 3 pills a day for 3 days and a patch. It worked I almost feel like my old self. When he refills my meds next week I'm going to not take them unless I am in extreme pain. Learned my lesson!
