clonidine and sleep

He cannot sleep, the doctor suggested putting him on clonidine to help. Has anyone had any experience with taking clonidine as a sleep aid while on vyvanse? Also, my son is extremely short of breath when doing any physical activity. He takes 50 mg of Vyvanse daily and was wondering if anyone has experienced this side effect with Vyvanse. Thank you.

I would suggest to get off the colonidine now. You may have to lose a few hours sleep until your body adjusts to going to sleep on its own. But clonodine can be addicting too.

Thus the reason for the foggy head/headache during the acute phase. The clonidine helped immensely and even helps with sleep.

yes it does help but it will knock you on your ***, dry mouth, go to the vitamin store and get L-tyrosine, and get SAM-e, also get melatonin for sleep, either get a potassium supplement for the leg stuff or eat alot of bananas, hope this helps

Hi Dave ! That sounds like a good combo. The Amitriptyline takes a few days to kick in. It works a bit differently than the SSRI's and will cause drowsiness and lethargy. I took it a long time ago for chronic pain and only noticed the sleepiness. I didn't stay on it very long because of that...but I've known many people who have had good results from taking it. V.

For me, the clonodine made me really tired. I could only take it at nighe or when i was going to sleep. It will make you weak and tired, but it will help with chills and anxiety....its a good help to w.d.....

I'm with bmdad on being a little confused as to the dosing that you have. I too was prescribed the .01's with instructions that I may take "up to three" but only in one daily dose which was at bedtime..Then my doctor specifically warned me that this drug is not to be abused as it does lower one's blood pressure..The implication of taking more than prescribed could be the possibilty of setting yourself up for a stroke due to blood pressure getting too low..

I took clonodine for 5 days and then took half of one for 3 days. Trazadone I took for 2 weeks and stopped CT with no issue although you could ween yourself off just to be safe. Taking half dose for a few days. Sorry no one answered u sooner.

Ive been on clonidine for almost a year and they do relax you a bit and but not sure about using just to sleep. You would have to just take them at night, because I know with atleast me when I take them as presicribed about every 5-6 hrs I dont get drowsy hardly at all. Another sleep aid I used and I dont know how common this is, but I was prescribed Remeron(Mirtazipine) took 30mg along with the melatonin and it worked well.

I have been tapering off opiates and I have clonidine and use it to sleep during the taper. I'm pretty sure opiates lower your blood pressure and so does clonidine, so can you take too much if you are combining them?

I'm glad you fixed the typo of two 1 mg pills being .1mg or someone may well have read that and decided to take the same....they would surely die! Clonidine is mainly prescribed for high blood pressure, so over do it and your bp drops to zero. Several years ago I was addicted to heroin .5-1.25g a day snorting it.

My doctor tried all the drugs you see on TV and in the end I am taking 10mg oxy 3 times a day and .1mg of clonidine 4 times a day. I have tried going a day only taking one of the drugs but only get relief by taking both. While still being on oxy is not the best I did reduce my intake. I was on 30mg oxy 4 to 5 times a day at my highest dose.

Hi, i read your advice on taking clonidine for withdrawals. I have 1 mg. clonidine and am going thru withdrawals. How many should i take thru the day and night? I do not have low blood pressure. Also, i am on morphine 30 mg. and hydrocodone 10mg. I take 3x's a day.

Thank u! I have been thru wd before but from percs and oxys. This time its subs and I've been in them for 4 and a half yrs. I'm trying to prepare myself for what's to come. I've got myself down to 1 mg and plan to go lower but I've heard horror stories when it comes to getting off subs. The worse part of wd for me is the anxiety and chills. My heart races and I get very nervous feeling. I've heard some say clonidine helps when going through wd.

Hi - I have taken Clonidine for opiate withdrawal and have taken it on and off for depression. It is a blood pressure medication. It has helped alot with opiate withdrawal. What drug did you used to take? I don't know if Clonidine is a huge help for anxiety. Usually Klonipin is prescribed but that can be addictive. Also .1 milligram is low. I take .3 mg but only at night. I break it in half if I take during the day. It can make you sleepy. Hope that helps.

on my 3rd day ct from oxy's i did clonidine....phew....some relief..no sleep but chilled the leg cramps a bit......helped alot....stopped the serious day 4 shakes did it for 2 days and it was great....hang here ,,these ppl are smart.experienced and supportive...oh day 13 no oxy's feelin good....

The doctor was trying all kinds of sleeping pills and most gave me rls. I told her that I was taking the clonodine to sleep and she said it was fine. You will probably be uncomfortable for a week on the low dose of sub you are on, but the clonodine will help you sleep and take away any rls. On such a low dose of sub you are probably having some withdrawals, but if you can get through a week or so you should start to feel better. Are you craving at all ?
