Avatar n tn Hello, A breif history - My brother was stabbed in the heart and went into cardiac arrest for an hour, The doctors and surgeons done a fantastic job in saving him. He was put under sedation for 2 weeks, they have now taken off the sedation but it appears that he is dependant on clonidine. So they gave him 4 mg an hour again after an episode of great frustration for him and a heart rate of 201 beats a min.
Avatar n tn just dont drink any alcohol with it it takes away the strenght of the clonidine no more than 900 mcg daily for detox of opiates and methadome and for the alcohol and the benzos. hope this helps feel free to ask! if you dont ask you dont find out right!
589824 tn?1238796813 Its very different for me with clonidine, it keeps my blood pressure in check and at this point I get no sort of euphoria or sedation from it what so ever, thats not to say in the beginning it did have a mild sedative feeling to it if I took more than my dose, but I dont believe he should be getting sick from not taking it.
Avatar f tn I have restless arms instead of legs and it drives me crazy! Other symptoms are being handled by imodium and clonidine. I have had no pills since the 2 I took at about 3 pm on Saturday, so what day is this???
Avatar f tn You can try asking a physician to prescribe you some Requip for restless legs, Clonidine for blood pressure and general anxiety control and maybe get some over the counter Valerian for sleep and sedation. The residual symptoms of insomnia and depression can last another few months. Thus, it is not easy, but it gets better and better over time and you can look forward to a drug free healthy energetic you in the future. Take a look at my blogs about options for detox and recovery.
Avatar f tn Clonidine is a medication that is generally used to ease the symptoms of opioid withdrawal. To be honest, though, clonidine is only slightly helpful, and comes with its own side effects like sedation, dry mouth, fatigue, and dizziness. Opioid withdrawal can be very severe in people taking high-potency opioids like heroin, fentanyl, or oxycodone-- so severe that people generally cannot even walk during the first week, and the legs are kicking uncontrollably.
Avatar m tn I have a friend who years ago had several colonoscopies without sedation, and while they got thru it, it was unpleasant and something they do not wish to repeat. The exact opposite of those who get unpleasant side effects from Versed! So, I suppose they can cut off your arm without sedation, but you should at least get good and drunk before you go in! Ha! Just kidding.
1401949 tn?1296043724 You might ask your doctor for Clonidine also. I got awful hot flashes when I quit smoking and this med worked/works wonders and will also help you sleep if that's an issue when you quit. It's just a blood pressure med used off label for opiate w/d, smoking cessation and menopausal hot flashes. I'm still taking it do deal with menopause. See you in a few weeks or so!
4580773 tn?1356767119 He can try asking a physician to prescribe him some Requip for restless legs, Neurontin for overall distress, Clonidine for blood pressure and general anxiety control and maybe get some over the counter Valerian for sleep and sedation and chelated magnesium for muscle relaxation. But he must be completely committed to the goal of quitting. I have written a blog that has rather detailed information about options for detox.
Avatar f tn What they gave him in the hospital is a good start, but you really need to try asking a physician to prescribe him some Requip for restless legs, Neurontin for overall distress, Clonidine for blood pressure and general anxiety control and maybe get some over the counter Valerian for sleep and sedation. I also like chelated magnesium for muscle relaxation. But, seriously, he must be completely committed to the goal of quitting.
Avatar m tn If you need to have this procedure again, I would highly recommend against general anesthesia (totally asleep). This has a ton more risks then sedation and the entire procedure becomes more complicated. And when you wake up, your sore throat will be much worse because you will have the endoscope as well as a breathing tube down your throat. If you need this procedure again, I would recommend 2 things.
Avatar f tn Many people have problems with twilight sedation, and the drug Versed has come up a lot as being the culprit. Therefore, you should ask the doctor to skip the Versed and instead use extra of the opiate type drug. You can find stuff online about Versed and print it out, in case you have to convince the doc of this. You should not have any problem whatsoever with opiates, they will make you feel wonderful, and there are no scary side effects.
Avatar n tn They were Able to rule out that he is not having seizures (although some of the nurses think he sometimes does) and said that they are myoclonic jerks. He is able to be on a low sedation now and he’ll be fine but as soon as they come off the sedation he begins to jerk again so they have to raise it up high to control it then they can come back down. Today is the 14th day in the icu. The neurologist comes every morning and he has since made progress with responding to pain.
Avatar f tn Has anyone any experience with Clonidine and Lassix in pregnancy? Do they cause miscarriages?
Avatar n tn As Lulu747 I also used clonidine while tapering off opiates and just wanted off and went cold turkey over a year ago. (morphine sulfate and fentanyl patch). The clonidine did help with my w/d symptoms as well.
Avatar m tn 28 y/o - Male -- So, I have always had anxiety. Got a prescription for xanex about 8-9 years ago. But I ended up only using it when I actually felt I needed it, as opposed to the .25 and .5, 3x daily (I think that's what it was). I had a couple refills and since I wasn't taking it that much.
Avatar n tn my son takes clonidine, he has adhd and the drugs he takes to treat the adhd stop him sleeping so he takes the clonidine for that. didnt know it could be used to help with w/d's, apparently clonidine started life as a treatment for high blood pressure but now has many uses. dont know if there are w/d's from clonidine but my sons doc told us never to take him straight of it because it would cause his blood pressure to rocket.
Avatar n tn It would be a good idea to let the doctor and attending nurses know of your concern so they can be alert for any possible problems. And have a family member sit with you as long as you are still under the effects of the sedation. Your title says you have sleep apnea - some take their cpap machine to the hospital but usually it is not needed. You'll only be under a short period of time, and even then it's not totally under. As long as everyone knows, you should be fine.
Avatar f tn Hello, yes I have been taking this combination of Vyvanse (70mg per day in the am) and Clonidine (0.2mg in the afternoon and 0.2mg at night). I highly prefer Vyvanse over adderall because I do not suffer from side effects w/Vyvanse as with the adderall. The Vyvanse is much smoother than most all other adhd drugs. I have never experienced shortness of breath while taking Vyvanse, however, I am 25 years old and 180lbs. I am also a Registered Nurse.
374251 tn?1246235657 t want to go back to same clinic and I no longer had much money for it anyway. I did research and ordered Clonidine, Atarax, and Catapres from an online pharmacy which would ship without Rx. Results weren't very positive. Clonidine didn't do much for me, Atarax helped me sleep a bit and Catapres didn't do a while lot either. I don't remember the dose I took of Clonidine but they were .15mg pills, so I prob took one twice a day.
Avatar f tn My son is ADHD and was having alot of trouble sleping at night and was prescribed clonidine. It had not affect on him and he continued to wake up and wander during the night. I discovered that this medication is a blood pressure medication and our pediatrician was not monitoring him while he was on this. We also have tried the melatonin and he was up to 3mg a night and it had no affect.
Avatar m tn Ive always liked to use clonidine when I was detoxing, it did help relax me and lessen some of jittery, nervous energy. Hopefully the clonidine helps ease some of the symptoms, I would also get some immodium, some short of short term sleeping aid and lots of fluids. The vitamins and amino acids can really help with getting some energy, but thats all up to you. I wish you the best of luck, you can do this!
656243 tn?1231288052 t have good health insurance and a standard physician prescribes their psychiatric medications which is not advisable. I am assuming you are seeing a psychiatrist and as for Clonidine and Effexor interacting I have not heard of that one but you should ask them to look it up. They all have a PDR and more importantly I know my psychopharmocologist has a palm pilot where he can look up any medications and see how they interact and has access to information that only a physician would.
Avatar m tn I ran out two weeks early. I was honest with my dr and he put me on clonidine 3 pills a day for 3 days and a patch. It worked I almost feel like my old self. When he refills my meds next week I'm going to not take them unless I am in extreme pain. Learned my lesson!
