880900 tn?1467270141 WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn are you taking it while you detox? did a doctor prescribe the clonidine?
1124967 tn?1283705847 Using too much can drop a persons blood pressure super low and cause fainting. Stopping clonidine can cause rebound hypertension- making the BP spike to super high levels. IT can be a great med, but please have your friend follow the docs orders. Wish I had a better answer for you.
198154 tn?1337787265 I know this is sort of an old post, but I see some new activity and it's a common topic for opiate withdrawals so I wanted to add one thing. Somebody mentioned fainting or blacking out or something. Basically since this medication is lowering your blood pressure, it can cause orthostatic hypotension - if you stand up too quickly, you don't get enough blood to your head and you can get dizzy or even pass out.
Avatar n tn Clonidine can cause some rebound hypertension but I doubt it's deadly unless there's heart problems already. But, that's why we always say to do this under a doctor's care. From your post, it seems like your husband is a classic addict. 300mg's a day is a pretty heavy habit as well. You should really consider getting him either into an outpatient or inpatient rehab facility. It's pretty clear that after his years of trying that the same old way isn't working.
Avatar f tn Discontinuing Clonidine can cause a rebound hypertension. Be sure your doc is aware you were on it, and how much you were taking.
Avatar n tn I am 6'1", 195 lb, 35 yrs. I take clonidine and lisinopril for high blood pressure. I take no other medications. I do not use drugs. I do not smoke. I do drink but not very much. I have taken up aerobic exercise, but I have had to discontinue it. Just a brisk walk for half an hour and my diastolic bp goes from 80 to 115. I get headaces. My eyes hurt. The level it reaches during exercise I don't want to think about.
589824 tn?1238796813 I take clonidine .2 three times a day and have been for over a year for blood pressure and intially to help with withdrawls as I tapered my dose of methadone down from 100-120mgs a day to 30mg. I still have to take it do to my hypertension, so first thing I would check is his blood pressure, just to make sure that it isnt high. After about 1month of taking clonidine there is hardly any sedating feeling as long as you take it as prescribed, but it can be abused just like any medication.
Avatar n tn plus am so intolerant of meds. And with those swings in bp, this is not normal hypertension. Anyone have success? docs are useless and I'm doctored out!!
439522 tn?1214951189 Hi, all. Last pills were Friday night at 5pm. I keep reminding myself that I am doing this for my family...especially my youngest boy, and myself. Today is better than first two days, for sure...but still pretty crappy. My doctor gave me clonidine to help with the withdrawls. However, I asked for it and he just prescribed it and he didn't even really act like he knew it would help, but he said it made sense. However, he prescribed me two months worth at least.
Avatar m tn There have also been problems with people having rebound hypertension when they come off it, which is why it should be taken under supervision. As for the Cymbalta, I would seriously doubt it would help. It takes time to build up in your system. It's an antidepressant and also used to treat certain types of pain. Just a word of caution: I was put on that for nerve pain and I had an adverse affect and was spiraled into a very dark depression.
1909286 tn?1379435137 It is possible that you are having rebound hypertension. Sometimes with the blood pressure meds, when you quit taking them your blood pressure spikes.(Usually it happens after longer term use than a week, but it's hard to say.) Detox can also make your BP spike and high BP can cause massive headaches. It could also be a lot of other stuff too. I had low BP during detox and still had the worst headache. Is there any way you can check your BP?
Avatar n tn Hi there, First of I want to say I am very glad your brother made it through...I can't even imagine how horrible of a time that was for you and your family. I have been on clonidine for about 4 years now for my b/p and have tried a number of times to come off of it. Clonidine is the only b/p med out there that will cause rebound hypertension if you come off of it to fast. In my experince you have to taper off very slowly if you have been taking it for longer then a few days.
Avatar m tn Clonidine is a med also used for hypertension so it would be okay to take the Valium; the two don't compete.Due to the drowsy effect of both, don't take them at the same time.
4605616 tn?1362003158 It helps with sleep, anxiety and jitters. Just be very careful because it is very addictive.
Avatar f tn I understand that when you stop taking Clonidine, you must taper off because you can have a rebound effect. How does one taper off the patch?
Avatar n tn As Lulu747 I also used clonidine while tapering off opiates and just wanted off and went cold turkey over a year ago. (morphine sulfate and fentanyl patch). The clonidine did help with my w/d symptoms as well.
Avatar n tn I was wondering, how does clonadine help with withdrawls? I have been taking percocet for 5 years now for RSD. started at 5/325 3x a day, and 5 years later am taking 6-8 10/325. I have been tapering fast, like 2 5/325 a day, and feel poopy, to put it kindly, but making myself function as best I can. My hubby is very caring and understanding about it. I know these pills help me with my pain, but I in the last month caught myself taking 8 a day instead of the prescribed 6 a day.
Avatar m tn Clonidine works great......and congrats on getting ur life back....I can't believe the difference off drugs.. amazing.....u can do this its well worth it...hang in there....be tough its worth it....
Avatar n tn once you have detoxed just make sure to wean off it slowly before stopping as it can have a rebound effect and send your blood pressure thru the roof.. This drug has been used for many years to help with drug wd.. I hope you stick around keep posting and gather support ok.. Take good care of yourself You are worth it !!
Avatar f tn Hi, Im already taking Norvasc 5 Mg and Lisinopril 12.5 Mg for my Hypertension. My Dr. wants to bring in another Blood Pressure pill ( clonidine) If i spelled that right. Do any of you all take this combo?? Just wondering if all of these made your blood pressure drop too low? Thanks for input!
Avatar f tn I was given beta blockers on two different occasions earlier this year and I landed in the ER both times with my bp extremely high. The second time I had a prescription of clonidine and even that couldn't get it down, so I went to the ER. I have heard that some people can't take beta blockers, and I guess I am one of them. Besides, I have periods of time when my blood pressure is normal, so taking a blood pressure medicine daily makes it go too low.
Avatar f tn I know you should monitor your blood pressure during because it could drop too low and after your done you could experience rebound effects, meaning low blood pressure issues even though you are not taking them. Be careful not to think more is better because you will just drop your blood pressure and end up in the ER or worse. Clonidine is a blood pressure medication but is known to ease WD in very small dosages. Ok if prescribed by your doctor.
Avatar f tn Yes, but I would advise you get the doctors ok before doing this. It's always good to make your doctor aware of what's going on with you and your meds before you make any changes, as heart medications are a dangerous thing to play with. I only say it's ok to take the two together because I am an RN and know that Clonidine is commonly prescribed as an as needed medication for breakthrough hypertension. So I would make a call to your doctor before making changes.
Avatar m tn I have present LVH last measured 6 years ago at 15mm and hypertension present currently on beta blocker, losartan and clonidine. I have been getting arrhythmias recently that feel like ectopic beats but I’m worried they could be ventricular arrhythmias which could be more serious. I workout 3-4 days a week and recently saw my doctor which wants me to do a holster monitor and echo in two weeks (after it clears my insurance). Anyone had similar issues?
