Avatar f tn As always, I recommend that parents have a close working relationship with the prescribing physician and understand exactly what the medication is, what it is intended to affect, what the side effects are, how direct and side effects will be monitored, and how decisions about dose increases and decreases will be made.
656243 tn?1231288052 t have good health insurance and a standard physician prescribes their psychiatric medications which is not advisable. I am assuming you are seeing a psychiatrist and as for Clonidine and Effexor interacting I have not heard of that one but you should ask them to look it up. They all have a PDR and more importantly I know my psychopharmocologist has a palm pilot where he can look up any medications and see how they interact and has access to information that only a physician would.
Avatar n tn Treatment involves beta adrenergic blockers such as propranolol (Inderal), alpha2-adrenergic agonists such as clonidine, antidepressants, valproic acid (an anticonvulsant and mood stabilizer), and benzodiazepines (sedatives and anti-anxiety drugs). Hope I have provided you with sufficient information. In case you need any more, then pls post us. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn I think kaylee2850 gave some good advice but I see it a little different. I don't believe you can compare cases of PTSD. The one constant is the effects, such as anxiety, anger, depression, etc. What may be traumatic to one person might not be all that traumatic to another. The cause of PTSD is what is different and it can be any event that one takes as traumatic. For instance, I've been diagnosed with PTSD and a sudden loud noise really gets to me.
Avatar f tn occasional xanax for severe anxiety and shortness of breath. I am no longer taking Geodon and Clonidine. I am still feeling EXTREMELY sad. Especially in the mornings. I have to FORCE myslef out of bed and talk myself into living the day. My family doesnt really understand. My husband is supportive of the depression but not substance abuse. He said if I ever do it again he will DEFINITELY leave me, which is a good reason not to. Sorry to be such a downer.
Avatar n tn t feel like it now but you are doing an awesome thing for yourself and everyone around you. And I agree with the clonidine...it helps so much. As far as your depression...if you already have it this situation will just amplify it...again, hang in there...you can do it...
591546 tn?1244636545 I was wondering last week I was Dx with PTSD and also about 6 mo ago Dx with fibromyalgia are the two connected? I am also scheduled for EMDR treatments and on lexaprol and lyrica. what has anyone found to be the best meds for PTSD??
Avatar n tn I felt great (the best ever) mentally on the methadone maybe b/c I am wired way differently, I suffer from bipolar disorder and PTSD. Three weeks ago I kicked the methadone(90 mgs liquid) and started Suboxen(2 mg 2x per day) b/c it was free for me (VeteranAdministration provides it for my service connected disability PTSD) and b/c they give me a 30 day supply which means no daily dosing at clinic. So far I mentally felt so much better on the methadone.
Avatar f tn Has anyone any experience with Clonidine and Lassix in pregnancy? Do they cause miscarriages?
Avatar f tn I am very happy and sober today. I still have PTSD and guess I always will but just feel like I do not have time for my flashbacks etc anymore. I have much more control over my anxiety today that it is almost a non-issue. I sleep through the nights again. My message is that things will get much much better in time. Every person has their own time schedule so be patient with yourself.
Avatar n tn As Lulu747 I also used clonidine while tapering off opiates and just wanted off and went cold turkey over a year ago. (morphine sulfate and fentanyl patch). The clonidine did help with my w/d symptoms as well.
Avatar n tn my son takes clonidine, he has adhd and the drugs he takes to treat the adhd stop him sleeping so he takes the clonidine for that. didnt know it could be used to help with w/d's, apparently clonidine started life as a treatment for high blood pressure but now has many uses. dont know if there are w/d's from clonidine but my sons doc told us never to take him straight of it because it would cause his blood pressure to rocket.
Avatar n tn I have severe major depression and PTSD, I am 54 started when I was five.
Avatar f tn I was the victim of an aggravated assault and shortly afterward my house was literally hit by lightening. My doctor put me on Lexapro and it worked for the PTSD anxiety, but I gained a surreal amount of weight. I have friends who were being treated, not for PTSD, but for depression, and they shared that they were having success with Welbutrin. Can anyone address whether it works for PTSD as well?
Avatar f tn Hello, yes I have been taking this combination of Vyvanse (70mg per day in the am) and Clonidine (0.2mg in the afternoon and 0.2mg at night). I highly prefer Vyvanse over adderall because I do not suffer from side effects w/Vyvanse as with the adderall. The Vyvanse is much smoother than most all other adhd drugs. I have never experienced shortness of breath while taking Vyvanse, however, I am 25 years old and 180lbs. I am also a Registered Nurse.
374251 tn?1246235657 t want to go back to same clinic and I no longer had much money for it anyway. I did research and ordered Clonidine, Atarax, and Catapres from an online pharmacy which would ship without Rx. Results weren't very positive. Clonidine didn't do much for me, Atarax helped me sleep a bit and Catapres didn't do a while lot either. I don't remember the dose I took of Clonidine but they were .15mg pills, so I prob took one twice a day.
Avatar f tn My son is ADHD and was having alot of trouble sleping at night and was prescribed clonidine. It had not affect on him and he continued to wake up and wander during the night. I discovered that this medication is a blood pressure medication and our pediatrician was not monitoring him while he was on this. We also have tried the melatonin and he was up to 3mg a night and it had no affect.
Avatar m tn Ive always liked to use clonidine when I was detoxing, it did help relax me and lessen some of jittery, nervous energy. Hopefully the clonidine helps ease some of the symptoms, I would also get some immodium, some short of short term sleeping aid and lots of fluids. The vitamins and amino acids can really help with getting some energy, but thats all up to you. I wish you the best of luck, you can do this!
Avatar m tn I want to know if it true that you only learn to control your PTSD somewhat but you don;t get rid of it. I've had it for 43 years and two and half years ago it got worse..(Vietnam PTSD) on meds and regular psychological counseling?
Avatar m tn I ran out two weeks early. I was honest with my dr and he put me on clonidine 3 pills a day for 3 days and a patch. It worked I almost feel like my old self. When he refills my meds next week I'm going to not take them unless I am in extreme pain. Learned my lesson!
Avatar f tn I am already starting to get withdrawal symptoms which surprises me as this is not really a small dose. I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. I was wondering if I should start taking it, I am so uncomfortable. I know this is a slow and low taper, is it worth getting it?
880900 tn?1467270141 WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn I started Clonidine three days ago for very high bp. It causes me to have bad breath and stay very thirsty.. How are you doing with it. Suppose to be on it for a month. Do you have any of this ?
349859 tn?1257790973 Thank u! I have been thru wd before but from percs and oxys. This time its subs and I've been in them for 4 and a half yrs. I'm trying to prepare myself for what's to come. I've got myself down to 1 mg and plan to go lower but I've heard horror stories when it comes to getting off subs. The worse part of wd for me is the anxiety and chills. My heart races and I get very nervous feeling. I've heard some say clonidine helps when going through wd.
Avatar f tn My methadone doctor suggested clonidine for these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it and I was wondering if it helps much, and is it worth even taking? Thanks for your responses...
