Avatar f tn Something that will help sleep patterns get back to normal without a prescription and all the terrible side effects that clonidine will cause is MELATONIN. My son has been taking melatonin for 3 years now and sleeps much much better. I give him 3mg 1 hour before bed and in about 20-30 mins. he goes in and goes to sleep and sleeps all night. He wakes up without that groggy feeling like sleep aids cause. They also make this in 5 mg doses for older children.
Avatar f tn My son is ADHD and was having alot of trouble sleping at night and was prescribed clonidine. It had not affect on him and he continued to wake up and wander during the night. I discovered that this medication is a blood pressure medication and our pediatrician was not monitoring him while he was on this. We also have tried the melatonin and he was up to 3mg a night and it had no affect.
Avatar f tn yes it does help but it will knock you on your ***, dry mouth, go to the vitamin store and get L-tyrosine, and get SAM-e, also get melatonin for sleep, either get a potassium supplement for the leg stuff or eat alot of bananas, hope this helps
880900 tn?1467270141 WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.
397118 tn?1219762250 I have found success with the sublingual form of Melatonin- It looks and tastes like a mint, and you just pop it in your mouth and suck on it 15 minutes prior to bedtime. Experiment with dosage, but start very small, at 1/2 mg. If that doesn't help you sleep, take another 1/2. If you have trouble staying alert and focused the next day, or if getting out of bed is difficult, lower your dose.
Avatar f tn I take clonidine to help with my hypertension and also withdrawl symptoms. Now I also take 2mg xanax xr per day, and melatonin 5mg, to help me sleep. My clonidine are actually the .2 and I take them 3 times daily. Ive been on clonidine for almost a year and they do relax you a bit and but not sure about using just to sleep. You would have to just take them at night, because I know with atleast me when I take them as presicribed about every 5-6 hrs I dont get drowsy hardly at all.
Avatar m tn Ask your doctor for Clonidine. It's an old blood pressure med that helps with withdrawals. (And nerve pain.) I think the way you tapered you'll find it will help a lot. For sleep, Melatonin may help or Alteril. Both are all natural and don't cause any dependence.
Avatar m tn I took Suboxone8mg/daily, Xanax XR2mg/daily, clonidine .2/3per day, and melatonin to help me sleep. Now clonidine does help withdrawls, but you may find that the next few days get worse, hopefully not. I was on the suboxone for almost 4 months and had little w/d effects. I still take my clonidine and xanax xr along with the melatonin. I mainly take clonidine for my blood pressure it just so happened that it was also used to help with withdrawls.
459663 tn?1236000877 When I detoxed I took a sleep blend from GNC, Melatonin, and L-theanine with some liquid Calcium/Magnesium. That cocktain of natural stuff worked for me. I slept great. If you are not taking any anti-depressants, 5HTP can also help with sleep and depression. Good Luck.
Avatar n tn I got Clonidine from my doctor for the first 5 days clean and it helped. Melatonin helped with the sleeping (OTC), and Ibuprofen. I also got some Klonopin for the anxiety and it helped some - but it was only for any anxiety that broke through which wasn't much. Hot showers for the muscle aches or icy hot as orange said - I used the patches myself. Sometimes I would just stand under the hot (as in turns your skin red) shower for what felt like an hour and just let it run over me.
401095 tn?1351391770 had no trouble sleeping the first couple years and then all downhill from there. still taking a little bit of a benzo to sleep. going to now taper off that and try the melatonin. I PRAY that it will work for me, and also PRAY that my anxiety will ease up a bit after a while. darn pills cause all sorts of problems!! but, here I am on day 5, clean from hydros!!!!
Avatar f tn How many mg of trazodone are you taking? I am taking 150 mg it only gives me 1-2 hours sleep so I added some melatonin and valerian now get about 4 hours but I wake up for about 10 min every hour then go back to sleep.
Avatar f tn Sometimes (often) the levels are low and can be beefed up with a supplement of melatonin. Get a bottle and take 2-3 for sleep. It works at night so take it one half hour before bed or sleep in a very dark room.
407249 tn?1215350469 s/medical stuff. ANyways, they gave me Clonidine which helped with the sleep and the porfuse sweating. AND, ever since I took the Clonidine I stopped sobbing uncontrollably! I still cry a little, but not SOB. There's a big difference. I'm so sick of bananas I could die, but I've heard to keep eating them for the leg cramps....ARGH. I'd like to stick them up someone's a** right about now....no one in particular...but someone!
4583567 tn?1360256847 hi....have you tried Melatonin or Alteril? that helped me after awhile......the no sleep thing is horrible....and also there is something at Walmart called Restless Leg..i haven't tried that....but they say it helps.. B12 is good to help you get energy back....B12 sublingual.....hot baths helped me alot too. Good luck and keep posting for support!
Avatar m tn Anyone have any sleep aid suggestions? Something OTC. I took my last clonidine last night, and am trying not to think about losing sleep tonight.
Avatar m tn Otherwise, your body goes the opposite direction and causes higher blood pressure and symptoms you are describing. The clonidine should work for your sleep, too...so try to not use the Ambien as much. Also, you might try Ambian CR...it lasts much longer than Ambien...I've used them both and there is a big difference. I would start the clonidine again, for sure...and then scale it down. Hang in there...day 15 is something to be proud of!
Avatar f tn i took calcium/magnesium/zinc and melatonin, combined with quiet very dark environment for sleep. It still took weeks to be able to sleep more than 2hrs at a time though.Research on melatonin , how the body produces it and how to use the supplement was well worth it though. i came off heavy opiate/heroin 8 year habit,.

461194 tn?1207598807 found out...melatonin...as well as some thing called vallerium...buy at wallmart...melatonin..will help to sleep...and the valerium...with anxiety...just dont drive....
Avatar f tn Bananas for potassium, a good mutli-vitamin, maybe Melatonin and/or Valerian Root at night to help with sleep. Long, hot baths will help with muscle pain and you can add some Epsom salts to help as well. Keep posting as well and let us know how you are doing. It helps to talk to others going through the same thing. You can do this!
500407 tn?1218554439 keep going....how much melatonin did you take? it knocks me and my hubby out....i am hard to knock out and i was at the same dose as you approx. I take 3 pills which are mcg on the melatonin and it works for me.... good luck!
767538 tn?1276575320 Im not sure if it would help but have you tried clonidine, maybe some melatonin or l-tryptophan for sleep. I took 3-5mgs of melatonin at night and it would allow me to get a few hrs of sleep. The clonidine can help with your blood pressure and the overall jitters. The one other thing is excercise, I know thats probably the last thing you want to do, but even a brisk walk can help calm you down.
Avatar f tn Are you taking anything for sleep, I used melatonin for awhile and it worked for me. I would imagine your through the worst of wds so be ready to feel like a new person soon, your doing great.
Avatar n tn I have tapered down to 10 mgs of hydro from 120 mg a day. I was on it for about 2 years every day. Can i take both valium and clonidine at the same time to help with my withdrawal symptoms. The last time I went through this my body was so extremely uncomfortable. I had to keep clinching my muscles every time i started to relax and didnt sleep for 4 days. It ultimately let to a failed clod turkey attempt. Thanks so much everybody and i really hope i can get through it this time......
Avatar n tn My son is with me and stopping his drug use, he is going thru withdraws, What can I do to help. He doesn't want to go to a treatment center.
Avatar f tn Due to this, she has had several medication changes. Clonidine, lamictril, and melatonin have been added to her current meds. So far we are not seeing an improvement in the behaviors. Has anyone had a similiar experience with aggressiveness in their special needs child? I am looking for any suggestions to help my child - and family - through this situation.
