Avatar n tn Overstimulation can put it in hypertensive crisis too.(think phone calls , conversations) I do very badly with meds (mast cell issue?) so was hoping for an Integrative med solution...For context note other symptoms go with it - impossible to control temps- one minute chills and freezing, the next hot surges so strong i've ripped the buttons clear off my shirt/.
Avatar m tn I know that Tizanidine is similar to Clonidine and I have read that if you stop Atenolol while on Clonidine you could go into hypertensive crisis due to alpha antagonism. I am curious if this is also an issue with Tizanidine. I've read Tizandine is like 1/50th the potency of Clonidine but I'm not sure if there are any issues here. I am only taking 12.
473384 tn?1210206242 Hi, i read your advice on taking clonidine for withdrawals. I have 1 mg. clonidine and am going thru withdrawals. How many should i take thru the day and night? I do not have low blood pressure. Also, i am on morphine 30 mg. and hydrocodone 10mg. I take 3x's a day.
417564 tn?1287982827 I just spoke with Steven and there is someone he works with sending clonidine home for us. I realize we should be under a dr.'s care but we aren't. 1. Can we both take it? 2. 1 per night, correct? Could we 1/2 one tonight, would that help? 3. Is there a reason we should not use this?
Avatar f tn If the hot flashes are too distressing then additional medications like clonidine may help. Clonidine is an anti-hypertensive drug that also helps with the hot flashes. Consult your Doctor. Take care & good luck.
Avatar m tn s yeast contains a large amount of tyramine, a substance that can interact with MAOIs and cause a hypertensive crisis. A hypertensive crisis is characterized by a rapid and dangerous rise in blood pressure that can cause heart attack or stroke.
Avatar f tn After 9 days from the surgery with no complications at all he had a hypertensive crisis where his blood pressure jumped to 210/110 and got pulmonary edema at the same time, that made him not conscious at all, unable to breath, unable to move the right side of his body and had convulsions all over his left side. His medical history: he had a brain stroke and a duodenum hemorrhagic ulcer one year ago. The pathology of pancreatic mass isn’t done yet.
Avatar n tn p.s., the guidelines on the lower number (diastolic) is that anything > 110 is classified as hypertensive crisis (emergency care needed).
Avatar m tn it really helps with the hot/cold flashes, the temp. and BP spikes, and the restlessness and insomnia as well, it is truly one of the most important detox meds for opiates.it would be nice to have all BP meds aid wd's, but sadly clonidine uniquely is the only one..
Avatar f tn I am currently on the patch, I have been on it for 2 years now. I did not start feeling the effects of the patch for around a month and a half after I started wearing it.
Avatar m tn First, a hypertensive crisis happens when the blood pressure is extremely high (usually >200 mmHg) and organ damage occur (though not with raised intracranial pressure). A blood pressure of 160-170 systolic is only moderately increased and very unlikely to cause any symptoms at all. Headache is rarely seen as symptom of hypertension in the absence of increased intracranial pressure (which likely manifest with other symptoms as well - malignant hypertension).
Avatar f tn Clonidine is a blood pressure medication and if he took .1 mg tablet 3 times per day it would help. Also if someone. Can monitor giving him small doses of Klonipin would help. Do you have a dr that would give a script for the Clonidine?
Avatar m tn Did you mean transient global amnesia? Usually this condition affects people younger than you are. Do you have a history of migraines? One source says: "there's no easy way to distinguish transient global amnesia from the life-threatening conditions that can also cause sudden memory loss. In fact, sudden amnesia is much more likely to be caused by a stroke or a seizure than by transient global amnesia." (from http://www.mayoclinic.
Avatar f tn I recently had to come off both control due to hypertensive crisis. After being off my birth control, I feel so much better. My sex drive is up and I feel more balanced. We want to start trying for a baby in 6-12 months, so I'm not going back on birth control, but we need an alternative. Condoms are not pleasurable for my husband. I've been doing the VCF, but it's not as effective. Can I double the VCF to improve effectiveness? Or do you know any other options? Thanks.
1405919 tn?1281175167 It was ocasionally used to treat, on a short-term basis, a hypertensive (blood pressure) crisis of unknown etiology because it is a systemic vasodilator and increases body capacitance. For the same reason some physicians used to prescribe opiates for unstable angina.
3123787 tn?1384180687 There is also elevated plasma creatine phosphokinase, raised white blood cell count, possible hypertensive crisis and metabolic acidosis. It is best that further evaluation is done by your doctor for proper diagnosis. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Since February of this year I've been getting these random episodes of tachycardia where my heart rate goes up to 180-190's, and this will end up lasting for either several hours or even days. My skin gets really flushed and my hands feel shaky during these. I've been seeing a cardiologist since May of this year, and he's done mri/stress-echo/24hr urine/blood tests/ekg's etc. He hasn't figured out what it is yet and told me most of my tests come back normal.
Avatar f tn Long story short, meds and changes have lowered my SYS bp from 220 to mid 150s. I had no symptoms in the hospital when diagnosed. I’m feeling a bit light headed now though and wondering others experience? I know the meds say this could be a side effect. No other symptoms at all. Thanks in advance.
757137 tn?1347196453 How long did he really have hypertension and how high was it? Is there also diabetes? Which other organs were also affected by a hypertensive crisis? To me as a layperson the spots in the left eye seem to be vitreous hemorrhages which are not typical for AMD. Please read: http://en.wikipedia.
656243 tn?1231288052 t have good health insurance and a standard physician prescribes their psychiatric medications which is not advisable. I am assuming you are seeing a psychiatrist and as for Clonidine and Effexor interacting I have not heard of that one but you should ask them to look it up. They all have a PDR and more importantly I know my psychopharmocologist has a palm pilot where he can look up any medications and see how they interact and has access to information that only a physician would.
Avatar f tn Looking for some guidance here. I recently was told I was in hypertensive crisis and found out my liver enzymes were elevated. I had an ultrasound of my liver which was clear and my blood labs are good. I'm on a small bp prescription and it's slowly coming down but they want to add 3 more as I experience spikes in my bp when I go to the doctor. They don't know why my liver function is elevated or why I have high bp when I haven't had this issue before.
1035021 tn?1296820707 Hi, I'm a 36 yo male. 2 weeks ago I made the most stupid thing in my life by taking for the fisrt time a complete bottle of pure DEXTROMETORPHAN when I'm taking TRAMADOL daily, that day I ended in the hospital by a respiratory crisis, tachycardia and high blood pressure, after that I'm having like night panic attacks and high blood pressure moments that I control with an special med. I'm afraid everything is in my mind but I can't control it sometimes.
Avatar f tn Clonidine is not an anti anxiety medication, but rather an anti hypertensive medication (used to treat high BP), it is Rx'd a lot during detox to help keep BP down, and does seem to have a calming effect for some people. It doesn't have a HUGE potential for abuse, but it should only be used short term, during the initial phases of detox. Also, never take more than Rx'd, there is a good possibility you could become hypotensive, which could result in a medical emergency.
4605616 tn?1362003158 It helps with sleep, anxiety and jitters. Just be very careful because it is very addictive.
