Avatar f tn I'm almost 60 years old and have been experiencing severe hot flashes for years. A couple years ago I was put on 0.05mg Vivelle-dot patches. I'm still having the flashes. My forehead, especially, sweats a lot wetting my bangs completely! Would going on a higher dose of Vivelle stop the hot flashes? I want to keep on bioidentical-type remedies and wondered if something else included/instead of would do the trick. I'd greatly appreciate help!
Avatar f tn i already had a hysteractomy a few years a go and iam having hot flashes and night sweats iam taking hormone pills so why iam im going thoug this stuff?
Avatar m tn However as the oral HRT does not suit you, other medicines are available for dealing with hot flushes like clonidine. Consult your Doctor regarding the same. Hope this helps. Take care.

Avatar f tn Hi there, I am tapering down from methadone, was at 130mgs two years ago, and am currently at 41mgs, now tapering 2mgs/ week. I know this is a low and slow taper but still I am not feeling so great. I keep getting hot flashes, nausea and going hot and cold, it's uncomfortable. My methadone doctor suggested clonidine for these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it and I was wondering if it helps much, and is it worth even taking? Thanks for your responses...
Avatar f tn I am already starting to get withdrawal symptoms which surprises me as this is not really a small dose. I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. I was wondering if I should start taking it, I am so uncomfortable. I know this is a slow and low taper, is it worth getting it?
Avatar f tn progesteril is the best treatment for hot flashes and also for symptoms of menopause.
Avatar n tn I had a hysterectomy 4 months ago and I understand what you are going through. I immediately start having hot flashes and night sweats and it was absolutly horrible. I spoke with my doctor and he put me on Venlafaxine HCL ER TSBS he said to make sure they don't give me the generic because if it is not the Venlafaxine HCL ER (extended release) it will make me sick ( throw up). I have been on it for two weeks now and it really works for me.
Avatar f tn My doc says Effexor and Clonidine will help flashes. I do not want to take Effexor, and Clonidine may lower my blood pressure too much since I am already on two blood pressure meds. I will try the Evista and if get flashes again, I may just stop. I read magnesium helps, so I tried. It did help quite a bit, but unfortunately, if you take enough, you get diarrhea. Some choice. So if anyone knows of other alternatives for flashes, please post.
Avatar f tn but from what I understand the creepy crawlies, hot/cold flashes are peaks and valleys in your BP - mostly spikes in your pressure. Clonidine is a very old and reliable blood pressure medication. Taken short term it is supposed to help the skin bumps, hot/cold flashes by controlling your blood pressure. Its also known to make you very sleep (an added bonus I guess). Be careful no matter what though and obviously only take through your doctor.
Avatar f tn Ever since I had my ovary removed 8 days ago, I am having significant hot flashes.I have hot flashes all night long and at least once an hour during the day, sometimes every 20 minutes. I know it's hot out but I am in a very cool house. I can have a hot flash while standing in the air stream of the air conditioner! I do not have a fever either. This is driving me nuts! Do other people experience these hot flashes after a unilateral ovary removal?
Avatar f tn 02 clonidine patch, then .
Avatar m tn I was on hormones for years and my doctor, who is from Canada, put me on clonidine and it has been a miracle drug for the hot flashes with almost no side affects. Clonidine has also been used to reduce menopausal flushing, to treat postherpetic neuralgia, to treat ulcerative colitis, and to diagnose pheochromocytoma. Clonidine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
Avatar f tn I have been taking clonidine for the side effects of the hot flashes, and I must say, it helps quite a bit. It also works like a sleeping pill for quite some time, and that is very short-acting. Clonidine is not the same as Klonipin, and which is a sedative. Clonidine is a high Blood pressure drug but used for a variety of other causes. (I started out with .1 mg and am now taking .2 mg) it;s very cheap also, and I thought just worth mentioning, as I have never heard this mentioned anywhere.
Avatar m tn I am 95 days off methadone, and 15 days off Norco. I took clonodine for hot flashes. I had the patch for over a year until I figured out that my unrelenting rash and itching that my doctor called stasis dermatitis due to lyphemdema, was actually an allergic reaction to the catapress patch. I've been on the pills now for about a year or so. Time gets away from me.
Avatar f tn Can I ask what you are WDing from? That might help. I have found that Lyrica (a med for nerve pain, fiber etc is great for this. It is not a narcotic medication. Also, a hot bath helps for a short amountnof time. I can handle the other symptoms of WD but this is the worst! Good Luck!
Avatar m tn Clonodine is a blood pressure medication that helps immensely with leg cramps and those hot/cold flashes, it will also help with the anxiety and some other w/d symptoms like insomnia. Just make sure you watch your blood pressure is all I'm asking. Be safe. You will only need it during the acute w/d phase....the first 2-4 days in most cases. Also, if you get 0.1 mg tablets, I would recommend that you only take 1/2 at a time.
Avatar n tn I was an emotional wreck, sweats, hot flashes, stomach etc.... Does clonidine help with the mental at all? Is it addictive? Am I to far along in the process to start it? Meaning the worst is behind me? I have really been looking into Suboxen because I do not want to relapse. The thing that scares is me I would be trading one addiction for another and I dont think my case is severe enough for it.
Avatar m tn it really helps with the hot/cold flashes, the temp. and BP spikes, and the restlessness and insomnia as well, it is truly one of the most important detox meds for opiates.it would be nice to have all BP meds aid wd's, but sadly clonidine uniquely is the only one..
Avatar f tn Clonodine is actually a blood pressure med that helps during withdrawals because of the elevated heart rate associated with withdrawals. It does seem to help other symptoms also such as hot/cold flashes, insomnia, creepy crawlies, and just overall makes you feel a bit better. Do be careful because since it is a blood pressure medication it can potentially cause some problems. More than likely you will be fine taking them but if you notice you feel faint or dizzy get to the doctor.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I posted on the weekend and only got one response so I am posting again, I know that the weekends are slow, people are out and about doing their thing. I am on methadone and have been tapering since the summer of 2010 and now down to 22mgs. I am dropping my dose by 1mg/week. I am starting to get withdrawal symptoms which scares me because at this rate I still have 5 months to go to get off, that is if I am able to maintain dropping one mg/week.
Avatar n tn Luckily you've only been on for a month so wds shouldn't be too severe. You'll likely experience flu-like symptoms... hot/cold flashes, sweats, muscle aches, etc. Much of it is also your mind frame. If you think you will feel horrible, you will feel horrible. You could get lucky and experience very minimal wds, many people say their first few cold turkey experiences weren't that bad.
3160266 tn?1343672102 It all depends on yourself and family history about how long you go through menopause. Some breeze right through it all like nothing and then you have me who suffer's every night lol the bed has become my number one enemy . You can buy stuff to help ease the symptoms at walmart or cvs or any plaace that would sell them .What I would like to know is what do men go through for menopause? lol Think they have it way too easy!
Avatar m tn I started to feel better around day 10, but still have symptoms of stomach pain, restlessness, and the hot/cold flashes. The restlessness and flashes are significantly better though. It seems every day or two, I feel an improvement. 6 years on methadone and I am finally almost free!
Avatar f tn says it works great on reducing hot flashes. If this is so maybe I will cut back on HRT for hot flashes. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Pregnancy night sweats are similar to hot flashes, although they take place during the night as a woman sleeps as opposed to hot flashes that occur during the day. Night sweats during pregnancy, which is also known as "nocturnal hyperhydrosis" during pregnancy occur because the body´s temperature gauge begins to malfunction as a result of hormonal imbalance that occurs during pregnancy.
