My son was on Vyvanse and Clonodine for a long time and it was a life saver. He has ADHD and ODD as well. The doctor wanted to try Tenex. We did that for several weeks and I begged to go back on Clonodine. Tenex was awful for us! Clonodine is fantastic and helps him go to sleep at night!

but 2 months ago the doc added Guanfacine and Clonidine to help. then things became bad again. And guanfacine is not easy to come off of. We lately we have had outburts like previous to trileptal. and so he has presrcibed the Risperal. we are nervous about what we are reading for side effects including males developing breasts and milk. we are looking for someone who has used it a while in a young boy.
beta blockers? clonidine? guanfacine? alpha blockers? Ace receptor blockers? calcium channel blockers? All seem awful for my case. (e.g. what if it turns out have a hidden pheo? what if i do have mast cell). plus am so intolerant of meds. And with those swings in bp, this is not normal hypertension. Anyone have success? docs are useless and I'm doctored out!!
my question is recently we have been perscribed tenex for him his ocd has took over his daily living and its breaking my heart, i think we tried tenex years ago and it did the reverse.. al adhd meds do the opposite on him,
looking for users that know of or have tried tenex themselves on there child. for ocd. ty in advance.
He goes to therapy once a week to try and help get him under control. He is also taking medication and nothing seems to be working. I am about at the end of my rope. He talks back, hits, is crual to animals, and hurts himself on purpose. He has also talked about shooting people. He is getting in trouble at school as well. Screaming at the teacher, lying, stealing, and hitting. I dont know what else to do. I have no family or friends around to turn to.
my son will be eight years old next month and he is on guanfacine. he just started a few nights ago. he already has a lot of the side effects, but no change in behavior yet. he was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD. though it is too soon to tell i have more concerns than optimism when it comes to this medication because it does cause weight loss and loss of appetite and my son has alot of trouble keeping weight on as it is.
My granddaughter (6yrs old) is now taking 2 mg of Guanfacine HCL ER 24hr. It has helped with her outbursts and she is much more focused. The issue is, she is waking up in the middle of the night, hungry and unable to go back to sleep. We were giving it to her in the am as prescribed. She was having problems staying awake at school. We have switched to the pm before bed thinking it would help her sleep and be more alert at school.
Tenex, which is generic name guanfacine, and clonidine are 2 medications that can be used for tics. Each have their side effects but they are in general safe and are often effective in suppressing tics. Some recent research has shown that behavioral therapy may be helpful to some individuals.
Always, always read up on any med prescribed by the doctors and never stop without consulting them on the correct way to stop. Note, most stim meds like concerta, etc can be suddenly stopped. Resperidone and guanfacine are different kinds of meds.
She was having more and more angry outbursts over very small things, and would become aggressive out of the blue. It was very surprising because she is very smart and engaging, though she has always had a hard time staying on task or focused. Very short attention span and high energy always. My concern is her doctor prescribed Guanfacine (I believe it was the lowest dose) generic for Tenex. We noticed her behavior worsening almost immediately.

She has been prescribed zoloft, loxapine, adderall and guanfacine. She did much better at first but now has increased aggression and can not stop urinating. She goes constantly and even urinates in her underwear. Can one of these meds be causing these problems?
he wakes up just screaming and hitting and biting himself. throwing himself on the floor and can not calm himself down. he sees a lady at the specialty clinic but has really been no help. she put him on tenex but it is a sleeping aid. i have done almost everything to get answers and nothing is comming of this..
He has been through several different meds, his behavorial doctor was prescribing him stimulates which were not good for him. Recently we changed doctors and she prescribed him guanfacine er it seemed to work at first but now he's gone back to his old self. But it's not really the ADHD that's the big issue, its the ODD, and its bad, so much so that his school has suspended him multiple times for death threats and breaking school property.
my son takes clonidine, he has adhd and the drugs he takes to treat the adhd stop him sleeping so he takes the clonidine for that.
didnt know it could be used to help with w/d's, apparently clonidine started life as a treatment for high blood pressure but now has many uses. dont know if there are w/d's from clonidine but my sons doc told us never to take him straight of it because it would cause his blood pressure to rocket.
Hello, yes I have been taking this combination of Vyvanse (70mg per day in the am) and Clonidine (0.2mg in the afternoon and 0.2mg at night). I highly prefer Vyvanse over adderall because I do not suffer from side effects w/Vyvanse as with the adderall. The Vyvanse is much smoother than most all other adhd drugs. I have never experienced shortness of breath while taking Vyvanse, however, I am 25 years old and 180lbs. I am also a Registered Nurse.
My son is ADHD and was having alot of trouble sleping at night and was prescribed clonidine. It had not affect on him and he continued to wake up and wander during the night. I discovered that this medication is a blood pressure medication and our pediatrician was not monitoring him while he was on this. We also have tried the melatonin and he was up to 3mg a night and it had no affect.
Ive always liked to use clonidine when I was detoxing, it did help relax me and lessen some of jittery,nervous energy. Hopefully the clonidine helps ease some of the symptoms, I would also get some immodium, some short of short term sleeping aid and lots of fluids. The vitamins and amino acids can really help with getting some energy, but thats all up to you. I wish you the best of luck, you can do this!
