795648 tn?1237252599 Theres no otc pain relievers that Im aware of that have negative interaction with clonidine, and yes you can take immodium. I take clonidine still to this day for my blood pressure and I use naproxen, aspirin, tylenol etc. and I was taking immodium during my detox while on clonidine. If you want to be safe go to drugs.com and look up clonidine and it will tell you all the possible interactions it can have. As far as I know there shouldnt be anything to worry about.
Avatar n tn What I can tell you though is that Propanolol is a Beta Blocker used for the preventative treatment of migraine headaches and that Fioricet is a butalbital that is sometimes used for the acute treatment of migraine headache.
Avatar f tn Clonidine belongs to a class of drugs called central alpha-adrenergic agonists, so no...it is not a beta blocker... Beta-blockers have been used in cocaine rehab as it can control the "fight or flight' response ...

1399363 tn?1462342610 With no insulin secretion, a masked hypoglycemia and hyperkalemia occur. Therefore the antidotes for beta blocker toxicity consist of glucagon and calcium gluconate. For the hypoglycemia and hyperkalemia respectively." "Beta receptors are specifically linked to calcium-gated potassium channels, and their activation allows potassium to enter the cell directly. A blocker, therefore, will inhibit this uptake.

Avatar m tn I have present LVH last measured 6 years ago at 15mm and hypertension present currently on beta blocker, losartan and clonidine. I have been getting arrhythmias recently that feel like ectopic beats but I’m worried they could be ventricular arrhythmias which could be more serious. I workout 3-4 days a week and recently saw my doctor which wants me to do a holster monitor and echo in two weeks (after it clears my insurance). Anyone had similar issues?
401554 tn?1270213756 Hi everybody, I've been diagnosed with PVC's along with an elevated heart rate (~90-95 BPM while resting) and am currently taking Atenolol 50mg per day, which has reduced my PVC's and heart rate significantly. However, I still get bouts of PVC's and a pounding heart from time to time. My doctor thinks it's because I have very high anxiety levels, which has charged up my sympathetic nervous system.
Avatar m tn Is there a reason he is making a choice of these two meds? Propranlonol is a beta blocker and used for short term things like social anxiety. Like if you have to do a big presentation or speech and are nervous-- people can take this and it gets them through that. This seems like a very odd choice for generalized anxiety disorder. Clonodine is a drug for lowering blood pressure but it has gotten other indications of anxiety and panic disorder.
Avatar n tn I took Atenolol and related beta blockers along with Prevacid and PPI's for twelve years with no drug interaction. I'm not a health professional and not qualified to give advice, but can give my opinion based on experience. I agree with Londres70, and suggest I had no problems taking both types of drugs.

Avatar m tn I know that Tizanidine is similar to Clonidine and I have read that if you stop Atenolol while on Clonidine you could go into hypertensive crisis due to alpha antagonism. I am curious if this is also an issue with Tizanidine. I've read Tizandine is like 1/50th the potency of Clonidine but I'm not sure if there are any issues here. I am only taking 12.
Avatar m tn I take 100 mg Metoprolol a day and take an antibiotic before any dental work, which has been twice in the last 30 days. The antibiotic I took is 2000 mg of amoxicillin. I have not experienced any interaction - and my dentist and cardiologist both know I'm taking both, in fact the cardiologist wrote the prescription for the antibiotic.
Avatar f tn i do know that beta blockers are not for people with asthma, but i thought if anyone knows if i could take a low dose beta blocker for my anxiety and tachycardia and this low dose beta blocker would not affect my asthma too much. Currently, i am taking 2 mg. zoloft along with 1 mg. clonazepam up to 3 times a day as prescribed by my dr. These used to keep my heart rate down to below 100, but now they are not working as good.
Avatar n tn I have been researching and seen that a tablet called Clonidine can help stop facial blushing. Does it help blushing? And should I give it a try?
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm a 32 year old male, healthy until this past September when I had a fainting episode. Since then I've had a racing heart beat upon standing. I've undergone extensive testing on my heart, everything from an echo to a CT angiogram and all is well structurally and my arteries are clean as a whistle so all good news there. I also wore an event monitor for 3 weeks which picked up sinus tachycardia and PACs.
12182312 tn?1427683956 SSRIs like paroxetine are a type of antidepressant that works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain, while metoprolol is a beta blocker which works on the heart. What type of metoprolol are you taking. Metoprolol Tartrate or Metoprolol Succinate?

Avatar n tn Hi - 49yo male in otherwise good health, had an mi and placement of 3 stents in RCA. Was told that there was no damage to my heart, and have returned to all activity including hi-intensity workouts (which I was doing pre-mi). I've put on about 30 "pity-pounds" (from 185 to 215) and despite increase in exercise and near-saintly eating habits, having a hard time losing. I suspect that Toprol is causing this problem.
Avatar f tn My doctor wanted me to take a beta blocker for migranes and for a recently found Mitral Valve Prolapse. The valve prolapse was really never an issue. I don't usually have negative symptoms from the mitral valve prolapse. Although the last five years of chest discomfort and fluttering during panic attacks could have been from the prolapse and not from just anxiety. Does the beta blocker keep my heart from getting worse?
Avatar m tn m making some good progress without any medication at all, just with counseling and reading. But, maybe if a beta blocker would help with the generalized day-in/day-out 24/7 anxiety I should try it. Just seeing if anyone has any experience with beta blockers. I am doing great battling the full-blown panic attacks but I still have constant anxiety. Oh, and I'm not sure which beta blocker my doctor sent in a prescription for. Thanks!
Avatar n tn My cardiologist recommended I get on metropolol. My blood pressure, cholesterol and pulse are all normal and I have no chest pains, shortness of breath or other heart problem symptoms. My EKG showed some irregularity, and an ultrasound showed mild Plaqueing in one carotid artery. I have read that once you start a beta blocker you're on it for the rest of your life. Also, there can be some pretty serious side effects. Any thoughts?
