My doctor perscribed lorazepam (ativan) and clonidine when I went off percocet a few years ago. I went to check into a rehab facility and because I was dressed like "middle class suburbia" they told me that I shouldn't check in there because I may not "feel comfortable" (the facility & nurse called me several times after I left and told me to come back and apologized).

thanks so much for all the info! i keep reading about how non-habit forming it is.....do you find that to be true at all? also, i did read on the pharmacists' leaflet thing that it's important not to run out of the medication (i.e., make sure you always have your next dose ready)....sounds like that's true based upon what you're saying about being careful to taper when you're ready to stop taking it.....are you still on it now?

hey buddy they are both the same medicine its usually prescribed in low dosage and for mult use through the day and usually combined with clonidine for people going through opiate wd's or mild depression

When you get down to nothing then ask the Dr for some Clonidine. This med is a light BP med that they use alto in the detox stage. It will help you sleep and calm you down..Talk to your Dr about the meds they are using now days for short term. This is a Benzo and can be very addicting and I will tell you that YOU do not want to w/d from this one! Just make sure YOU are drinking LOTS of water and taking lots of good vit/min right now. Make sure your Diet is very healthy too!

I went to ER AND THE PRESCIBED ME SOME ATIVAN, tHE HEART RATE IS STILL HIGH, Have an appointment today. I am currently on 10 day hydrocodone withdrawl. Any insight out there. would love some input.

Would someone let me know if I can use Ativan and Clonidine for opiate withdrawal? Anybody done it this way? Have never had a problem with benzo's. ONly stinkin opiates for 2 years. Please post. thanks.

My doctor tried all the drugs you see on TV and in the end I am taking 10mg oxy 3 times a day and .1mg of clonidine 4 times a day. I have tried going a day only taking one of the drugs but only get relief by taking both. While still being on oxy is not the best I did reduce my intake. I was on 30mg oxy 4 to 5 times a day at my highest dose.

My doc recently advised me that I need to get off of the roxicet and gave me some clonidine and ativan to help with the withdrawals. Will these two drugs actually help or do I need to go to a detox center?

Also, benzos need to be tapered but since you are on such a low amount your doctor may thinks its fine to jump off and jump right on the clonidine and get it over with. But do not take any advice here without first talking to your doctor. Best of luck and God Bless.

A few months back I was having problems walking with tremors etc. the doctors put me on baclofan and ativan. My spasms have almost dimished and I feel so much better. Even a lot the the classic POTS symptoms have been reduced. HR still high but toprol is helping. But why does the baclofe/ativan help so much? Any ideas? The only problem is that I have gained 10 lbs in 1 month on these new meds. I have weighed the same for 20 years so this is disheartening.

I have taken both of those meds before, and they will work to reduce the WDs. The ativan should help you sleep and keep you calm, and the clonidine will help the other WD symptoms. I have also done it with clonidine, alone. I am still taking clonidine at night. It makes me sleepy when I take it at bedtime. I would also drink gatorade and take lots of baths. Vitamins will be good too! So will crackers and something bland in your stomach! Gatorade if NOTHING else though! Good luck!

I was able to begin resuming life normally after this and stopped taking the Gabapentin and Clonidine. I found myself smiling for the first time in ages and full of energy and feeling better than I had felt in a long long time. It’s been several years now and I’ve had to resume taking 2mgs of Xanax several nights a week but I won’t take it anymore than 3-4 times a week and no higher than 2mgs because I don’t ever want to get addicted again.

A combo of clonidine and ativan works well but needs to be administered by a doc. It kinds of put you to sleep for a few days or so and has no residule withdarwl like sub .

I sooooo understand this. I wound up in the ER this last week for blood pressure and heart rate issues. I was still on the percs, but I had run out of my clonidine that I take once a day for blood pressure. The anxiety from getting off of these is THE number one issue. So this time, I have lorazepam and my clonidine. Because I am so pill aversive, I do not take the loraz at all except for sleep, but if my anxiety gets out of control, I'll take a half to calm it down.

Oxazepam is a benzodiazapine, same classification of drugs as Xanax (alprazolam), Ativan (Lorazepam), and Klonopin (Clonazepam). It's a Schedule IV drug. All benzos can be addictive, so be careful with it, and it should be tapered before stopping. Your doc is right about the Clonidine, but it should be noted that your blood pressure does make a difference here, so be careful with it as well. The oxazepam is an anti-anxiety/sedative hypnotic agent by the way.

I finally managed to quit the opioids,and clonidine helped so much.But now I need to taper it,so it does not spike my blood pressure,and avoid the sweating that I get when I forget a dose.I'm taking 800 mg a day,200 mg /6hrs. Thanks for any help!!

Long story short. My doctor switched my Ativan to Clonidine 0.01 for my PMDD night sweats. Has anyone ever taken it for this reason? Did it work, and is 0.01 a low dose. I am afraid to take it because I don't have high BP. Just curious and nervous about taking it. thanks, Nauty......................

I was incredibly tired and dizzy after taking the vistaril about 8 p.m., and then the Clonidine and 25 mg trazadone closer to bedtime. I had some strange sensations and lay awake all night.I have been only averaging 3-5 hrs, a night for over 2 months. It's awful. I also can't stop trying to figure out a solution to this mess, so my mind races & I worry about it a lot. I don't see a good way out of this situation. Can't nap either, just can't sleep.

From above you can see I stepped down from 125mcg to 12.5. Yes I had a few ups and downs but never like going from 25 to 12.5. I am shaking, anxious, have akasthesia, diarrhea and most of all I feel so tired I can't move....all achy. I don't want to go back up on the dose but I also don't want to suffer. I have. Been on this a year. Please advise! How long to get accustomed to 12,5? Thank you.

Well I've taken Imodium, the clonidine , and an Ativan - at work - hard to focus. Stomach hurts- a little depressed.

Do you have this side effect?? I am also on Clonidine for anxiety and high blood pressure. Maybe it is the combination of the two? I am so confused. The medicine is supposed to help anxiety not cause it!!

they will help you detox and that will help tremedously in all aspects, i would ttry and get a few drugs to help two most important prescribed drugs is clonidine and a benzodiazepine like valiumn, ativan, or xanax. the clonidine helps a lot with the sweats, chills, and blood pressure fluctuations, the benzos are extremely helpful in stopping the insane anxiety, insomnia, muscle cramping and spasms, and restlessness.

I have tapered down to 10 mgs of hydro from 120 mg a day. I was on it for about 2 years every day. Can i take both valium and clonidine at the same time to help with my withdrawal symptoms. The last time I went through this my body was so extremely uncomfortable. I had to keep clinching my muscles every time i started to relax and didnt sleep for 4 days. I would keep in close contact with your doctor as he can prescribe clonidine to keep your blood pressure from rising to dangerous levels, along with valium, ativan, or klonopin to ease the anxiety, shakes and jittery-ness, and also short-acting opioid rescue medication to help ease the transition off of Fentanyl and you would then wean slowly off of the short-acting opioid and do a short taper off of the ativan and klonopin (you're not going to be on those very long so you shouldn't h

Hi Kim, Is it possible to get another refill, or maybe switch to a long acting benzo like Valium and slowly taper off. I went through Ativan a few years back, was on it a short time, and shocked at the problems it created. If you go the Valium route try to get off quickly. I'm on day 2 off Norco, had to use Valium and Clonidine. Have to get off the Valium soon. I also stopped Prozac C/T 3 weeks ago. Used it for migraine prevention but I hate the side effects.
