clonidine and anxiety

Hey eveyone. I was recently put on Clonidine to help with anxiety and I am currently on Effexor. Does anyone have any past experiences with Clonidine? Does it work? Do I have to build it up in my system? Thanks C.

i was wondering if anyone heard of clonidine and can give me any info id appriciate it my dr just perscribed it for me cause i have been having anxiety ALOT and trouble sleeping and its from going CT from vics thanks god bless you

hi.....i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.

It really helped me with a lot of the w/d symptoms especially the gastric and anxiety. Did a doctor prescribe the clonidine? Do they know about your taper? Clonidine is commonly prescribed for opiate detox. Let me know if you need anything....

Hi - I have taken Clonidine for opiate withdrawal and have taken it on and off for depression. It is a blood pressure medication. It has helped alot with opiate withdrawal. What drug did you used to take? I don't know if Clonidine is a huge help for anxiety. Usually Klonipin is prescribed but that can be addictive. Also .1 milligram is low. I take .3 mg but only at night. I break it in half if I take during the day. It can make you sleepy. Hope that helps.

so day 1 still and im feeling pretty good mild anxiety but the clonidine is helping it so much. i only have 6 pills total so im trying to make it last with have only taken 3/4ths of a pill so far. crossing my fingers and hoping that i can make it a few more days!!!

She said it would help with the jitters and anxiety. I assume that after that part has passed you could stop but you should check with your doctor or pharmacist.

WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.

Yesterday was my full day 2 from all addictive substances (day 9 from Vicodin) and I had some anxiety late afternoon and evening. Took a pill each time and I was fine. Slept a full 8 hours. I noticed that they make me hungry which I am not thrilled about because I am watching my weight. However, the hunger feeling is worth the benefits. How many percs were you taking a day? When is your Day 1 going to be?

Thus the reason for the foggy head/headache during the acute phase. The clonidine helped immensely and even helps with sleep.

I take clonidine .2 three times a day and have been for over a year for blood pressure and intially to help with withdrawls as I tapered my dose of methadone down from 100-120mgs a day to 30mg. I still have to take it do to my hypertension, so first thing I would check is his blood pressure, just to make sure that it isnt high. After about 1month of taking clonidine there is hardly any sedating feeling as long as you take it as prescribed, but it can be abused just like any medication.

Thank u! I have been thru wd before but from percs and oxys. This time its subs and I've been in them for 4 and a half yrs. I'm trying to prepare myself for what's to come. I've got myself down to 1 mg and plan to go lower but I've heard horror stories when it comes to getting off subs. The worse part of wd for me is the anxiety and chills. My heart races and I get very nervous feeling. I've heard some say clonidine helps when going through wd.

The doctor told me to continue on the clonidine and we would taper down on that once I was on a stable dose of suboxone. He said there are no harmful interactions between the two. But whenever I take the clonidine it feels like it is kicking me into withdrawal again. severe agitation anxiety racing heart dizziness and double vision. Whats going on please?

This will help to keep your heart rate down, anxiety reduced and will almost eliminate the cold sweats. I have used it befor and am currently taking it as we speak. I take 0.1mg every eight hours. For acute W/D you can take 0.2mg every eight hours. but not for more that 10 days. you should taper off the last 2 days. i know you have the patch but it is the same drug.

I'm going on a trip and I won't have my methadone for 3 days. My doc gave me Clonidine to stop the nausea. Will that work?

About 4 months ago I quit smoking and moved into a new house all at once, since then I have been expierencing PVC's. I am 24 and have been the ER twice where the hooked me up to the EKG and it showed everything was fine. They also held me there for about 1 hr on a monitor which also showed everything was fine! After that I went to a cardiogolist who listened to my heart and looked over my ekg's and holter monitor and felt there is nothing to be worried about!

Clonidine helps with the sweats and GI problems with WDs..it slows your body down a bit and helps the anxiety as well...like penelope said...

Just make sure you watch your blood pressure is all I'm asking. Be safe. You will only need it during the acute w/d phase....the first 2-4 days in most cases. Also, if you get 0.1 mg tablets, I would recommend that you only take 1/2 at a time.

If u r in wd, ur anxiety level is high...so the chances of it making u sleepy decrease significantly and hopefully the clonidine will bring u to normal state...if it makes u sleepy u may need to get the dose adjusted..i am not sure of ur habit before//how much or what u were taking It is a blood pressure medication...a potent one and has a side effect of drowsiness cos it slows everything down..so it helps the runs, sleep, anxiety etc.

Went to work this morning, but the anxiety and panic are really bad. I quit taking the clonidine becuase I was afraid of being on it and I didn't like the dry mouth. Now I'm thinking the dry mouth is better than the anxiety! Have any of you used clonidine (.1mg), and when did you start and stop taking it through your withdrawls? Also, will help the anxiety? I would think if my blood pressure goes down and heart rate, it would have a calming effect.

Hi. I take quite a bit of meds everyday for my blood pressure and anxiety. My list is Lisinopril 40 mg, Amlodipine 10 mg, Clonidine .1 mg, labetalol 300 mg. All once a day except for my Clonidine which is twice a day. I have an erectile dysfunction issue that I would like to correct. Is there any medications I could take that will not kill me that will go along with what I take everyday?

Be careful not to think more is better because you will just drop your blood pressure and end up in the ER or worse. Clonidine is a blood pressure medication but is known to ease WD in very small dosages. Ok if prescribed by your doctor. I like patch better because you will not try to take more to make you feel better, Good luck..

Are you talking about anxiety from w/drawal? A low dose of Seroquil will help, or some Clonidine, not Klonopin. Both are very sedating. Those are the only two that worked for w/drawal insomnia for me. If it's caused from an actual anxiety disorder, there are quite a few meds out there, but all work differently for different people. I take Xanax for horrible anxiety, (GAD, social phobia and panic disorder). 2mg's before bed will slow down my thinking but not put me to sleep.

Will my anxiety ever go away? I am 6 weeks off of opiates. Physically I am fine. Not sick anymore. The clonidine helped alot. I have so much anxiety I feel I'm going to jump out of my skin. I still am very short of breath. My doc told me I can keep taking the clonidine for anxiety but I dont think it is working. Anyone have any advise? The depression and anxiety is getting the better of me right now. Sleep is an issue as well.
