Avatar f tn Metronidazole and clindamycin are shown to be effective against anaerobic microorganisms, though tinidazole was the most recently approved antimicrobial agent for BV treatment, and is considered an alternative antimicrobial agent, particularly whenever metronidazole and clindamycin are unavailable or not tolerated. Being a second generation nitroimidazole with a longer half-life than metronidazole, it requires lower dosages, to be taken less frequently than metronidazole.
Avatar f tn The reason that the other poster could have been cured by cipro is that she may have had a Mycoplasma and it may have been sensitive to ciprofloxacin. But the standard treatment for bv is either metronidazole or Clindamycin. So you can try the cipro and see if it clears up but if it doesn't then if can take clindamycin I would then take probiotics after. Cipro can treat a lot of UTI's but not all. It depends on the bacteria that is causing the infection and how resistant it is.

A day or two after I finished my prescription I noticed that I wiped up a little blood on the toilet paper after going to the bathroom. Intravaginal metronidazole gel can be considered for patients who do not tolerate systemic metronidazole, but patients allergic to oral metron-idazole should not be administered intravaginal metronidazole.
