I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.
ve never had a tooth extraction while having abscessing going on, and she said it was fine. Tooth was pulled and was sent home with an Rx of Clindamycin (150mg), 4xday. Infection got worse. Dentist, then used a lazer to open and drain the infected area. Several shots (7-8) of novacaine was needed to numb the area. After procedure, my mouth hurt and burned the worst that I've ever experienced before. The infection is still there.

Any bacterial infection can lead to collection of pus in the tooth can cause tooth abscess. A tooth infection should be treated appropriately to prevent spread of infection. The usually preferred antibiotics are amoxicillin, clindamycin, penicillins and metrogyl.Azithromycin may raise serum methadone levels and/or increase the effects of methadone. an infection has entered that tooth and caused an abscess. the pressure from the abscess has pushed the infection down into soft tissue and most likely infected the saliva glands (thus the swollen cheek) ibuprofen will help pain and some inflamation but the infection MUST be treated with antibiotics or it could spread to your neck, throat, or bloodstream and become life threatening. antibiotics are the only thing that will help these infections.
I had an abscessed tooth and was put on clindamycin. That did not help and was switched to amoxicillin, followed by a root canal. The root canal was a week ago but the lump from the abscess is still on my gum. Is this normal? I was not put on antibiotics after the root canal but I took the last 2 amox. From the prescrip I had been given the week before.
On Jan 10 I had a titanium post inserted into my # 30, a previous root canal tooth (from several years ago). The next day I was in pain, and the pain continued to worsen, including some pretty severe jaw pain. The dentist adjusted the bite, then assumed it was infection, so put me on 10 day penicillin. Nearing the end of that, I developed swelling on the outside gum, the dentist put me on 7 day clindamycin.
I had a root canal on tooth 15 and this is my 3rd week of clindamycin and I keep feeling this tingling feeling from my cheek bone to my jaw on the side where the tooth was infected. I guess there was a bad abscess. What could this lead too if not properly taken care of? I'm concerned the infection is in my bone.
But now my fear is starting another job and then having to turn around and take off to have this work done, ugh! I hear clindamycin is better at fighting tooth infections so hopefully if I start taking it the infection will clear up and will stay away longer giving me time to get another insurance or will it flare back up with a vengeance?
I had a crown put on #13 in 1995, about 6 months later I had to get a root canal on that tooth. This year I had sensitivity to cold on #14 and my Entodonist recommended RCT. I had the RCT done in March, three visits total. My reglar dentist did the core to prep for a crown. In June I started getting pain in my cheek by my nose. An xray showed an abscess involving #12 & #13. My dentist and entodonist recommended RCT on #12. That was done in July.
After amoxicillin and endo retreating tooth, it felt better and fever gone, but 2 days after ending antibiotics, infection returned with intensity, spread along jawline into nearby tooth, causing that tooth to then also need a root canal. I was put back on the same dose of amoxicillin, then tried clindamycin for a few days, but infection continued to spread - a large red hot lump (tablespoon sized) formed on my jawline, just under the 2 affected teeth.
I had the first part of a root canal done (on the last tooth on the upper left side of my mouth) 2wks ago&after that procedure there was almost no pain.I went back for the 2nd part of the root canal 10 days later&the dentist said the tooth was still infected&was bleeding during the procedure.I have been on really strong antibiotics (Clindamycin 500mg 3x/day;Clarithromycin 500 mg 2x/day;Amoxicillin 500mg 2x/day)for 2wks now.I am also taking 600mg of Ibuprofen 2x/day for 2 wks.
I have an abscess that has gotten progressively worse despite two shots of antibotics and one day of clindamycin and one day of amoxacilin. The swelling and pain is getting worse. Two shots of deadening medicine would not deaden the nerve, so my dentist postponed the root canal. Should I go to the emergency room for an evaluation?
May 15 I developed an abscess. They can't get me in to get the 2 teeth pulled until June 25th. The next day, my cheek was the size of a baseball and the meds weren't helping. I went to th ER. Dr numbed it, cut a slit in it, gave me dilaudid &zophran, &sent me home with vicodin. RELIEF!
June 3 it was back. I went to the dentist June 5. He couldn't see me. They called in 825mg amoxicillin 2x a day &the weakest dose of vicodin.

I gave a RCT treatment to my patient who has chronic periapical abscess at lower right 6 but no sinus and swelling was present in her mouth.But I saw that abscess in intra-oral periapical view.While I was treating her tooth, everything was alright.And then,2days after treating RCT, she suffered a slight pain and swelling at submandibular region.I forgot something to explain that I saw a root fracture line in X-ray but that tooth was not mobile.
i had my tooth cut out today and it made me think of all the questions i heard about dry socket on here. they all mention holes and whatnot in their gums. is this something that occurs after their stitches come out? i am curious because the dentist stitched my gums up after the extraction and so there is no hole. i guess i'm just wondering why all the people with dry socket keep referring to a hole and i don't have a hole. not that i'm looking for dry socket or anything.

I have been on clindamycin 150mg 2 every 8 hours for 4 days with a gum abscess. Its still hasnt come to a head yet, and very painful , I can feel a heart beat in it.Was wondering how long will it last. And is there any way to make it come to head. Had mini dental implants put in 3 years ago with 4 up top ,, and the gum abscess is right on top of it .
Not all antibiotics work well for everything. Usually for a tooth abscess, we prescribe amoxicillan or clindamycin. Also, be careful with how much ibuprofen you take! It can be hell on your kidneys! I'm afraid it may be time for a root canal or an extraction on that tooth. With that much trauma, it just may have finally had enough. There are vitality tests that your dds can do to see just how much life that tooth has left.
