I am a 21 year old male. I have been diagnosed with strep throat two weeks ago after rapid test. Symptoms were mild no fever and I had mostly stomach problems rather then throat but a huge swollen node under my jaw which hasn't gone away. I was taken z pack antibiotics for 5 days but still felt sick. So I was given clindamycin which worked I felt better after two days.
About nine days into it, I asked my boss/family doctor to do a throat swab. She looked at my throat, did a swab and did a rapid strep test at my request. It came out positive. I had immense problems with swallowing due to pain and after three antibiotics did not help, she sent me to an ENT, who put me on Clindamycin 300 mg qid with food. That helped but we never followed up to make the infection cleared. About two weeks ago, I started having similar symptoms again.
Firstly, has he been cultured for strep throat and/or had a rapid strep test done? Secondly, steroids are good for getting inflammation down but they cause you get very immunocompromised. Are these oral steroids and were they actually perscribed by a doctor. I would stop the steroids. He could also have a resistant strain of Strep. so they may need to do a antibiotic sensitivity panel if the culutre is still positive. Lastly, it may virus that he got after the initial infection.
I noticed my tonsils were swollen much like they were both times before. Once again I was swabbed and tested for strep, along with mono. The strep test was positive again, and I was given Clindamycin four times a day for ten days. I've got three more days left of taking it. I work in Surgery, no one at work has gotten sick, my family, my friends, including my roommate have yet to catch strep.
Group B strep is different from Group A strep that is the cause of strep throat.
In the last 3 months, my daughter has had strep throat 4 times, and I have had it 3 times, all 7 cases confirmed by positive throat cultures. My daughter has taken penicilin the first 3 times, then the fourth time both Clindamycin and Rifampin (the latter given the last 4 days of the former). Our entire family of 4 was tested to see if any of us are carriers, with negative results. My tonsils were removed as a child, yet there is talk of removing my daughters (seems pointless to me).
When I was a kid I had asymptomatic strep...not even little white dots or sore throat. But others would be sick with strep. In this case no one is. How long should I wait before being worried? Is the meds I am taking enough. I am 5'5" female 40 and weigh 244. The meds are not old. They were given to my mom who had a bee sting for skin infection which she never used it. She is roughly my size. It's been only 12 days and I know 7-14 days is what to wait on things.
My son was diagnosed w mono & strep C on May 10 & given 500 mg of Pennicillin 4x/day for 10 days. On May 29 he was diagnosed w strep C again & given 300 mg Clindamycin 3x/day for 10 days. On June 18 he was diagnosed w strep C again & given 300 mg of Cefdinir 2x/day for 10 days. On July 3 he was diagnosed w strep C again & given 875 mg Augmentin 2x/day for 10 days. Each time he was cultured & each time responded positively immediately to medicine.
She took a culture and found strep B, which has nothing to do with Strep A that creates strep throat. She said she could give me antibiotics to make it go away but then I would get a yeast infeciton from the antibiotics and then we'd have to use another cream etc. She said just to let it ride it's course. Now it's been three and ahalf weeks and it's better but not all healed. Does anyone have any ideas about treating this or preventing this?
I went to the er three days later and got a rapid test done and it was positive for strep throat. I was put on z pack for 6 days. The initial symptoms of chills and mild fever and green stool went away within two days. But I still continued to feel ill like fatigued. And my swollen node was still swollen. I went back to the er after finishing the zpack and they put me on 600 mg a day of clyndamycin. I felt really good the first day on it like i was better.
I also had pain in my abdomen. I went to the er three days later and got a rapid test done and it was positive for strep throat. I was put on z pack for 6 days. usually it's strep throat but since you've been on antibiotics, hard to tell which is why being seen is a good idea. no real reason to think oral herpes.
Hi, I had something similar. Had strep throat in November and was on 4 different antibiotics. Clindamycin was the last one that made my stomach feel like it was on fire. Went to 2 different ENT's and the first one said it was acid reflux. Tried Protonix for 8 weeks and it only helped the effects on my stomach from the clindamycin. It didn't help the feeling in my throat.
Now, it is three days since I took my last dose of this latest antibiotic for an alleged strep throat, and my throat feels sore again. I feel sick again.....like another slow progression of something. What could he be missing? I've never been sick so many times in one year, let alone sequentially. I did mention that to my doc when I was being diagnosed for the strep throat to which he said that it is normal to be sick 3 - 4 times a year. What might be going on with me?

On the first day, he had some symptoms so we brought him to see a Doctor. He got tested for Strep Throat but the test came back negative. A few days later, other symptoms were appearing so we go back to the Doctor and this time they test him again for Strep Throat and Mono. Both tests were negative. Then the next day, he was in such pain and the fever was higher so we go to another Hospital (Emergency) and this Doctor does more tests (Strep, Mono and I think other tests too).
Again, I followed the instructions to the letter, the pain went away in 2 days, and I am now finished the clindamycin. It has been 4 days since I finished the clindamycin and I still feel good so I assume that my sore throat will stay away. So here is my question: What caused my infection if the strep tests came back negative both times? Why did the pain clear up so quickly after beginning the penicillin but then returned just as quickly after finishing it both times?
Three positive strep throat cultures from 1/2006 to 2/2007. No positive strep test since 2/2007. His ASO titer has been between 800 and 1010 range for the last 2 years (last week's 1000). He has taken a multitude of oral antibiotics --Amoxil 875 Mg 2x day for 14 days, to straight penicillin, Rifampin 300 Mg 2x day for 10 days, Clindamycin. Nothing seems to rid him of these nodules or lower his ASO titer. Overall crummy feeling most of the time.
If you had strep throat you wouldn't have an ear infection usually. It can happen but isn't usually the way it presents. Do you have a high fever? Pus in the throat, or rash?
My doctor was hoping the allergist would help guide us for future treatments. I am fearful for any infection like strep throat, ear or skin infections, we have run out of options.
Because of the timing, naturally I started to think of my encounter of a few days before. So I went to the doctor. He looked down my throat, said it looked like strep, took a swab, and gave me an antibiotic. Within a day of the antibiotic treatment, all of the symptoms except the sore throat were gone and after another day even the sore throat was gone. Today the swab results came back as "negative".

Five days later got a slight fever and sore throat and tested positive for strep. Started amoxicillian. Two days after that, skin on fingers and face peeled a bit, further making us think that it was strep all along, and he just wasn't on the first antibiotic long enough to kill it. Question is - his lymph nodes have been swollen (not painful) this entire time. Is that ok? And when should they go down?
A week later I went to the ER, and the doctor did not to a culture for strep but just by looking concluded that I had strep throat due to white nasty things on my throat. She gave me a RX for clindamycin 300mg 4 x a day for 10 days. During most of the 10 days, I had night sweats, direaha, fever for about 4 days and same symtoms as before were present.
The lumps might be a bacterial infection in your skin, similar to an infection like strep throat. I had those exact symptoms in college, and now have scars from it going untreated. The regular family Dr. gave me a topical liquid antibotic called Clindamycin-they were gone in like 2 weeks. The medicine does not stink, or burn, or leave a film on your skin. Hope this is your solution.
First, some context.... In May/June of this past year, I developed a lump on my jaw bone. Thinking that it was a problem with a tooth (maybe an impacted wisdom tooth?) I went to the dentist. At this point the lump was maybe not quite the size of a pea. I went to the dentist and they had no same-day appointments, and that if I was worried about the lump that I should go to the ER.
There are ticks that he may have been exposed to in the summer time near our home in the woods. As far as the cultures, his strep throat swabs were showing pos. results and that is a bacterial infection that the antibiotics were supposed to be treating. Now,told that blood test results show that he hasn't had strep and that he must just be a carrier. So....what type of infection have we been treating over and over and over again??
Just from time to time I felt unpleasant smell from it even with taking a shower every day. After like 10 days my throat became very sore and inflaminated for 2 days and then it was better, but still sore, nothing else, no fever, no running nose or anything. My mouth isn't sore only where the throat begins, it's barely visible its red and sore.
