Common Questions and Answers about Clindamycin oral dose

Avatar f tn Patients generally tolerate the one-dose regimen well. For oral infections or abscesses, the dose is 150 milligrams to 300 milligrams every 6 to 8 hours. It should be taken for at least 5 to 7 days. I am curious you say you have had cirrhosis of the liver since you were born? That sounds kinda unusual to me. Are you under the care of a hepatologist at a liver transplant center? Do you have symptoms of cirrhosis like swollen stomach or esophageal varicies?
Avatar n tn I had missed one dose of the clindamycin. The er doctor gave me again clindamycin via iv. My face swelled up again but started pussing at my gums after a while. She told me to keep taking it despite the swelling and sent me home with a follow up oral surgeon. I didn't take it all night and my face had gone down to half the size by morning! It felt so much better and lighter. I couldnt get a hold of my dentist or the oral surgeon to ask their opinion on continuing with this antibiotic.
Avatar f tn It seems a reasonable dose at 1350 mg per day (45o mg per dose x 3 times a day). But also the dosing instructions say, _______ Children weighing 10 kilograms (kg) or more—Dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your doctor. The dose is usually 8 to 16 milligrams (mg) per kilogram (kg) of body weight per day, divided into 3 or 4 equal doses. For more severe infections, the dose is usually 16 to 25 mg per kg of body weight per day, divided into 3 or 4 equal doses.

Avatar f tn My eight year old is allergic to amoxicillin, zithromax, clindamycin, and cefzil. We have seen an allergist, and he said there are no tests for antibiotics and that "we have a problem." Can someone please guide me in what to do next? My doctor was hoping the allergist would help guide us for future treatments. I am fearful for any infection like strep throat, ear or skin infections, we have run out of options.
Avatar n tn has given me 10 days of clindamycin to be taken 3 times a day at a dose of 450 mgs. this is fine, i can take clindamycin with no ill effects. HOWEVER, i have read that this drug is not commonly used to treat std's as there are so many better options. Is clindamycin going to work??? Thanks.
Avatar n tn Clindamycin side effects diarrhea that is watery or bloody; fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms, sores in your mouth and throat A side effect is usually regarded as an undesirable secondary effect which occurs in addition to the desired therapeutic effect of a drug or medication. Side effects may vary for each individual depending on the person's disease state, age, weight, gender, ethnicity and general health. dear, drug side effect shows at theraputic dose not in doctors mistake.
Avatar n tn s advised that you go to see your dentist to switch antibiotics. In my experience, clindamycin 150-450mg/dose,#1Q.I.D. for a week.plus metronidazole 250mg,#1Q.I.D.generally clears up dry socket in 3 days. However, smoking is a signifacant contributing factor to dry socket.
Avatar n tn I was taken z pack antibiotics for 5 days but still felt sick. So I was given clindamycin which worked I felt better after two days. The problem is on the second day at night when i took my second dose of the day an hour later my tongue started bleeding for no reason and looked irritated. Avatar f tn I took a double dose (600mg) of clindamycin as I missed a dose. I am experiencing severe pain from my chest through to my back. It feels like spasms and is difficult to breath. I normally take nexium on a daily basis; however I missed my dose of that too. I did take my nexium but I have felt absolutely no relief whatsoever. Any suggestions other than take my medicine as prescribed and don't double up dosage. I am absolutely miserable.
Avatar m tn About 5 weeks ago I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed, and the oral surgeon prescribed me Clindamycin to prevent infection. A day or two after I finished my prescription I noticed that I wiped up a little blood on the toilet paper after going to the bathroom. I looked it up on the internet, and it said blood from the rectum could possibly be due to antibiotics, so I thought no big deal. I was also taking Ibuprofin and Vicodin for pain during the antibiotics.
Avatar f tn I and my husband received IV continous infusion Clindamycin treatment times 7 days and the followup testing showed we were both positive with clamydia. I still have pain in my right kidney that I usually have with chronic UTI. I am taking Cipro now for E. facelis but infection will not go away. It is too the point I don't want to have intercourse with my husband. Also did two months of oral macrobid and clarithomycin both I and my husband. Don't know what to do please advise.
Avatar f tn After amoxicillin and endo retreating tooth, it felt better and fever gone, but 2 days after ending antibiotics, infection returned with intensity, spread along jawline into nearby tooth, causing that tooth to then also need a root canal. I was put back on the same dose of amoxicillin, then tried clindamycin for a few days, but infection continued to spread - a large red hot lump (tablespoon sized) formed on my jawline, just under the 2 affected teeth.
Avatar f tn m not sure if the spots on the back of my throat are attributed to mild acid reflux, stress, antibiotics (I was taking Clindamycin vaginally for BV during the week i slept with the guy), or oral gonorrhea, or ARS.
Avatar n tn ve never had a tooth extraction while having abscessing going on, and she said it was fine. Tooth was pulled and was sent home with an Rx of Clindamycin (150mg), 4xday. Infection got worse. Dentist, then used a lazer to open and drain the infected area. Several shots (7-8) of novacaine was needed to numb the area. After procedure, my mouth hurt and burned the worst that I've ever experienced before. The infection is still there.
Avatar n tn Hi there, You have what is called thrush in your mouth. You can go to your general practicioner for this. Basically it's a yeast infection in your mouth from too much antibiotics. An oral dose of Diflucan or any other oral meds to treat yeast infections will work.
Avatar f tn I went to the dentist on the 1st who sent me to an oral surgeon and percribed me 12 Tylenol #3 and amoxicillin. Finished the amoxicillin and saw the oral surgeon on the 8th. I have extractions scheduled for the 23rd but I still have an abscessed tooth. I had to go back to my dentist on the 15th for her to tell me that she wouldn't give me another dose of antibiotics and to take tylenol (which ive practically been living off of the last few weeks) for the pain. Which doesn't help.
Avatar f tn m using the clindamycin lotion twice daily, but progress has sort of plateaued. The clindamycin will get it to the point where it forms some new skin over the top but then starts to crack and peel again, and I'm back to square one. I've tried every lip balm, at the doctor's suggestion I tried a week of nothing but Vaseline, I've tried days of absolutely nothing, but it just stays every time.
Avatar m tn ) On the other hand, would I endanger my health by taking the Clindamycin after so many other recent antibiotic courses (including 16 days of Clindamycin in September)?

Avatar m tn I had some teeth extracted and had a bit of discomfort a few days after. I am allergic to Penicillin, so my oral surgeon prescribed Clindamycin 150mg 4 times daily, for 7 days.(November 5th ) Mouth pain went away and about the first week of December (one month later) and up to this date, i have lose stools, not quite diarreha but they are soft and accompanied by mucous like substance. Stress has always been a big part of my life, but never a problem so i am ruling that out.
Avatar f tn My dentist uncovered the implant and did a bone graft over the top of the implant where the infection had eaten the bone away. He soaked it in clindamycin and I took clindamycin orally afterwards. Six weeks after that, I started feeling bad again. My dentist put me on another round of clindamycin coupled with metronidazole. A 3D CONE x-ray showed that there was infection behind the top of the implant. This time, I had an oral surgeon uncover the implant and clean it out.
Avatar f tn The main 2 antibiotics dentists like in the US are Amoxicillin and Clindamycin. However, if Cipro has worked for you in the past, there is no reason your dentist can't prescribe that for you instead (other than drug interactions if you are taking other meds). Talk to your dentist about it. Clindamycin is a great antibiotic, but its usually better for more severe infections and it does tend to cause a lot of GI problems. Azithromycin is also good if Clindamycin makes you that sick.
