Avatar n tn Hi, I am on clindamycin 300mg for a tooth abscess. The dentist drilled a hole in the tooth for drainage. The swelling seems to be going down, but very slowly. Is this typically a slow process?
Avatar n tn I also wanted to add that I don't see any pus sack on my gums or cheek but there is some white stuff that looks like it could be an abscess inbetween my tooth and gums. The dentist hasn't seen me since my cheek swelled up and won't beable to until the 10th. thanks, again.
Avatar n tn I have a severe abscess tooth on the lower left side of my mouth. I have been to the ER and the dentist. I'm on antibiotics (clindamycin) 600mg ibuprofen and hydrocodone for pain. My dentist scheduled me an appointment to have the tooth pulled next Friday but since taking the antibiotics the whole left side of my face is extremely swollen my lips are severely swollen to the point I can't eat can barely drink and can't sleep.
Avatar n tn hello my dentist preceibed clindamycin for a tooth infection. a year ago i had root canal done on #12 and cap. the dentist didnt take all the decay out so now it has to be extracted and get a bridge. i am alergic too baxin, ceftin, augmentin, bactrim, levaquin, well she said i shouldnt be allergic to clindamycin, but i read the phamplet that came wth it and it talked about fatal reactions from diahrea.
5635541 tn?1371396878 Hi. I have an abscess that became infected in my lower right side, tooth before molar. Friday Moe ing I awoke to whole lower jaw swollen n numb. I have no insurnace n money is tight. Went to er anyays due to pain. Because of swelling he just looked at me n gave me 500 mg of amoxicillin and 800 mg of ibuprofren. Didn't check anything n was rushed out. Stated regime of amox Friday evening because I passed out from the pain earlier in day. Went to a dentist on sat.
Avatar m tn I reported it to her office and she called back and gave me a prescription for vicodin and clindamycin and ask that I come in after taking 4 clindamycin capsules 1 hour before an early next week appointment. She then would remove my bridge again and revisit old root canals on both teeth under the bridge and see if there was infection and have to do something (like a new root canal?) and if she had to replace the bridge the total bill would be about $5000.
1399266 tn?1280640704 It is a tough situation. Antibiotics are for bacterial infections so unless the abscess is a secondary diagnosis to a bacterial infection, the antibiotics won't make it go away. On the other hand, if she reacts to anesthesia, putting her under to pull the tooth would be a problem. I would suggest further discussion with your vet so that fully understand the risks and benefits of both courses of action.
Avatar f tn I called the dentist and was told I had an abscess. She prescribed me 150mg clindamycin over ten days for the infection and referred me to an endodontist. The endodontist retreated the root canal a couple weeks later. A few hours after the retreated root canal became horribly painful and I noticed some swelling. The swelling continued to intensify and spread to my cheek. I called my endodontist and he prescribed me amoxicillin (500mg).
Avatar f tn The Dr can't get me in for three weeks, so my regular dentist gave me clindamycin 300MG 3X a day. I have been taking it for four days. Since then my check has gone from no swelling to so swollen I can hardly open my mouth. The pain at the site of the tooth is gone but there is still a lot of pressure above the tooth (#14). What do you think may be going on? Thanks in advance for your view & ideas.
Avatar m tn Hello, A tooth abscess is a complication of tooth decay. There is sharp shooting pain when chewing. Antibiotics and warm salt-water rinses may be soothing. Over-the-counter pain relievers may relieve the toothache and fever. Prompt treatment can save the tooth and a root canal may be recommended in an attempt to save the tooth. Untreated abscesses may get worse and can lead to life-threatening complications.

1839466 tn?1432596684 Last week, i ended up having my first encounter with a abscess tooth. It was and has been horrible. Since then, I have been put on Advil, Hydrocodon-acetanino, and clindamycin. I've also seen my dentist who started a root canal on the tooth but just drilled a whole, did some drainage, not all, and left a sponge in it so it can fully drain. I'm supposed to go back next week to complete the full root canal.
Avatar n tn I've had an abscess on my gum area that started in my tooth for about a week. I've been on antibiotics (clindamycin 150 MG) for 5 days with painkillers. I've been swollen the entire time and have knot on my jaw. The dentist wont lance it because it hasn't come to a head yet. So, do I go to urgent care, or wait it out to see if it will ever come to a head? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Starting at noon on Monday I began taking 300mg of clindamycin every 6 hours for this and a good bit of the swelling has gone as well as most of the pain. However I still have this roughly golf ball sized knot in my cheek that is located right about where it presses against the offending tooth gum line. I can't open my mouth all that far because of it and it hurts a good bit off and on.
Avatar n tn Amoxicillin may be fine, but you may need something like clindamycin instead. Also, it's very important that a FULL dose is taken for dental infections. Not to do so will only breed yourself a stronger bacteria in the future that can do more damage. Dental abscess rarely go away without some kind of eventual medical intervention. GOOD LUCK and please let us know how you do.
Avatar n tn Once the abscess is cleared up, I am supposed to get a root canal on this tooth. Do you have any advice on my best course of action for a solution? Thank you.
Avatar n tn How large is the abscess? Is it visible from the outside (enlarged cheek etc.?) You can try going to ER, but usually in such cases they may refer you back to the dentist. I would suggest calling your dentist and asking for an emergency appointment. Another thing you mentioned that a day of one antibiotic and a day on another. Were these antibiotics prescribed to you? I find it odd that you were only on either of the medications just one day.
Avatar f tn He also began the root canal but was unable to finish as the infection had gotten so thick in two days that it wouldnt drain even with lancing my gum above the tooth. He put me on clindamycin and set up for me to come back in 12 days. I literaaly live on pain medicine & motrin every 4 hours for cheek on the left side I have a small brown dot inside on my cheek. I go back to the endodontist in 2 days.
Avatar n tn Hi, Any bacterial infection can lead to collection of pus in the tooth can cause tooth abscess. A tooth infection should be treated appropriately to prevent spread of infection. The usually preferred antibiotics are amoxicillin, clindamycin, penicillins and metrogyl.Azithromycin may raise serum methadone levels and/or increase the effects of methadone. It is advisable to contact a local health care provider. Do write to us again. Best luck and regards!
Avatar f tn I had an abscessed tooth and was put on clindamycin. That did not help and was switched to amoxicillin, followed by a root canal. The root canal was a week ago but the lump from the abscess is still on my gum. Is this normal? I was not put on antibiotics after the root canal but I took the last 2 amox. From the prescrip I had been given the week before.
Avatar m tn They say that they don't have the proper tools to drain abscesses, that they can make the infection worse. for the third time in a month, the abscess is back! I can't believe it! I did a round of Keflex, a 6 day round of amoxicillin, and this last time, a 6 day round of clindamycin (not sure if I spelled that right but I'm sure you know what I mean). The thing that irritates me the most is that I've been responsible, taking the prescriptions exactly as prescribed, not a single missed dose!
Avatar f tn Dentist said it should not have caused major tooth ache but set aug 2 for repair. woke up monday 6/25 with gum below tooth swollen..called dentist. I apparently had told them funny reaction to amoxicillian but could take they ordered augmentin.(I should write 72 memory loss) One Augmentin pill & I threw up for 12 hours finishing at 3 AM this morning! Suppositories Fam Dr called in helped...especially when Pharmacist said I could take every 2 hrs...saved me.
Avatar f tn I recently went to the dentist for a broken decaying tooth. the dentist pulled my tooth upper molar. The dentist didn't give anything. went back three days later due to the pain. He then gave me a prescription for amoxicillin and percocets, its now five days later and still same pain. I been on the antibiotics for this is now my second day taking them. Any idea on when this pain should stop.
12785304 tn?1427244178 Then only symptoms I was experiencing were horrible pain and tender to touch on cracked open tooth (which has been this way for a year) An X-Ray was taken and showed a lot of infection. I was prescribed clindamycin. I took my first one, and about 5 hours later my jaw was swollen and pain was intensified. I called the doctor the next day and she switched me to penicillin. I took my first one today. I currently have no pain and I'm only take the antibiotic and 4 ibuprofen every 4 hours.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with an abscessed tooth for a week now. Started with penicillin vk 500mg and was switched to clindamycin 300mg 4x day. abscess surfaced and drained on its own two days ago and I am still in a lot of pain and have swelling and numbness in my face/nerve. I cannot get in for removal until the 28th of July. Areas under my jaw and along my bottom right side of my face from chin to ear has shooting pain. Is the infection spreading? What should I do?
