t get me in for three weeks, so my regular dentist gave me Clindamycin 300MG 3X a day. I have been taking it for four days. Since then my check has gone from no swelling to so swollen I can hardly open my mouth. The pain at the site of the tooth is gone but there is still a lot of pressure above the tooth (#14). What do you think may be going on? Thanks in advance for your view & ideas.
I had an abscessed tooth and was put on clindamycin. That did not help and was switched to amoxicillin, followed by a root canal. The root canal was a week ago but the lump from the abscess is still on my gum. Is this normal? I was not put on antibiotics after the root canal but I took the last 2 amox. From the prescrip I had been given the week before.
ve never had a tooth extraction while having abscessing going on, and she said it was fine. Tooth was pulled and was sent home with an Rx of Clindamycin (150mg), 4xday. Infection got worse. Dentist, then used a lazer to open and drain the infected area. Several shots (7-8) of novacaine was needed to numb the area. After procedure, my mouth hurt and burned the worst that I've ever experienced before. The infection is still there.
I went to my regular dentist on 1/13/06 and xrays showed a large abscess in tooth #10, as well as a smaller abscess in tooth #20. On 1/17/06 I had a RCT done on tooth #10, as well as an incision in the roof of my mouth behind that tooth to help extract the infection. On 1/19/06, I had a RCT done on tooth #20, with one 0.05mm post placed. I have been on Antibiotics since 1/13/06, taking Penicillin VK 500mg QID, so I'm now on my Eighth day of antibiotics.

Any bacterial infection can lead to collection of pus in the tooth can cause tooth abscess. A tooth infection should be treated appropriately to prevent spread of infection. The usually preferred antibiotics are amoxicillin, clindamycin, penicillins and metrogyl.Azithromycin may raise serum methadone levels and/or increase the effects of methadone. an infection has entered that tooth and caused an abscess. the pressure from the abscess has pushed the infection down into soft tissue and most likely infected the saliva glands (thus the swollen cheek) ibuprofen will help pain and some inflamation but the infection MUST be treated with antibiotics or it could spread to your neck, throat, or bloodstream and become life threatening. antibiotics are the only thing that will help these infections.
both eyes were slightly swollen small blistery rash. He gave me clindamycin for 10 days. It helped. A month later went to doctor eyes itchy & swollen with little blisters, little blisters on palms also. Gave me script for hydrocortisone. To make a long story short, I have been to doctors 7 times since tooth extraction for aches face, jaw, neck, ears clogging, upper left arm aching, swollen glands under chin, as well as two chest colds, and also diagnosed with sinusitis.
But now my fear is starting another job and then having to turn around and take off to have this work done, ugh! I hear clindamycin is better at fighting tooth infections so hopefully if I start taking it the infection will clear up and will stay away longer giving me time to get another insurance or will it flare back up with a vengeance?
I went to ER and they gave me IV antibiotics and a script for Amoxicilian, during the other RCT and extraction treatments I was given Clindamycin. I visited my oral surgeon and he did a panarama xray and didnt see anything out of the ordinary with the teeth. He suggisted I visit my entodonist to verify I dont have a cracked root ot tooth. He couldnt say why I had swelling in my cheek.
On Jan 10 I had a titanium post inserted into my # 30, a previous root canal tooth (from several years ago). The next day I was in pain, and the pain continued to worsen, including some pretty severe jaw pain. The dentist adjusted the bite, then assumed it was infection, so put me on 10 day penicillin. Nearing the end of that, I developed swelling on the outside gum, the dentist put me on 7 day clindamycin.
I came across this post while searching for a remedy for my tooth ache. I hope all is well with you now. Your post is almost four years old. I took ibuprofen 3 caplets of 220 mg and cephalexin 500 mg and got some relief after an hour. I also bit into half a clove of garlic with my hurting tooth. I slowly/very gently chewed on it. It is sort of hot and gives a burning sensation but it helps.
Amoxicillin 500mg 2x/day)for 2wks now.I am also taking 600mg of Ibuprofen 2x/day for 2 wks.I developed a large abscess on the left side of the roof of my mouth. I had to go BACK to the dentist 2days ago. She put a hole in the abscess to drain it.She also prescribed 50mg of demerol 2x/day..I do not wish to continue to take the very strong pain meds (as I am a teacher with a 80min/day commute &was advised not to supervise children OR drive while on this medication).
How large is the abscess? Is it visible from the outside (enlarged cheek etc.?)
You can try going to ER, but usually in such cases they may refer you back to the dentist. I would suggest calling your dentist and asking for an emergency appointment.
Another thing you mentioned that a day of one antibiotic and a day on another. Were these antibiotics prescribed to you? I find it odd that you were only on either of the medications just one day.
May 15 I developed an abscess. They can't get me in to get the 2 teeth pulled until June 25th. The next day, my cheek was the size of a baseball and the meds weren't helping. I went to th ER. Dr numbed it, cut a slit in it, gave me dilaudid &zophran, &sent me home with vicodin. RELIEF!
June 3 it was back. I went to the dentist June 5. He couldn't see me. They called in 825mg amoxicillin 2x a day &the weakest dose of vicodin.
I had a root canal done on tooth # 28 five days ago. I had no pain prior to root canal , but my dentist said I had a large abscess found on xray that needed to be root canaled before I left to go out of the country. Sine the root canal I have had severe pain 10+ and a lot of facial swelling. After calling my endontontist 3 days in a row he had me come in to his office and determined my bite was offf and I was hitting the root canal tooth first.
metronidazole is effective for periodontal pathogens. Clindamycin +metronidazole is a common prescription for jaw bone infection, including post lower 3 molar extraction medication.
No such discomfort with pressure applied to the top of the tooth or to the tongue side of the tooth. I have for the most part been able to eat and drink normally. Although I haven’t chewed on that side of my mouth from that point on. And honestly haven’t done so since Sept 2008.
I did floss on Sept 28th and am curious if that loosen the crown. I could not floss once I notice the pain. I’m not a regular flosser… never have been.
Not all antibiotics work well for everything. Usually for a tooth abscess, we prescribe amoxicillan or clindamycin. Also, be careful with how much ibuprofen you take! It can be hell on your kidneys! I'm afraid it may be time for a root canal or an extraction on that tooth. With that much trauma, it just may have finally had enough. There are vitality tests that your dds can do to see just how much life that tooth has left.
