Hi, I am on clindamycin 300mg for a tooth abscess. The dentist drilled a hole in the tooth for drainage. The swelling seems to be going down, but very slowly. Is this typically a slow process?
I also wanted to add that I don't see any pus sack on my gums or cheek but there is some white stuff that looks like it could be an abscess inbetween my tooth and gums. The dentist hasn't seen me since my cheek swelled up and won't beable to until the 10th. thanks, again.
hello my dentist preceibed clindamycin for a tooth infection. a year ago i had root canal done on #12 and cap. the dentist didnt take all the decay out so now it has to be extracted and get a bridge. i am alergic too baxin, ceftin, augmentin, bactrim, levaquin, well she said i shouldnt be allergic to clindamycin, but i read the phamplet that came wth it and it talked about fatal reactions from diahrea.
I am on day three of Clindamycin hcl for a tooth abscess. My pain level is still bad. Does this mean it is not working?
Hi. I have an abscess that became infected in my lower right side, tooth before molar. Friday Moe ing I awoke to whole lower jaw swollen n numb. I have no insurnace n money is tight. Went to er anyays due to pain. Because of swelling he just looked at me n gave me 500 mg of amoxicillin and 800 mg of ibuprofren. Didn't check anything n was rushed out. Stated regime of amox Friday evening because I passed out from the pain earlier in day. Went to a dentist on sat.
I reported it to her office and she called back and gave me a prescription for vicodin and clindamycin and ask that I come in after taking 4 Clindamycin capsules 1 hour before an early next week appointment. She then would remove my bridge again and revisit old root canals on both teeth under the bridge and see if there was infection and have to do something (like a new root canal?) and if she had to replace the bridge the total bill would be about $5000.
It is a tough situation. Antibiotics are for bacterial infections so unless the abscess is a secondary diagnosis to a bacterial infection, the antibiotics won't make it go away. On the other hand, if she reacts to anesthesia, putting her under to pull the tooth would be a problem. I would suggest further discussion with your vet so that fully understand the risks and benefits of both courses of action.
I called the dentist and was told I had an abscess. She prescribed me 150mg Clindamycin over ten days for the infection and referred me to an endodontist. The endodontist retreated the root canal a couple weeks later. A few hours after the retreated root canal became horribly painful and I noticed some swelling. The swelling continued to intensify and spread to my cheek. I called my endodontist and he prescribed me amoxicillin (500mg).
The Dr can't get me in for three weeks, so my regular dentist gave me Clindamycin 300MG 3X a day. I have been taking it for four days. Since then my check has gone from no swelling to so swollen I can hardly open my mouth. The pain at the site of the tooth is gone but there is still a lot of pressure above the tooth (#14). What do you think may be going on? Thanks in advance for your view & ideas.
Hello, A tooth abscess is a complication of tooth decay. There is sharp shooting pain when chewing. Antibiotics and warm salt-water rinses may be soothing. Over-the-counter pain relievers may relieve the toothache and fever. Prompt treatment can save the tooth and a root canal may be recommended in an attempt to save the tooth. Untreated abscesses may get worse and can lead to life-threatening complications.

Last week, i ended up having my first encounter with a abscess tooth. It was and has been horrible. Since then, I have been put on Advil, Hydrocodon-acetanino, and Clindamycin. I've also seen my dentist who started a root canal on the tooth but just drilled a whole, did some drainage, not all, and left a sponge in it so it can fully drain. I'm supposed to go back next week to complete the full root canal.
I've had an abscess on my gum area that started in my tooth for about a week. I've been on antibiotics (clindamycin 150 MG) for 5 days with painkillers. I've been swollen the entire time and have knot on my jaw. The dentist wont lance it because it hasn't come to a head yet. So, do I go to urgent care, or wait it out to see if it will ever come to a head? Thanks!
Amoxicillin may be fine, but you may need something like clindamycin instead. Also, it's very important that a FULL dose is taken for dental infections. Not to do so will only breed yourself a stronger bacteria in the future that can do more damage. Dental abscess rarely go away without some kind of eventual medical intervention. GOOD LUCK and please let us know how you do.
Starting at noon on Monday I began taking 300mg of clindamycin every 6 hours for this and a good bit of the swelling has gone as well as most of the pain. However I still have this roughly golf ball sized knot in my cheek that is located right about where it presses against the offending tooth gum line. I can't open my mouth all that far because of it and it hurts a good bit off and on.
Once the abscess is cleared up, I am supposed to get a root canal on this tooth. Do you have any advice on my best course of action for a solution? Thank you.
How large is the abscess? Is it visible from the outside (enlarged cheek etc.?) You can try going to ER, but usually in such cases they may refer you back to the dentist. I would suggest calling your dentist and asking for an emergency appointment. Another thing you mentioned that a day of one antibiotic and a day on another. Were these antibiotics prescribed to you? I find it odd that you were only on either of the medications just one day.
Hi, Any bacterial infection can lead to collection of pus in the tooth can cause tooth abscess. A tooth infection should be treated appropriately to prevent spread of infection. The usually preferred antibiotics are amoxicillin, clindamycin, penicillins and metrogyl.Azithromycin may raise serum methadone levels and/or increase the effects of methadone. It is advisable to contact a local health care provider. Do write to us again. Best luck and regards!
I had an abscessed tooth and was put on clindamycin. That did not help and was switched to amoxicillin, followed by a root canal. The root canal was a week ago but the lump from the abscess is still on my gum. Is this normal? I was not put on antibiotics after the root canal but I took the last 2 amox. From the prescrip I had been given the week before.
They say that they don't have the proper tools to drain abscesses, that they can make the infection worse. For the third time in a month, the abscess is back! I can't believe it! I did a round of Keflex, a 6 day round of amoxicillin, and this last time, a 6 day round of clindamycin (not sure if I spelled that right but I'm sure you know what I mean). The thing that irritates me the most is that I've been responsible, taking the prescriptions exactly as prescribed, not a single missed dose!
Dentist said it should not have caused major tooth ache but set aug 2 for repair. woke up monday 6/25 with gum below tooth swollen..called dentist. I apparently had told them funny reaction to amoxicillian but could take augmentin..so they ordered augmentin.(I should write down..at 72 memory loss) One Augmentin pill & I threw up for 12 hours finishing at 3 AM this morning! Suppositories Fam Dr called in helped...especially when Pharmacist said I could take every 2 hrs...saved me.
Blood cultures came up negative for everything. I gave a stool sample which was negative for leukocytes, C-DIFF, Salmonella, and bacteria.Pap Smear showed no infectious bacteria, no chlamidia, no gonnorhea, no trichamonis, and no yeast. Normal pap smear. No Pelvic Inflammatory disease and all palpable organs were normal. TB test which came back negative. My fever ranges from 99.1-99.9. Then, I had a single sharp pain go through my rear bottom molar on the right side. It's not a wisdom tooth.
dentist took X-ray which was negative (i guess meant negative for abscess) and said tooth is sensitive and I could either 1) look into root canal or 2) maybe try sensodine to see if sensitivity clears up or 3) maybe switch out the white filling for a silver filling - maybe the white filling is irratating the nerve. i tried the sensodine and pain went away october, 2008 - tooth still feels good, no sensitivity and had my routine dental checkup. thurs Nov.
I told her that I've never had a tooth extraction while having abscessing going on, and she said it was fine. Tooth was pulled and was sent home with an Rx of Clindamycin (150mg), 4xday. Infection got worse. Dentist, then used a lazer to open and drain the infected area. Several shots (7-8) of novacaine was needed to numb the area. After procedure, my mouth hurt and burned the worst that I've ever experienced before. The infection is still there.
Tylenol 3 was on the list but I ended up not needing it. As for the dentist I would blow there phone up. The abscess is full of infection so it needs to be taken care of ASAP. Regardless of how far pregnant along you are they can atleast drain it.
Is it okay to use clarithromycin for an infection in the root of my tooth (an abcess). Will it work? I was given a prescription (500mg -20) from someone that hadn't been used yet and i've only taken 2 because it leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. If it is useful for my infection then I will suffer the taste & nausea and continue on with my 3rd dose.
