Thank you so much for your response. May I also ask what length of time would I take the Biaxin? And is there any home treatment, Like garlic pills etc. that would help augment healing? ( since Biaxin is not considered the best treatment.) Although I'm stuck with that. And frankly, I was on the Clindamycin for weeks and that didn't get rid of the infection, so maybe a broad spectrum antibiotic will work for me. I sure hope so. thank you again for your advice.
Thank you for responding to my question. It has been 12 days since I had root canal on #14. Took Cipro for 7 days. I'm still feeling lpain/discomfort on #14 and try not to chew on that side of mouth. How long does it for root canal to heal? Can and do root canal fail? What are symptoms of failed root canal. At the time of root canal Endodonist put temporary filled on crown. I have appoint with regular dentist for permanent filling in a week.
I was prescribed a ten day course of clindamycin for a gum infection, which it took care of. Six weeks later I developed severe diarrhea with terrible gut pain and fever. Had blood and mucous in stools an perhaps some intestinal lining. I lost 10 lbs and was very weak and the thought of food made me feel sick.. Emergency room diagnosed clostridium difficile after stool samples and CAT scan. I was put on a 14 day, 4x/day course of oral solution vancomycin which solved the problem.
A tooth infection should be treated appropriately to prevent spread of infection. The usually preferred antibiotics are amoxicillin, clindamycin, penicillins and metrogyl.Azithromycin may raise serum methadone levels and/or increase the effects of methadone. Prior to taking the Clindamycin, I had taken Bactrim for an infection and Augumentin. When the lump started I had taken some Augumentin for about a week. The lump has now been there a total of almost 3 weeks. When I went to the dentist on Wed. he told me I was now resistant to both of the prior antibiotics and he was giving me the Clindamycin now. Every time after I take the med. my mouth feels dry and I get an awful taste in my mouth. He also gave me 600 mg of Ibprofun and Tylonel 3.
It is about the size of ping pong ball and I have been on clindamycin for 2 weeks without good results. Doctor has me on Azithromycin for 3 days now. The swelling and pain is still with me and I'm going crazy! What should I do? Thank you for your help!
My question is I seem to have an absessed tooth I was perscribed clindamycin for it but was told to take 12 pills daily each being 150 mg does this seem normal? I am calling my doctor tomorrow to see what she thinks, just kinda wondered if anyone else has had this issue.
s swollen, and it got worse very quickly, now my mouth is in throbbing pain and it hurts to move my face/mouth/lips. My doctor prescribed me 300mg clindamycin. How long until my pain goes away?!? Took my first (double) dose an hour ago and I'm in so much pain still, I'm sweating and can't think of anything else!!! Please help!!! Any rule of thumb for how long it takes for the pain to subside?
i am being treated for possible infection of Chlamydia and gonorrhea. I understand its common to treat for both when one is suspected. My problem is that i don't handle antibiotics well. azithromycin is not an option for me. doxycycline is not great either.
So the dr. has given me 10 days of clindamycin to be taken 3 times a day at a dose of 450 mgs. this is fine, i can take clindamycin with no ill effects.
Due to my ongoing infections, my antibiotics were made stronger (from cephalexin to clindamycin). However, for the last couple of days, I no longer have tonsillitis, instead a swollen, white tongue that feels as if it has scratches all over it. When I try to eat or drink anything it burns. I have been on a liquid diet since the 12th, but even that is hard to stay on. Along with my tongue, my gums have been very sensitive as well. Please help! Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated!

I had my 2 lower Wisdom Teeth removed 30 August. Jaw has been swollen since but is slowly going down. The main problem is I can only open my jaw about 3/4 of an Inch. I have been taking Clindamycin for about a week now and I'm unsure if it's doing any good, I've also been doing the Warm Washrag on the jaw. Is this Normal, how much longer and any other suggestions is greatly appreciated.
05%(base), i also just started using Fougera Clindamycin Phosphate gel USP, 1%(equivalent to 1% clindamycin. i have been using the first one for past three month twice a day and it is almost having no affect. the area is increasing and i m afraid it will get bigger and it is. what should i do? any recommendations on what i should use to get rid of it? can you recommend any medicine/cream??

It's an abscess, take the antibiotics before it blows up on you. If it comes back you will probably lose the tooth. Rinsing your mouth with 50/50, 2% hydrogen peroxide once in awhile can prevent gum problems. Not every day, it kills all bacteria, good and bad, can cause thrush. Once a week to 10 days should do it. Let it soak on your teeth for 30 seconds to a minute and rinse. It can burn your mouth if you don't rinse.
I'm not a Dentist, just a crown and bridge technician.
My dentist uncovered the implant and did a bone graft over the top of the implant where the infection had eaten the bone away. He soaked it in clindamycin and I took clindamycin orally afterwards.
Six weeks after that, I started feeling bad again. My dentist put me on another round of clindamycin coupled with metronidazole. A 3D CONE x-ray showed that there was infection behind the top of the implant. This time, I had an oral surgeon uncover the implant and clean it out.
first immediately after the surgery and second starting 4 days ago.
My concern is that it's not getting better even with such strong antibiotic (two courses of the latter), but rather worse: the swelling to include my left cheek and a bit in my neck after so many days after the surgery.
I would appreciate any advice as to how to proceed. Almost two weeks now (12 days) after surgery now.

A root canal was done on #20 and a temp bridge put on again. Still was getting pain and burning around bridge area. Implant areas are fine. On clindamycin for 7 days. My solution yesterday was to remove the bridge and store it ina glass jar. Have been keeping mouth clean with mouthwash and brushing. Stumps look ugly but discomfort has decreased a great deal. I will discuss the above during my next follow up appointment. Thanks for the info.
I'm allergic to penicillin and sulfa. Dentist prescribed Clindamycin 150 mg for 10 days for infection in my tooth. Got hives, rash, swollen lips and extreme itching and blotches from head to toe. Was on vacation so stopped medication after 3 days of taking it. It is now 5 days taking benadryl and the hives and itching have not stopped. What is in the clindamycin that I may be allergic to?
I also have had a broken tooth for two years, which swells with infection every few months. Sometimes 6 months between. I finally got insurance, and went to a doctor, who ran blood tests, which showed prolactin is normal, and that I am anemic, but I eat plenty of iron. I also have very irregular periods. Ranging from 3-6 months between cycles. Nothing else looked odd in the blood tests he ordered. 5 levels were off, but all having to do with an iron-deficiency anemia.
I've taken Clindamycin and fluconazole to kill a yeast infection. But now my doctor tells me I might possibly get it back because antibiotics can cause yeast infections. I'm not even sure...
