1241045 tn?1268250883 My dog is a boxer and she constantly has ear infections. She shakes her head all the time. Short of cleaning her ears three times a day, what can I do about it? Can you put tubes in dogs ears like children? She also gets yeast in between her toes and is always licking them. And the smell is aweful! I was told it could be allergies, but the test for dogs is expensive. We have tried changing her diet and she still gets ear infections.
Avatar n tn I have seen too many ear infections be let go by people and the dogs wind up having to have surgery to remove the entire ear canal it's a shame! Look at earlier posts of mine for allergy suggestions too. Controlling and maintaining allergies is hard work but necessary for quality of life!
Avatar f tn My dentist uncovered the implant and did a bone graft over the top of the implant where the infection had eaten the bone away. He soaked it in clindamycin and I took clindamycin orally afterwards. Six weeks after that, I started feeling bad again. My dentist put me on another round of clindamycin coupled with metronidazole. A 3D CONE x-ray showed that there was infection behind the top of the implant. This time, I had an oral surgeon uncover the implant and clean it out.
Avatar f tn My daughter had a sore on the outside of her ear, was looked at for 2 min. in urgent care and prescribed clindamycin e150 mg pills....3 pills 3x per day (12 pills) she is 15 and 119 lbs. Was not diagnosed with ANYTHING. Now we have had a utility, yeast infection, her iron level is at 30, she has passed out over 5 times, cannot sleep has lost weight, major stomach pain etc. urgent care has said it was right meds and right dose. NO WAY!
Avatar f tn (if you have the stomach for it, that is). In the morning, poor peroxide into the ear. Hold the ear shut so it bubbles up inside. Then start removing the icky stuff out with a cotten ball. Then use q tips. You can go all the way down the ear canal and not worry about puncturing the ear drum. It's an L shaped ear canel, not like ours. Dig all that stuff out as much as you can. In the evening use alchohal and do the same thing.
5629636 tn?1371253040 I am heart broken over my dogs chronic ear infections. There has GOT to be something better that I can do to help her. She is absolutely miserable. We've done venison, bison, poultry, fish diets. I won't feed her anything beef because she's definitely allergic. We've given her prednisone, kentaconazole, used the antiseborrheic and cleansing solution, Surolan, Mometamax & Posatex. NOTHING works. My poor dog is miserable and I am in tears watching her go through this.
Avatar n tn You shouldn't treat yourself as it may be the wrong treatment. There are complications you can get from clindamycin also and it is not a good choice. If you have a viral infection you won't need antibiotics. If you had strep throat you wouldn't have an ear infection usually. It can happen but isn't usually the way it presents. Do you have a high fever? Pus in the throat, or rash?
Avatar f tn The best way to eliminate your dogs ear infections is with a culture and sensivity of the ear exudate which will reveal the exact cause and best medication to clear your dogs ear infection.
Avatar f tn My doctor was hoping the allergist would help guide us for future treatments. I am fearful for any infection like strep throat, ear or skin infections, we have run out of options.
Avatar m tn ) On the other hand, would I endanger my health by taking the Clindamycin after so many other recent antibiotic courses (including 16 days of Clindamycin in September)?
436837 tn?1293793226 Covering his ears will not help the situation.....They need air to breathe....If this is yeast infections, then even more so....Ear problems in dogs are normally food related....A low quality food full of grains could be the problem.... A rare infection that was never cleared up the first time, is possible also..... The best med there is for ALL kinds of ear problems is called, "Zymox".....Can be purchased online without a prescription....Safe to use, too!!!! Let us know.......
1100598 tn?1413127426 My Holistic Vet prescribes it for ear infections and/or Yeast Infections.......I have used it for years before he ever made mention of it...... Other things for you to do: Add Wet food for at least one meal a day.....Extra moisture will help keep toxins flushed from her system and is vital for healthy organ function......No dog should live on dry food alone.... Next: You need to add a good probiotic to her meals....
Avatar n tn There was a lady customer who heard me asking the clerk about ear infections. So in lieu of hearing me,, she said I use Oregano oil for my ear infections...so she explained how to use it. Let me say that this works! Take a coffee mug.. mix 50% / 50% of oregano oil and olive oil. heat it up in the microwave for about 20 seconds give or take.. touch it to make sure it is not too hot! take cotton balls and put them in the oil mixture.. make cotton balls soak up oil.
1429136 tn?1287209602 Oral antibiotics are given is the ear infection is deep seeded....Otherwise, ointment for the ear is given for infection or yeast...Liquid drops for the ear are given for mites.... None of these will clear up on their own.....Ear infections left untreated can cause an ear drum to rupture and deafness can occur...Plus, again the pain is excruciating!! Been there, done that. ;) Please, have him evaluated very soon before it gets worse......Check back in and let us know how he doing......
Avatar m tn I completely agree with everything skydnsr has said. Ear infections in dogs is very common, and almost always due to either mites or yeast infection and/or allergies of many kinds. The inner ears of a dog are fragile and susceptible to infection due to the close surface blood vessels. But the real question is, what is it that your dog has become allergic to (unless the reaction/inflammation has come from another dog or something else like due to diet).
626278 tn?1221946201 He says the alcohol helps cut through the was and dry the ears while the vinegar lowers the pH in the ear environment, making it more acidic and thus tougher for bacteria and yeast to gain a good foothold. DON'T use this solution if the ears have cuts or bad infections as it will further irritate the lining of the ears and potentially cause some pain. If the solution stings the pet, he will never let you do it again!
Avatar n tn Jazzy has a history of ear infections I guess from swimming in the ocean and any water available. about 4 weeks ago she was lethargic as in not getting up from the floor when I put kibble into metal dog dish. looking up at us sleepily...we ran her to the emergency vet and after blood test to check kidney and liver function we were told nothing unusual.was found......

389345 tn?1209322565 Just get as much of that yukky stuff out as you can without going in too far. We make ear cleaning a monthly routine around here with our dogs that have floppy ears. Dogs with perked up ears don't tend to get as much goop built up for some reason.
1598071 tn?1298208315 Ear mites are only one cause of ear infections in dogs. Yeast and bacterial ear infections are more common causes of head shaking in dogs especially if the ears have already been treated with an insecticide as you have already used. His ears should be checked by a vet and a cytology should be performed on the ear discharge to determine the cause of the infection. A cytology is performed by placing the ear discharge on a microscopic slide, staining the slide than looking under the microscope.
1450842 tn?1287452262 Hi i have a question about my dog, she has infection in her ear, they gave her otmax for her ears and i was wondering if she has fungel. can i get it on my skin?
Avatar f tn Thanks for your response, she does have terrible ear infections in both ears that we have been medicating her for. She didn't start the head tremors until she got the infections. I'll look further into it and let you know the outcome.
Avatar f tn it certainly sounds like ear mites as ear infections of that severity occur less in cats then in dogs. It should be very easy for your vet to diagnose ear mites. a little mineral oil in the ear (to trap the mites) and then examining a swab under the microscope is all that is needed. you will be able to see the mites swimming around and then the correct medication can be prescribed.
Avatar n tn As far as you can fit your finger inside the ear, you will NOT hit the ear drum. The ear drum is actually at a sharp right angle in towards the brain, so the ear canal will look like it just goes in a slight downward incline, but at the end, it takes a sharp turn. So as long as you shoot the stuff in the same angle as the ear canal, you will not damage anything. When you do put anything wet and cold in your dogs ear, it will try to jerk away and shake it out. Wouldnt you?
Avatar f tn He has been going to the vet for the past few weeks because of an ear infection. I am looking for an OTC ear wash that has steroids and hydrocortisone in it. Right now he is taking Benadryl and prednisone. I am thinking that she wants to get him off of the oral steroids and use the wash as a replacement. I cannot remember the name of the wash from the vet but it is pricey and am hoping to be able to get something just as good but somewhat cheaper.
