Avatar m tn since that day, i sweared that i will not prescribe clindamycin(or at least with 4timed daily dosing!!!!
Avatar n tn I was prescribed a ten day course of clindamycin for a gum infection, which it took care of. Six weeks later I developed severe diarrhea with terrible gut pain and fever. Had blood and mucous in stools an perhaps some intestinal lining. I lost 10 lbs and was very weak and the thought of food made me feel sick.. Emergency room diagnosed clostridium difficile after stool samples and CAT scan. I was put on a 14 day, 4x/day course of oral solution vancomycin which solved the problem.
Avatar n tn As for itching they can have antihistamines WITHOUT DECONGESTANTS in them. Ask you vet for dosing on any over the counter one such as benadryl (diphenhydramine) or Tavist (clemastine) or Chlortrimeton (chlorpheniramine) BUT most important get your pup on oral antibiotics and antifungals along with a good topical ear med like otomax or for really bad yeast clotrimazole drops. Also try cleansing the ear with a mixture of Domeboro solution.
Avatar m tn Hoping that Clindamycin will work...If the Clindamycin does not work...is there another medicine that could do the trick?
Avatar f tn Determining a dosage of tramadol for dogs is an exercise in futility. As with people, if the dog has a history of seizures it is important to let your vet know this, and they will likely tell you about alternatives. While the dosage amounts vary from dog to dog, the tramadol dosage for dogs can be put into effect by using the dog’s weight as the determinant. The usual range is .5 - 1.8mg per pound.
Avatar n tn Human grade fish oil supplements are made from exactly the same ingredients (usually!) as the ones for dogs. But check ingredients to make sure there is nothing in there that shouldn't be, and can harm dogs....such as xylitol etc. Pure fish oil is okay. But keep the capsules or bottle of oil out of the light, preferably in the refrigerator to prevent rancidity/free radicals, etc. There is some information, and information about dosages here: http://csu-cvmbs.colostate.
605458 tn?1539228808 I know they like to use once a day dosing with dogs, mostly for owner compliance. Its easier to remember, easier on the dog, and easier on the pocketbook, too! Are you checking his blood sugar? What kind of diet is he on? I don't know a lot about diabetic dogs, but the subject really interests me.
Avatar n tn I wouldn't even treat for "possible infection" with either. I'd wait for test results to come back to see if you even have either of them. clindamycin isn't going to help for either if you should be infected with either of them. you are wasting your time and money by taking it.
518994 tn?1212242047 Omega 3 Fatty acids are excellent for people and dogs. There are various vitamin-mineral supplements available that contain this or you could just add a little (~1/2 teaspoon) extra virgin olive oil to your dogs meals. Olive oil is a great source of Omega-3 Fatty acids. The omega-3's are the same for people and pets. If you give too much the result would be a bit of gas and/or loose stool.
Avatar f tn It needs to be diagnosed by a skin scrape and seen under a microscope or by looking at the dogs ear margin and elbows for a reflex reaction. Demodectic mange is a more complicated type and usually is diagnosed by skin scrape for the mites that hide deep in the follicles. A vet can treat by oral Ivermectin and should continue until 2 negative scrapes are taken. Mitaban dips can be used on dogs who can't take Ivermectin.
850029 tn?1238857820 Does anyone know if I could put a drop or two of listerine in my dogs water? I know they have stuff specifically made for dogs but not sure what's good? I would like something that cleans and freshens. My Chihuahua has bad teeth. She's lost a few and I think brushing them would be painful for him. I've tried the stuff that you spray on them but it is extremely difficult. (I get more on his face then anywhere.
Avatar n tn If you can obtain these homeopathic meds, they are safe for dogs, taste nice, no side effects, and can either work very well indeed, or sometimes not work at all. It is unpredictable. I have found that most dogs I have known did respond well to homeopathic medicine though. However, for her future health, do think about having her spayed.
Avatar n tn I'm allergic to penicillin and sulfa. Dentist prescribed Clindamycin 150 mg for 10 days for infection in my tooth. Got hives, rash, swollen lips and extreme itching and blotches from head to toe. Was on vacation so stopped medication after 3 days of taking it. It is now 5 days taking benadryl and the hives and itching have not stopped. What is in the clindamycin that I may be allergic to?
Avatar f tn My 8 month old lab about a week ago, started getting weaker and in pain. I took him on a 2 mile walk and he was fine and happy. The next morning when I went to water and feed him, he was walking with his head down and acting a different. I didn't think a whole lot of it-he was a strong minded little thing. But ut has progressively become a seriuos problem. He started developing these cysts in his muscles on his shoulders and legs.
19691093 tn?1488194069 (Once every 4 weeks or more, will give a pulse therapy dose of Clindamycin antibiotic for about a week; we wait until he starts pawing his face/mouth; his lower jaw is dissolved and rubbery.) --Enlarged heart with a slight heart murmur.
Avatar f tn Go to the doctor. Clindamycin is a high risk for gut issues.
Avatar m tn He is on Denamarin ¼ tablet for small to mediun dogs, 1 Prednisone tablet 5mg in the morning, ½ 250mg Metronidazole pill in the morning, and ¼ Prilosec in the morning! At night he only gets ¼ Prilosec! He has been holding his own for about a year now. Yesterday he started the head tilt and really stiff walking. He pants and drinks lots of water. He was diagnosed with high liver enzymes. He does also have some mouth/teeth problems but can’t go under the anesthesia to get a dental!
Avatar m tn Hi, thanks for your reply. I was interested in knowing why Clindamycin can't be taken with milk based products.
