I had to have a root canal redone as my previous dentist did not get the whole nerve and it became infected. The Dentist put me on amoxicillin 875mg twice a day, after 6 days I called him as it was having no effect. he then put me on clyndamycin 300mg twice a day, this is day two, it seemed better this morning and by this afternoon it isswelling slightly the tissue above my tooth is spongie again and I can tell it's filling with pus.
I have two failed implants due to infection which did not respond to Clindamycin. I also got a bad reaction to Clindamycin a feeling of big lump in throat, sore throat and severe heartburn. In spite of the fact that I drank at least 10ounces of water with each pill.
My question is since I'm allergic to penicillin. What antibiotic is effective for teeth and gum infections????

I have some clindamycin but not sure if that is an appropriate medication for a cat. he weighs 11 lbs.
in urgent care and prescribed clindamycin e150 mg pills....3 pills 3x per day (12 pills) she is 15 and 119 lbs. Was not diagnosed with ANYTHING. Now we have had a utility, yeast infection, her iron level is at 30, she has passed out over 5 times, cannot sleep has lost weight, major stomach pain etc. urgent care has said it was right meds and right dose. NO WAY!
So my LLMD has me on the following medications: Amoxicillin, Clindamycin, and Capadex (for my stomach problems). My dosage of the antibiotics are very high and I will be taking it for about 2 months. He believes I may H pyelori as well as Lymes because of my reoccurring ulcers. I am getting a more sensitive test for h Pyelori as well. I am also taking or about to Amrix for muscle pain. I was prescribed clindamycin after experiencing pain in my tooth after a root canal. I took a double dose (600mg) of clindamycin as I missed a dose. I am experiencing severe pain from my chest through to my back. It feels like spasms and is difficult to breath. I normally take nexium on a daily basis; however I missed my dose of that too. I did take my nexium but I have felt absolutely no relief whatsoever.
Amoxicillin is fine if it's the correct antibiotic. Dental infections can be from either an aerobic bacteria or anaerobic bacteria. Having the correct antibiotic is VERY important.
I urge you to at least call your dentist for approval before you treat a dental abscess yourself.
Amoxicillin may be fine, but you may need something like clindamycin instead.
Also, it's very important that a FULL dose is taken for dental infections.
Was doing well but have very unsightly and widespread blackening of skin, which does not clear up I believe my darkened cataracts developed as my skin blackened, and that this blackening residue is possibly in all my organs.
Have recently dropped back to single minocycline/day (100 mg) but believe cysts may already be redeveloping. I am reluctant to go back to the heavier antibiotic dosage but that may be necessary to avoid the extremely large cysts that were removed 2 yrs ago.
Thing is, blood work I had 5 days ago when I got started taking my clindamycin and bactrum now shows that I have no signs of infection in my blood, from CBC to my C-Protein. It can also be due to staphylococcal skin infections. Wash skin with antiseptic lotions daily to decrease bacteria. Treatment is by topical antibiotics and steroids. Local antibiotics of erythromycin and Clindamycin group also help. Retenoid group of drugs also help. Wear loose fitting clothes. Get your diabetes status checked as high blood sugar can also cause recurrent boils. Consult a skin specialist. Take care!

Hi I went in to the dentist a couple days ago to get a broken molar extracted. (I had a root canal done on it years ago and it has now got infected) It was extremely painful and tender to the touch but I had no visible swelling. Dentist sent me home with Vicodin & clindamycin to kill the infection before she could extract it in a few days. I know clindamycin is a top tier antibiotic. But I took it and the infection swelled and got more painful.
Seeing an oral surgeon to eliminate the source of infection is advised. Although clindamycin is narrow spectrum antibiotics, it is highly effctive for bone infection.
05%(base), i also just started using Fougera Clindamycin Phosphate gel USP, 1%(equivalent to 1% clindamycin. i have been using the first one for past three month twice a day and it is almost having no affect. the area is increasing and i m afraid it will get bigger and it is. what should i do? any recommendations on what i should use to get rid of it? can you recommend any medicine/cream??

I was prescribed a ten day course of clindamycin for a gum infection, which it took care of. Six weeks later I developed severe diarrhea with terrible gut pain and fever. Had blood and mucous in stools an perhaps some intestinal lining. I lost 10 lbs and was very weak and the thought of food made me feel sick.. Emergency room diagnosed clostridium difficile after stool samples and CAT scan. I was put on a 14 day, 4x/day course of oral solution vancomycin which solved the problem.
Hoping that Clindamycin will work...If the Clindamycin does not work...is there another medicine that could do the trick?
