Take that tooth out im sitting here with an infection from a root canal the dentist did not detect...10 months my face been swollen and numb...and its because of a root canal i had done years ago...and i brush floss my breath dont stink and i have no bleeding...but now i look like a cancer patient..and i been in the hospital more than 30 time for this infection they couldnt find and try to treat in my face.
I had a root canal done on tooth # 28 five days ago. I had no pain prior to root canal , but my dentist said I had a large abscess found on xray that needed to be root canaled before I left to go out of the country. Sine the root canal I have had severe pain 10+ and a lot of facial swelling. After calling my endontontist 3 days in a row he had me come in to his office and determined my bite was offf and I was hitting the root canal tooth first.
I have the exact same problem with an infection on the lower right 2nd tooth from the back. I had the root canal done two days ago and I am in terrible pain. The endodontist sent out a scrip for Clindamycin. First of all what is I&D and what do I do next. I am scared of complications that might be serious.
I recently had a root canal and was prescribed clindamycin too....I too have allergies to other antibiotics. The clindomycin did NOTHING and the infection got worse so now I am on CIPRO which was my own idea. I don't know if it is working 100% yet, but at least the infection has died down and I can tell it is helping......
So sorry your going through that, i had an abscess(everything from eye to cheek was very swollen) and went to the er, i got a shot of clindamycin and a prescription, its cleared, and i had the root canal retreated, and so far, no complications, good luck! i know its scary 2 think you have 2 wait 3 weeks to have it worked on.
he said i had a chronic infection 9which means its long lasting and doesnt hurt) that went accute (painful flare up) after the root canal and he said the root canal looked good and to give it more time to heal but due to the infection and huge knot in my cheek he put me on both an antibiotic and methylprednisolone (a steriod antiinflammatory becasue the inflamation being so bad the antibiotics wouldnt work by them selves) anyways i finished out my 7 days of those but the tooth still hurt to tap
I called my dentist and he said it was probably just sensitivity to the root canal work. He changed my antibiotic to Clindamycin and put me on a week-long course of Prednizone. I started doing salt water rinses, and quit the mouth wash.
Now it has been nine days and the pain has gradually receded but is not gone. The teeth are still sensitive to hot tea and I can't chew with them.
That did not help and was switched to amoxicillin, followed by a root canal. The root canal was a week ago but the lump from the abscess is still on my gum. Is this normal? I was not put on antibiotics after the root canal but I took the last 2 amox. From the prescrip I had been given the week before.
In April Ihad a root canal. Thre times after this root canal, I developed an infection. The third, in November, was the worst. I was sent back to the dds who had performed the root canal to "redo" it. He found a root he had missed. The redoing of the root canal then caused the infection to go completely out of control even though I was on clindamycin. It was so bad that anitbiotics had no effect and it had to be drained ( a most painful procedure).
I was prescribed clindamycin after experiencing pain in my tooth after a root canal. I took a double dose (600mg) of clindamycin as I missed a dose. I am experiencing severe pain from my chest through to my back. It feels like spasms and is difficult to breath. I normally take nexium on a daily basis; however I missed my dose of that too. I did take my nexium but I have felt absolutely no relief whatsoever.
I am becoming worried that this infection is spreading throughout my jaw and tissue and that there will be permanent damage. I prepaid for this root canal therapy which obviously cannot be completed until infection is gone and cannot afford to go to another for a second opinion.
How concerned should I be that this infection will continue to spread and cause damage?

1) can all of these antibiotics ive been on delay/impact tests taken?
2) are my tests up to this point a good indication of a - status?
3) can my root canal have delayed p24 from showing up on tests?
4) at what day would my tests be considered conclusive?
2 weeks ago I was having extreme pain on my bottom left molar. Went to the dentist and had a root canal done. Dentist was surprised there wasn't much drainage or pus. Put on Amoxicillan and Torodal for the pain. Wednesday afternoon I'm still in extreme pain. Phone the dentist and he puts me on another antibiotic (flagyll)
Over the weekend I end up in ER on IV with Clindamycin and more Torodal. Tuesday arrives pain has deminished now only taking Advil for pain.

Last week, on Tuesday, I had a root canal and was prescribed clindamycin 150mg/3 per day, which I started taking by Thursday. I have been taking them for about a week now while going through some of its most irritating side-effect, diarrhea, for which I will be tested for C-difficil. The graduate Endo student that did my root canal was excellent and said that I only had one canal and also said that I did not need to take an antibiotic. He said that I shouldn't be alarmed unless I had bad pain or large swelling.
I had to have a root canal redone as my previous dentist did not get the whole nerve and it became infected. The Dentist put me on amoxicillin 875mg twice a day, after 6 days I called him as it was having no effect. he then put me on clyndamycin 300mg twice a day, this is day two, it seemed better this morning and by this afternoon it isswelling slightly the tissue above my tooth is spongie again and I can tell it's filling with pus.
