I'm allergic to penicillin and sulfa. Dentist prescribed clindamycin 150 mg for 10 days for infection in my tooth. Got hives, rash, swollen lips and extreme itching and blotches from head to toe. Was on vacation so stopped medication after 3 days of taking it. It is now 5 days taking benadryl and the hives and itching have not stopped. What is in the clindamycin that I may be allergic to?
I was healthy before I took the clindamycin and now I wake up nauseous and yesterday had a huge welt on my right arm and itchy bump on the front of my right ankle as well as off and on rashes that come and go. I would like to know when the clindamycin and maybe also the steroid cream effects will go away? I have to fight the swollen feet and ankles still and notice they get worse now when sitting for long periods of time. This was not an issue before.
I would call your dr immediately and get switched to another antibiotic and see if you need to go to er. I am currently on penicillin for my tooth infection after root canal. It is working for me and not many issues.
I had some teeth extracted and had a bit of discomfort a few days after. I am allergic to penicillin, so my oral surgeon prescribed clindamycin 150mg 4 times daily, for 7 days.(November 5th ) Mouth pain went away and about the first week of December (one month later) and up to this date, i have lose stools, not quite diarreha but they are soft and accompanied by mucous like substance. Stress has always been a big part of my life, but never a problem so i am ruling that out.
By seeking an allergy consultation and having a skin test done with the appropriate major and minor penicillin reagents and controls (penicillin, Pre-Pen, and [minor determinant mixture])," Dr. Castells said.
Anyway, I tried going off the augmentin (I'm taking it in conjunction with clindamycin), and today I feel much less swollen. I realized that also my abdomen had seemed swollen, and now it seems not as much. I discussed these concerns with my primary doctor, but she says to just go back on it, she thinks I am having an inflammatory reaction to the chronic infection. I don't know what to do.
I've been struggling a chronic infection for the last 5 months as result of a failed root canal (the infected root wasn't completely removed in the original procedure, and caused a MAJOR infection). Because it was not properly diagnosed, I now have a bit of bone infection under that tooth. Luckily, I've found the right oral surgeon (who showed me the problem on xray) and am having the tooth removed next week, and he is going to clean out the area underneath.
I am allergic to Keflex, Zithromax, and clindamycin, I was just prescribed amoxicillian, should I be concerned

The dentist put me on flagyl because I'm allergic to keflex clindamycin and penicillin. My gums surrounding he extraction site are still swollen and very sore. I think the abscess is still in there. The problem is the flagyl is givin me horrible panic attacks. Any idea as to what I should do?
) Although I'm stuck with that. And frankly, I was on the clindamycin for weeks and that didn't get rid of the infection, so maybe a broad spectrum antibiotic will work for me. I sure hope so. thank you again for your advice.
The similarity with penicillin is only important for people who are allergic to penicillin (as they will also be allergic to keflex). Personally, I would go with Azithromycin (or clindamycin) if penicillin isn't working, but Cephalexin is different enough it might work. You can tell if its working if the pain/swelling go away in 4-5 days.
Group B strep colonization is not a sexually transmitted disease (STD). For the same antibiotics like penicillin and clindamycin are used. Because of possible resistance with clindamycin, vancomycin remains the initial treatment of choice for group B streptococcal infection in patients who are allergic to penicillin. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
I went back to the oral surgeon because the pain is so bad and he said it is healing nicely and gave me Percocet and said to give it a couple more days. It has been a week since I have had the tooth pulled and the pain is getting worse. I am taking 2 Percocet (325) every 4 hours and that isn’t taking the pain away. Only lasts about 2 hours. I can’t live like this, it is terrible. I don’t know what to do.
I did, dosen't seem to do anything. I am allergic to penicillin and double checked with the Dr. and the pharmacy before taking this drug. A friend of mine is a Family Practioner and told me to leave work and go home and take 2 benadryl every 8 hours. Will the benadryl clear up the rash? How long does it take to recover from something like this? Should I not hve been put on this drug with a severe penicillin allergy? Thank You for your time.
clindamycin - Apparently now within a couple days she is noticing considerable improvements and now the spots have seemed to "stop" popping up no matter how mild they were when they did.... the fact is they've stopped showing up in new places. I've never seen someone so sensitive to EVERYTHING in the realm of physical and mental like my mom is, but one thing is for sure she definitely knows her body cause that sulfa drug did cause an allergic reaction.
,,,i called the endo/oral surgeon and he but me on clindamycin (super storng cus the penicillin wasnt strong enough) im 4 days on the new antibiotic and the pain is gone...even though my reg dds said the root canal was fine I still felt i needed another opinion from a specialist...and he confirmed what the my general dds said...they both said "every tooth is diiferent and some root canals take months to stop hurting"...
The penicillin couldn't cut it and changed to clindamycin..yucky stomach is all I can say. Get that tooth pulled, overcome the infection, and then get treated for depression...depression gives you a touch of the 'wannabesicks' ... hopefully you'll improve your mental outlook when your body isn't trying to fight off a prolonged infection as a result of a broken tooth. People like us have to get these things that seem trivial treated immediately, otherwise we think we're dying.
I'm allergic to Murpirocin, neosporin, bacitracin, clindamycin, metronidazole all topicals and had a syncope from a tetracycline type drug. My brother is anaphylaxic to penicillin. It sounds like you can tolerate Mupirocin but the topical isn't enough for your tissue infection. Celluitis can be pretty deep in the tissue so if it isn't working either the bacteria are resistant to it or it isn't penetrating the tissue well enough. You could ask to try mupircin oral and see if that works better.
Does anyone know if clindamycin HONESLTY affects birth control? I am on Yasmin. And if it does, would taking it for 1 day make me ovulate although I never missed any pills? We always use condoms, not just because of the antibiotics, and I am always afraid of pregnancy anyway. I have OCD so that's part of why, but I am so scared that I possible ovulated. I have checked my cervix everyday and it is in the same place and closed, but I'm still afraid that an egg slipped out or something.
Badly infected. Tried penicillin VK, infection stayed. Trying clindamycin- not helping to well so far after 3 days. Doctors office hard to get a hold of and dentist is out of ideas. I will ask my Dr office tomorrow- but need to throw this question out: Question: Who had antibiotics for dental infection during treatment and what antibiotic worked for you?
So if you are allergic to amoxacillin you are probably/possibly allergic to all the penicillin and penicillin like drugs like what they call beta lactam drugs. These are cephalosporins or those that have names like cephalothin, cephalexin, ceph anything. Also if you are allergicc to Biaxin that is the same as Clarithromycin so you would be allergic to the macrolides like the clarthoromcyin, azithromycin, etc. It is too bad but you might want to get allergy tested to make sure. 2.
I haven't taken any in over a week, but it's still all over my face and back and front of my neck. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there anyway to make it go away. I've grown accustomed to hives, but this is different. I should also add, I had an infected tooth and my period. Could these have anything to do with it?
I am afraid that the bacteria was not killed and will return. What do you all think? I am now allergic to bactrim, penicillin and possibly clindamycin, so are there any other antibiotics that can kill cellulitis should it return?
He put me on clindamycin because I have an allergy to penicillin and amoxycilline. Any way my swelling hasn't went down in fact it has increased and can feel it close to my eye's. Is there a way I could reduce the swelling or should I seek a medical emergency, right away?
I am taking clindamycin Vaginal 2% every night for my syphilis along with penicillin. Is it ok to take clindamycin during menstruation? I am a new member. Sorry if i posted again! I still don't know how this site works.
