Clindamycin and drinking alcohol

Common Questions and Answers about Clindamycin and drinking alcohol

benzaclin

Under absolutely positively no circumstances should you be drinking alcohol and taking Clindamycin. Alcohol is a solvent and besides other effects breaks the molecular bonds on the antibiotic, destroying it's usefullness. Drinking is a good way to develop an antibiotic resistant infection.
I know this is weird, but the taste of my discharge becomes bitter. After treatment of oral clindamycin and diflucan all my symptoms are relieved, sometimes for along time. I had read an article many yrs ago about chronic BV . I was first diagnosed with BV when I was 20, but I had no symptoms. Most of the time, doctors say they don't see any infection, but treat me any ways for BV because it does relieve my symptoms. I have been on on metrogel, 2 times a week, vaginally.
I also suspected that i had some form of food/drink allergy and began depriving myself of coffee and alcohol. The end result is that I eliminated coffee and alcohol (as much as i can) and do the nasal spray with the daily claritin and I feel better than I have felt in a long time. Hope this information is helpful to some, if not all of you.
For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations; 1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.
There must be a common factor we all have or do. I have reduced and limited my alcohol intake. Does anyone else drink? Can this be a factor?
I used to take Isotretinoin 20mg and Azithromycin(500mg) and a Benzoyl Peroxide based soap and Clindamycin ointment. Recently in my anxiety to get rid of my acne scars, I used Mederma, that cleared my skin but again, I started getting severe acne. So, I took Isotretinoin 20mg and Azithromycin. But it didn't work. Also, I discontinued the Isotretinoin course and took this ointment, Persol Forte ( Benzoyl Peroxide with ppt Sulfur). It made my skin red and pimples worse.
This is going to be a long post, so get comfy! I'm a recovering alcoholic, pain killer abuser, etc. I've been attending AA/NA meetings and have been clean for 61 days. Here is my story (and how it all relates to an aspirin overdose) The last time I drank I was out of Vicodin (I used to drink and take pain meds, not bright I know... ) and was in a considerable amount of pain. I have been prescribed Vicodin for dental problems after a car accident.
So was it four months of Metrogel, Sulfacet, Rezamid and Clindamycin -- or was it just time, or maybe a combination. Who knows. Hope this finds you well and healing.
The Elidel acts like a steroid but it isn't nor will it thin the skin or cause steroid rosacea. The Clindamycin and Sulfacet have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, as does the Elidel. If your seb derm is very raw, you may have to knock it down a little with a steroid as much as I hate them. If you have to go this route, don't use the steroid more than a week and then taper off maybe with hydrocortisone for another week while adding the above.
Tried Protonix for 8 weeks and it only helped the effects on my stomach from the clindamycin. It didn't help the feeling in my throat. Went back to the medical doctor and he said I had Haemophillus Influenza which was thought to be viral but was actually bacterial. He put me on Bactrim. There probably was some kind of infection still lingering in there, but it still felt like something was there, and I know I'm not crazy!! I also had a scope down my throat and they saw nothing abnormal.
They did a susceptibility test, but did not test many antibiotics. They determined it was susceptible to Clindamycin and Doxycycline. I took Clindamycin for one day, and got diarrhea so I decided to stop. I started taking Doxycycline instead, took it for 10 days, but have not improved. What should I do now? Do I need to wait 10 days to do another test and ask them to test more antibiotics?
That means he may have liver damage from either drug and alcohol abuse or something worse like hepatitis C. Has your roommate ever indicated that he WANTS to stop abusing drugs?
Maybe having 8 beers in one night, once a month. Is it okay for a little alcohol and will there be any side effects for it. Also, this may seem like an extreme question, but has anyone ever become very ill from taking acutane? What is the worst case scenerio from taking acutane? Will drinking a lot of water help to avoid some of the acutane side-effects and can you still work out(lifting weights about 8 hours a week)?
that's definitely out for me know, there's too much scientific evidence out there that correlates cow's milk to acne. Milk is OUT. I've always been a coffee drinker and I always have cream in my coffee. I quit drinking coffee for those 2 months where my acne was almost clear. I'm going to have to say coffee is OUT... there are so many toxins in coffee anyways. I always have a disturbed sleeping pattern... I read reports a normal bedtime also very very important in making acne better.
I have had the same problem for over three years now. My family doctor told me to swab my ears with a mixture of alcohol and vinegar which gave me some relief for a short period of time. I have been seeing an ENT now, once or twice a week, maybe 8 visits total. We started with antibiotics and drops which worked while I was taking the drops. Then the Doc did a culture and prescibed a new antibiotic, a creame and new drops.
I did a liver cleanse and ordered a gold coin grass tincture to soften up any stones in there, and have been drinking gallons of organic apple juice. The pain comes and goes, but I've been on a diet for the past week to try to keep the pain away, I'm not eating red meats or fatty foods. Mostly all fruits and salads and fresh vegetable and fruit juices.
After a change of diet because all this the problem got worst. The water didn't dry me and I was drinking water and eating fruits for the single purpose of creating saliva. I thought that maybe boiling the water created a poisoning reaction, because I was using iron pots with white keramics but scratched in several parts, and the water turned brownish when boiled. Then I stoped drinking tea with boiled water, I puted to the sun to soak.
Yeah. Well that's what I hope-related to some kind of yeast thing, and not HPV-which would mean I have to wait until it runs it's course with me. My doctor actually told me to stick with the gold bond if it works, but that's treating the symptoms...sigh. I just had a run of anti biotics after a surgery, wouldn't that take care of any kind of BI/yeast/uti??
I've decided to radically alter my diet and cut out fat of any description and also to see if not drinking alcohol helps - this has gone on for too long. I'm 58 and have had all of the usual tests for heart and stomach problems, I'm on Ranitadine for a hiatus hernia and Ramapril for high blood pressure. Thanks to all the people who have posted comments, as I said it, helps a lot. God bless you all.
I will say that yesterday for the first time in a long time I began using the topical cream DUAC prescribed by my Dermatologist for acne. It is 1% clindamycin and 5% benzoyl peroxide, and as I write this it is forefront on my mind that this stuff may be the cause (there has to be an obvious link between my sudden reoccurrance and my recent use of this cream--yesterday). Perhaps some of the ingredients in this stuff are in something you use?
The other thing I've done that seems to help is that I've stopped drinking soda and eating or drinking anything with lots of sugar in it. I've also stopped eating out . I don't take birth control. I did for about 6 months when this problem first started...it was supposed to control my hormone levels and stop the itching....it didn't work. I seem to have outbreaks when my stress level is high. Do you all have high stress jobs?
He gave the Clindamycin vaginal cream for the Strep B and I finished that a couple of weeks ago and it still has not gone away. Had a series of Blood tests done and a stool sample. Blood tests were all normal but the stool sample came back with C-diff in my intestenal track. The medications I took allowed for all the bad bacteria to grow. I was then put on Alinia medication for the C-diff which has helped a great deal and I thought the Strep B would be gone.
A, E, C, D3, Beta Carotene, Isoprinosine - no processed food - no smoke or alcohol I've made test for HIV too and is negative. I also made test for streptococcus and staphylococcus and are negative. Im positive for oral herpes, but herpes is not active, in fact it was active just 1 time in 1 year (active for 3 or 4 days, than dissappear).
she went to the ER they gave her a shot some more antibiotics in a cup and yet more clindamycin, that she should take every six hours for ten days. She was feeling very tired, crampy, sharp pains in her pelvic, cranky and slight feverish. We did not know what was wrong with her.THANK YOU GUYS SOOOOO MUCH .
I insert a sterilized needle into the center of the cyst and squeze the puss (having alcohol wipes available) wiping it with the alcohol wipes. I use sterile tweezers to squeze the cyst, and I have found that oftentimes, a hard white "head" will come to the surface, which I pull out through the hole whenever possible. This "head" is the duct andI don't have the problem again for quite some time.
There are other medicines that may be taken by mouth for this infection, such as clindamycin (Cleocin), and there are also vaginal creams and gels. You will not be able to drink or have sex for a week. while on these meds. I know that can suck sometimes though. Your partner does not need to be treated because BV has not been proven to be a sexually transmitted infection. Some women get BV again and again. It is not clear why or how this happens.
On Monday and Tuesday, several people commented on the state of my eyes, especially the right one, which seemed to be in a worse condition. My eyelids were dry and painful to touch, especially in the corner and it was continuously weeping, until yesterday afternoon when it seemed to heal up to the point where it looked sore, but no longer felt it. And then today- my awful eyes are worse than ever. While my actual eyes are fine, my eyelids are large, puffy and as per usual- RED.
I get the feeling that they are like little paper cuts all inside, and they are excruciating when you tinkle. I have tried a steroidal cream, perscribed by my gyne, but it is messy and gooey, and I really don't like using it, because it doesn't really do much. Do you notice they get worse before or after your period? I know what you mean about feeling like, "what the hell is this?" I am in a monogomous relationship for 6 years, with the same partner, who is now my husband.
I tried to remove one with tweezers, and it was very tacky (as in sticky) and clearly goes deep under the skin. Part of it broke off but I could still see that the pore was plugged and a day or two later top of the plug was sticking out again. i can't find ANYTHING online that looks like it.
It is always so much worse at night, always on the right side and i'm always less able to control the scratching when i've been out drinking (does anyone get that?!). i get the dry, flakey skin and the rawness from scratching. i'm sure it's worse when i'm stressed and definately when it's hot at night. I've not been to my doctor due to embarrasment which i know is ridiculous but reading the stories has made me realise i've just been stupid in that respect.
