Great posts! I really don't have much to add except passion: I'm 57 and there's no way I will go off hormones (Vivelle patch, which is a bioidentical hormone) and testosterone. I am feaking out a little now because I just got a letter from our new insurance company saying they won't pay for Vivelle... they will only cover a generic form of Climara (also a bioidentical patch, but made from.... um... yams, I think, where as Vivelle is from soy... or is it the other way around?).

It took care of the hot-flashes but caused me to gain 10 pounds in a 6 week period. My doc said the weight gain was from menopause. Well, I took the patch off 2 weeks ago and threw it away, and I have now lost 6 of those pounds and feel much better. I think it was causing depressiont too. I have been on bio-identical hormones for a few years - progesterone cream and DHA cream - and have done fine. I had osteoporosis before the hormone creams but have now reversed it.

I am still having night sweats BADLY. My dr put me on Climara Pro. I am concerned about the stroke and dementia risks that it lists. I have been on it for a week and its helping me, although I am very bloated which does not work well for a recovering eating disorder/alcoholic, (just saying). Is it too dangerous for me because of my blood flow. Will the bloating subside? I have stopped eating mostly again, but I am more worried about the blood?

Mainly now I am still dealing with the insomnia, panic, weight gain and constipation and the overall pain. What is this and why do I feel so crappy? I never knew menopause was so horrible AND I MEAN HORRIBLE. If someone had told me when I was in my 20s that... oh yeah and guess what when you hit your 50s your gonna wish you were dead rather than feel like you hit a wall physically (figuratively speaking) EVERYDAY. This is hell srsly. I never knew I would hit meno age and feel this poorly.

Hi Gayleen, I am going to suggest you consider it is time for a change in the dosage of your patch. I am hoping you are on a Bioidentical patch... all of the info I am about to share is info regarding this type of estrogen patch. I don't know much about the synthetic patches and from what I have read, you will not get the same type of relief since there are "issues" with the synthetics... dose often not high enough...

"Overlapping" may help. When you put on the new patch, leave the old one on for a half or full day before removing. If that doesn't work, you could try switching to the weekly Climara patch and "overlap" it if you still have the migraine trigger. I used the patch for over a year and it didn't work well for me due to the fluctuations and not giving me enough estrogen. But it did not cause migraines but I was never one to suffer with those, thankfully.

Hi guys, just a question about HRT.............. anyone out there on it, and does it affect your MS drugs, and did it help?? I was prescribed Climara .05 in a patch once a week, and I'm scared to try it. I was just wondering if anyone out there has tried these drugs and what was your take on them. Any feedback would be appreciated.... Thxs..

I am on a patch too - I am not sure of your brand, but mine is bio-identical and just that it bypasses the liver means less side effects. The side effects are typically caused by too much or too little of the hormone. Have you consulted an endocrinologist to see how your hormones are as you may need a thyroid increase or other medication and you then may not need depression and anxiety medications.

wondering if it has to do with the hormone patch??? I am eating well and losing weight (on purpose) so I dont know what is wrong..tomorrow I am seeing my primary MD..Just thought if anyone has any idea...please share..

hi im 20 years old and i been on the depo shot for 2 years since i got my shot i lost some weight and i wanna gain weight but the shot doesnt seem to be working i used to be at a healthy weight before i got on the shot i was thinking about switching to the birth control patch but i dont know if that would be good for me i was wondering if anybody was or been on the patch before and if they gained any weight from being on it cause i would love to gain more weight and if anybody got any side eff

I started hormones last week and they put me on the vivelle dot patch. I put a patch (0.1mg) on every Monday morning and change it on Thurs night to a new patch. Sometimes they have to tweak the dose as a person might need more in the beginning. That seems to be the case for me. The NP at my gyn/oncs office yesterday told me to change the patch after 2 days for now to see how I do. I was getting irritable and had an increase in night sweats by the last day and just feeling kinda yucky.

The only reason I would switch to that form of Estradiol is because my new health insurance is charging so much for the Vivelle and will only cover the generic form of the Climara patch (also a bioidentical estradiol and not a bad choice, but I have heard that women are not liking the generic version. Maybe it will get better sooooon... I hope!) I also take testosterone along with that hormone.

Some women complain of gaining weight due to water retention when they take estrogen. I have not personally experienced that. But many women gain weight after hysterectomy too because it changes metabolism even when the ovaries are not removed. How is the lower dose working out?

hummm i had total on monday the 26th and they started me on hormone replacement that day..I am 36 but I wake up sweating every night......so not sure that the cream is working....lol...hope all is ok with you...

Why would one side hurt worse than the other. They also put me on a hormone patch called Climara. Has anyone taken this and is it good.

I was on Cymbalta and found no changes in my weight due to that. But Lyrica did cause me to gain weight rapidly and without changing my diet. Once I stopped taking the Lyrica, though, that weight just dropped right off. It can be really hard to exercise when you have chronic pain. I found swimming helped as it was gentle on my joints. I also found, through trial and error, that I was able to use an elliptical machine, even with bad joint pain.

I,m worried about being plunged into the menopause over night and also wondered whether anyone else has noticed increased weight especially around the midrife..and i also have a pain between my shoulder blades around the bra strap area which really hurts??

Hey Guys, I have to weigh in here, too. And, as I said in my post on Weight gain (sorry... I meant my response)... I had a Very Bad experience, too, with the HERS foundation. Honestly, thanks to your post, Yzf, I will always clarify what I am saying when I recommend HerPlace ... not to be confused with the HERS foundation. No one would ever speak to me again on this site. I totally agree with you ... the sense is that many of the women on that site do not want to be helped.

its good for bone desity, helps with nerves and anger outbursts I was having also took away hot flashes and insomnia..so i personally recomend it I use the Vivelle patch its a small dime size patch I put on lower belly two times per week...I have no negative side effects at all. You may request gettting hormones checked you wont have any from ovaries..the pararthyroid adrenal and thyroid all produce levels that can be checked..

Well I don't like shots and I heard that you gain alot of weight on it. Is there one where you don't? I would say we would use condoms but we don't like them or can we ever find any that fits him.

I cant go anything that has a patch. I tried with Climara and it ripped off my skin.I'm allergic to adhesives but I wanted to try anyways. I will look into Bio-identical and yes I know what Premarin is made from. It wasn't to pleasant knowing. I'm going to give my relations with my hubby a little more time, then call my dr. I wasn't sure if other women had this issue. I didnt want to feel stupid calling him and saying "hey I cant have sex" whats going on?....
