Claritin or zyrtec for hives

Common Questions and Answers about Claritin or zyrtec for hives

zyrtec

Avatar m tn Never was able to find a cause but my doctor had be start taking an everyday allergy medication like Zyrtec or Claritin. Once I started that the hives went away and haven't came back. I would first see if you can find a common irritant you can eliminate. If not try taking Zyrtec or Claritin.
Avatar f tn For pretty much the past 6 or 7 years, I constantly break out in hives whenever I touch anything. It could be that I sit on a chair and get hives on my thighs or open the fridge and get hives on my hands. I've gone to a dermatolagist several times, but even after a scratch test and everything, we've found no reasons for my random breakouts. I'm currently on Allegra and have been for years. I've tried claritin, zyrtec, etc. I need to know what ttis is and how to stop it!
Avatar f tn I notice that certain drugs work better for me with certain allergies. Claritin works well for me for dust and mild pet dander, but Zyrtec helps with more vigorous pet dander (horses) and for cottonwood and dogwood. Really only Benadryl works for pine bladders. My doctor gave me some samples of some other medications: Zyzal (sp?) and Singulaire, which also help with the more daily stuff, including some food allergies, that Claritin can't handle.
Avatar f tn Hello all. I have had hives all over my body in as many as 15 different locations at the same time. I've tried singular, zyrtec, Claritin, benadryl, oatmeal baths and nothing helps in the least. In the last day I've also experienced headache and nausea. No new foods, drinks or environmental changes. Please note I also have multiple diseases such as Lupus, Posteral orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, gastroparisis, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Avatar n tn What is better for allergies allegra or claritin? Whats stronger Loratadine or Fexofenadine?
Avatar f tn Hello, In exercise induced urticaria, most symptoms can be controlled by taking antihistaminics like benadryl or Claritin or zyrtec. Slow down or stop your exercise as soon as symptoms start. You should always exercise with a partner who knows about your condition. In some people, eating certain foods before exercise may make allergic symptoms more likely to occur. Keep track of what you eat before exercising for a few weeks.
Avatar f tn all of which should lighten up when I took the Zyrtec, or Allergra, or Claritin.. but I am not finding any relief with any of these.
Avatar n tn and should i see a doctor befor taking antihistaminics like benadryl or Claritin or zyrtec or should i just buy them and check it out?
Avatar m tn On yahoo answers...... "You've got lots of good advice here and I just had to add mine because I suffer from hives-- diagnosed as 'ideopathic urticara'- for months at a time. The best advice my dermatologist ever gave me: Don't scratch. When you scratch your cells burst and release histamines... you may find yourself swollen. I have had this condition to the point of being disfigured and in the ER being pumped full of steroids.
10843549 tn?1425096623 Took generic medicine for zyrtec, allergies DM, for about 1 week 1/2. Felt better and thats what pharmacist recommended.

Avatar m tn Most symptoms can be controlled by taking antihistaminics like Benadryl or Claritin or zyrtec. Also keep track of what you eat before exercising for a few weeks. If you notice a pattern to your symptoms that seems related to a certain food, stop eating it for a while and see if the hives stop. Also, do not exercise for 4 to 6 hours after you eat. You should stop exercising as soon as you notice the hives.
Avatar n tn I have had a problem with hives all over my body for a month or more now. My hands start to itch first, then the bottom of my feet, then my scalp even the inside of my mouth itches sometimes. I'm a hairdresser and suspect it could be the chemicals and shampoos and products. Or could this be a food allergy? I take a wonderful antihistamine called xyzal. It works really well but when it wears off I'm in trouble.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking Claritin for the itchy hives due to antibodies destroying my thyroid. My doctor doesn't seem to know what is causing the antibodies to attack my thyroid. So I guess my question is this........ What exactly is causing the antibodies to attack my thyroid /??? !!!!!! The itch from the hives drives me crazy. They hives seem to come out around the joints of my wrist, elbow and knee yet some times the hives are on my thigh or back.
Avatar n tn Keep on taking the antihistaminics and apply calamine lotion on the itchy areas. You can also take Claritin or Zyrtec for the itching as they cause less drowsiness than Benadryl. Also apply a mild steroid cream on the itchy rashes and pls don’t scratch them.If the hives don’t go after 6 weeks also, then pls get yourself evaluated as it may be due to autoantibodies. Take care and do keep us posted on how you are doing.Kind regards.
Avatar f tn Okay. Thank you!
Avatar m tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be due to contact dermatitis or hives. Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around. Give over the counter antihistaminics like Claritin or zyrtec to your husband.Nighttime itching can be controlled by benadryl. Also apply calamine lotion or a mild steroid cream on the itchy areas.
Avatar m tn the next day i have been getting hives. Do you think it is in my mind that the hives keep coming back or is it because of the alcohol and marijuana? I have both smoked and drank occasionally for years and never had any of these problems since this November. What is your diagnosis?
Avatar f tn I've had the worst mystery illness that has put me out for the last couple of weeks, and I am at a complete loss as to what to do about it. Just to give you a little health history, I'm 19 weeks pregnant. No complications. I have been taking a few medications to deal with the pregnancy. Half a unisom at night to help with my nausea and horomone induced insomnia for the past few months, and omeprazole for a couple of weeks to help with my acid reflux.
Avatar m tn then i stoped taking the prozac and i havnt taken it for over a week. still i get random hives, whether they show up or i just itch my skin. some start as a hard lump then get really itchy. others just start as open bump the size of a pea, then that gets really itchy. i then scratch and scratch because i cant stand it and i get this splotchy ameba looking thing that can get as big as a half dollar, or a large inflamed lump. then more tiny dots surround it.
Avatar m tn You can take non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine(Zyrtec) or Loratadine(Claritin) to get symptom relief. Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine(Benadryl) is used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms. You may take Vitamin C and apply calamine lotion on the rashes.

Avatar n tn At first it appeared to be like scabies, so was treated for that. Then, at times it was hive like (even the scratches raised up like hives). It is not everywhere, underarms, breasts, naval, lower abdomen, back. chest, shoulders, wrists, hands. There are many small bumps mixed with bigger hive like bumps. Very, very itchy. Calamine helps. At times it subsides, but then a very itchy phase again.
Avatar f tn It is a form of chronic hives that is caused by an increase in body temperature but can be idiopathic also. Take some antihistaminic like Benadryl or Claritin and apply some calamine lotion on the hives. If the symptoms persist then please get it examined from a dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
