Well I supposedly got over pneumonia. I went to the doctor today and he said my lungs sound good. I've been sick for 2 weeks at least. I'm still coughing up stuff, however he said I'd be coughing for another 6 weeks. But I haven't been able to sleep lately (I wont fall asleep unitl 6 hours after I lay down) and I'm itchy all over. I dont know if they're related to pneumonia or not. My appetite is also not totally normal. Is this maybe b/c of the antibiotic I was on?

I have been fighting what my doctor called sinusitis but recently diagnosed via blood serology as microplasma pneumonia complicated by pertussis since Nov. 12. I was put on Augmentin, Levaquin, Cephalexin, and most recently(after the serology results) Clarithromycin. A chest X-ray was never done. Three children were diagnosed with sinusitus, two of them with accompanying middle ear infections Dec. 2. The two with ear infections had not cleared two weeks later and were put on Cephalexin Dec. 19.
That's when I decided to go to the hospital, about 3 weeks ago. The doctors took a chest x-ray and told my translator I have pneumonia. They put me on an IV drip for about 5 hours a day and this continued for 2 week. At this point I took a CT and they told me I am getting better. They conducted any tests to determine what kind of bacteria is in my lungs.
He was finally told after xrays that he had atypical pneumonia and has been on Clarithromycin for over 2 weeks. During this time he has also had a collapsed lung and had 2 aspirations and a chest drain to re-inflate the lung. His resting pulse has gone from 58 beats per minute to over 100 (tachycardia). A blood test also suggested septic blood but the doctor seems to think it is ok now (?). He doesn't seem to be getting better.
In 2002 read article from the Jewish Hospital in Denver in local Desert Sun paper to Pulmonary Doctors that if their patients had a chronic cough to give them CLARITHROMYCIN. I had Chronic Cough from 1996-2002. Our running friend that was head of Eisenhower Hospital Radiologist took CT scan 10/1/1998 and found 1 cm space occupying lesion in the anterior Mediastinum which was not present on prior 1991 and 1995 Radiologist.
I've had pneumonia four times now in seventeen months. The last two bouts were double pneumonia. My pulmonologist thinks it might be due to MAC, anyone have any experience with this? Thank you.
Steroids maybe, but I guess, you don't have pneumonia already. Pneumonia means inflammation of soft lung tissue, but occassional difficult breathing is from acidic irritation and resulting spasm of BRONCHI, not from lung tissue itself. Many people on this forum reported really bad nausea with antibiotics, so, it's understandable that you don't se "any improvement". Be sure to finish the whole treatment regime, and then go and have another test for H.
Today, I went to the doctor and he diagnosed white blood cells in my urine and put me on the antibiotic Clarithromycin (200mg, twice a day). The lab work identifying the culprit will not come back for a while, but gonorrhea or chlamydia are suspected. My questions: 1) The dose seems small compared to what I saw on the internet (500mg seemed typical). Will this does be effective? 2) I'm not sure if they will screen for trichinosis, but would this medicine clear that up as well?
According to the article, a Doctor Juha Sinisalo of Helsinki University treated 148 heart patients for 85 days with 500 mg/day of clarithromycin. Clarithromycin is a type of antibiotic called a macrolide. Over three months, 11 patients receiving the antibiotic suffered heart attacks, unstable angine or death compared to 19 in the control group. In addition, in the 1.5 years of followup, those who got antibiotics were half as likely to suffer another heart related complication.

Last week at school, he had two but he has been sick with pneumonia for I don't know how long. He was put on clarithromycin for his infection but I believe it has counter acted with one or more of his other meds. His behavior has been out of whack. We have to go to see his peds neuro on Wednesday. I hope things go well for him. I am also hoping to get rid of the seizure helmet for his sake but I understand if we can't. He is on so many meds right now, it's unreal.
this persisted several months until i developed an acute infection and was diagnosed with pneumonia and given 2 weeks of clarithromycin, when i visited the hospital i was told that my blood test indicated the presence of a bacterial infection. the pneumonia symptoms did not completely resolve so i was given another 2 weeks of clarithromycin which seemed to resolve the coughing to a manageable level. after this point the coughing gradually declined until it stopped completely.
Thanks for this forum I visited a massage parlor in San Fransisco 9 months ago. I had blowjob(with condom) and vaginal sex(with condom) about 5 mins. Condom not broken , not slipped and not tear. Washed carefully after that. When i asked her "she said about her health is clean". I got cold+ runny nose after 2 months and it got subsided by taking cold medications. After 8 months, i got fever and I visited doctor. Doctor didn't observed any infection in my ear and throat.
Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with me???? I took clarithromycin for pneumonia back in May, and within a few days I was experiencing acidic, watery bowel movements that would make the entire anal area itch terribly the rest of the day. After the antibiotics were done, I took probiotics and such. The concern was clostridium difficile colitis, of course. Weeks after I was off the antibiotics, I had pain in my chest area.
Hello dear experts, help me please. I have H pylori. Doctor prescribed: clarithromycin 500 mg (1 tablet twice a day), omeprazole 20 mg (1 tablet twice a day) and amoxicillin 500 mg (2 tablets twice a day). After just talking first and second doses I have bitter taste in my mouth. In addition, I feel weak and little scared. I am thinking, may be it is side effect or the medicine just has a bitter taste.
Firstly, I'm in the UK and so I'm aware that there will be differences between how things are treated and dealt with, however I would just like some general advice on what's been happening the past couple of weeks. I was taken into hospital by ambulance on Saturday with suspected pneumonia. I had a chest infection about 3/4 weeks ago for which I was prescribe amoxicillin which cleared it up initially but it returned again a few days later.

The severe illness and deaths associated with seasonal influenza epidemics are in large part the result of secondary complications, including primary viral pneumonia, secondary bacterial pneumonia (particularly with group A streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae), and exacerbations of underlying chronic conditions. These same complications may occur with H1N1 infection.
recently went for endoscopy, going to have a CT scan soon. had pneumonia and gastric pain at about this year feb or march. dont have symptoms like vomiting, feeling bloated before or after meals, i do not have nausea feelings or no abdomen pain. had medications like clarithromycin, omeprazole and amoxicillin. i keep burping. why ? will h. pylori cause bumps in stomach in different area ? is it possible that the bumps will go away when i constantly take the medications?

The organism Mycoplasma pneumoniae (M pneumoniae) can cause throat infections and lung infections such as pneumonia. M pneumoniae is contagious when it causes these infections. It can spread quickly through a family or other closely-knit group. Treatment with an antibiotic will keep the infection from spreading. Preventative measures include frequent hand washing or the use of alcohol-based hand rubs.
Last month, we had her an x-ray and we found out that she has an aspiration pneumonia. She became better while taking antibiotics (clarithromycin). After a month, she was confined in a hospital and her repeat x-ray diagnosis is PTB and or pneumonia, both lungs with consolidation of the right upper lobe and emphysematous changes. Pulmonary hyperaeration with low lying hemidiaphragms, haziness in both lungs, cardiac shadow appears enlarged. We are very worried because she has vsd. Thank you...
My 54-year-old wife was diagnosed with bronchiectasis (BE) about 4 years ago but did not have symptoms until this year, when she's had walking pneumonia in the spring, difficulty walking up hills, then a bad double pneumonia in August. Since then, she coughs daily with sputum production, has not really felt well at all, gets quite fatigued daily, has had a few fevers, and been in bed for 3 - 4 days a few more times this fall.
She has been taking Clarithromycin, Rifabutin, Ethambutol, ACETYLCYSTEINE, Ipratropium bromide, and Xopenex without improvement. She has no energy or appetite. Her pulmonologist and ID in Virginia seem content to letting her suffer with chronic coughing, wight loss, and a feeling of breathlessness. She is failing and we don't know where to turn. I've heard of a Center in Denver for NonTuberculous Mycobacterium, are there others?
