Clarithromycin (Biaxin in the US) is chemically similar to azithromycin (Zithromax), one of the standard drugs for several STDs. Since our last post, not only was on clarithromycin for 10 days, I was on doxycycline 100mg for 7 days for infected fire ant bite. While on Doxycycline I started to feel urgency to urinate and some dribbling after urination. (I was diagnosed last year for prostititis after being tested for bacterial std's.) I called my urologist and he suggested I go on cipro 500 twice a day for ten days. The symptoms of urinating and dribbling have not subsided.
He said even if I have an std clarithromycin should clear it up its a very strong anti-bacterial antibiotic. Is this true?

Also, I had urinalysis dipsticks in the house and tested myself to see if I had UTI symptoms caused by possible chlamydia (white blood cells in urine, nitrates, etc) and it was all clear.

On the 13th of December, I went to see a urologist as I had had some UTI-type symptoms for a week or so (I didn't suspect Chlamydia or any STD for that matter at the time, as I have had few sexual partners, and always use condoms - also not a big fan of receiving oral sex).
The next week my doctor switched me to clarithromycin for my throat. 27 days after the encounter while still taking clarithromycin for my throat infection, I began to have symptoms for chlamydia/gonorrhea. I have not had any discharge or pain/burning while urinating but I have had pain/tickle in my urethra after urination along with pain while driving?? I went to my doctor and he swabbed me for a test for which he has not received the results from yet.
d just finished a week course of clarithromycin for a chest infection. The doctor said that this drug could have cleared up a chlamydia infection if I'd had one.
Saturday-Monday...too early for many STD tests. Only gonorrhea would be possible to tell at that point.

We’ve been married 10 years now and aside from the one oral sex incident neither of us has been with any other people sexually. I went to the doctor who dismissed an STD and gave clarithromycin. Two weeks after finishing the antibiotics, I still had this drip after urinating but less discomfort so I got tested for gonorrhea and Chlamydia again—both negative.
Here are my questions:

Three days ago I had a full STD screening done wherein I gave a urine sample and a throat swab. Yesterday I gave blood samples for early detection STD tests using RNA PCR.
My urine and throat swab PCR test results came back yesterday. I'm clear of Gonnorrhea and Clamydia however I tested positive for Mycoplasma Hominis and Mycoplasma Genitalium. I thought these couldn't be acquired by oral sex but I guess they can.
The encounter you describe is a no risk event for acquisition of any STD. Further you have been tested, repeatedly. There is just no reason for you to worry.

No. the timing of urination does not make a meaningful difference. No reason to worry.
2) During this period i took clarithromycin, cephalexin and lysozyme chloride for my sore throat. Does these antibiotics affect my test result?
I know I should use azithromycin with ceftriaxone for gonorrhea but she prescribed me clarithromycin. So, this is a wrong treatment for gonorrhea. I don’t know what to do with those ignorant doctors.

My mom was recently diagnosed with Hep C associated cirrhosis. She has had some complications, including esophageal varices and ascites. She remains fairly well compensated and does not exhibit symptoms such as fatigue or confusion.
During an endoscopy her doctor also noticed an ulcer and tested her for H pylori (which was positive). He's prescribed Prevpac to kill the bacteria and heal the ulcer.
3 days after the event I had a sinus infection and was prescribed 500mg er Clarithromycin for 7 days. While on that antibiotic I was bit by a a fire ant and the bite became infected so 100mg twice a day for 7 days. I was on antibiotic treatment for 17days straight.(doesn't it usually take longer than that for a lesion to occur for transmission?
Having diarrhea after antibiotics is not rare, but also not normal. I recommend you to have stool test for C-diff and for occult blood.
Having problems with breathing is probably from the acid coming up into your throat and then down into lungs. You should fix this promptly, it may damage your lungs (aspiration pneumonia, with lung scars).
There's another possibility - alergy to one of antibiotics. Would you say you have any lips or face swelling or skin itching?
As fas as I know, nexium (esomeprazole) only interferes with biaxin (clarithromycin). It heightens the amount of esomeprazole by inhibiting the degradation of esomeprazole.
