Clarithromycin dosage for adults

Common Questions and Answers about Clarithromycin dosage for adults

biaxin

Avatar f tn Below is copied from Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines for Lyme (posted on the ILADS website), including an entry on doxycycline [aka doxy] dosage: "Adults: 200 mg bid [meaning twice a day] with food; doses of up to 600 mg daily are often needed, as doxycycline is only effective at high blood levels." So perhaps your doc's doses are on the light side -- I'd ask him, but sometimes docs get huffy. I'd ask him anyway. It's your health we're talking about.
Avatar f tn Will it be sufficient for the cure with regular dosage or please suggest any additional measure.
Avatar m tn I found out that I have gonorrhoea. I have had it for about two months already. It's in my rectum and my throat. I know that ciaftriaxone is the recommended treatment, however I am unable to get it. The medication available to me is clarithromycin (klacid). Will this be effective in curing the gonorrhoea? What dosage should I take? Please help!
Avatar n tn Thanks for the replies. I am too old to be pregnant. Was prescribed the chlarithromycin for post flu respiratory infection. Yes the flu made me nauseous but the drug made the nausea worse. I definitely now have gut problems - gas, diarrhoea, nausea, salivation etc. Yes, I will try the probiotics and peppermint tea & make an appointment to see the Dr.
Avatar n tn For ulcer treatment, Amoxil is combined with other medications. There are several dosage regimens available, and your doctor will choose the best one for you. If your kidneys are severely impaired or you are undergoing hemodialysis, the doctor may have to adjust your dosage accordingly. Children older than 3 months: Children weighing 88 pounds and over should follow the recommended adult dose schedule. Children weighing under 88 pounds will have their dosage determined by their weight.
Avatar m tn Clarithromycin isn't the treatment of choice for any STD. However, it would effectively prevent most cases of gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). But not all. Antibiotics, including clarithromycin, have no effect on viruses and therefore cannot prevent herpes, HPV, or HIV.
Avatar f tn Could symptons show for me not even hrs after having vaginal/oral intercourse? I have and am being treated for Lyme Dease and one of the meds I take is 500 mg of Clarithromycun twice a day, would that prevent me/get rid of clamydia if I did indeed get it? Also, is it true you need to wait atleast a couple of days after intercourse to get tested for it to be accurate? I'm sorry for spelling/grammar or any stupid questions, it's 2:30 am and I am FREAKING out!
Avatar m tn Administration should not be repeated for at least three days. For the prophylaxis of gout flares, the adjusted dosage should be 0.3 mg once a day if the original regimen was 0.6 mg twice a day, and 0.3 mg once every other day if the original regimen was 0.6 once a day. For the treatment of familial Mediterranean fever, the maximum dosage of colchicine is 0.6 mg/day (may be given as 0.3 mg twice a day) when used in the presence of potent CYP450 3A4 inhibitors.
Avatar f tn So, had brief encounter with sex worker. I am a male and she a female, just for clarity and accuracy of response though I'm confident that this is irrelevant. In any case, I received oral sex lasting only a couple minutes then shortly after completed with handjob. Anyway, that night I had extreme regrets as this not something I regularly do, only once before. So in my anxious state, I thought it best to be proactive and see if I could prevent any full infection from developing.
907968 tn?1292622204 I imagine they're trained to know which medications work best for which heart problems. As for dosage, I'm not sure. If you look at a PDR the book mentions standard dosages for children, adults and geriatric folks. I know with the antibiotics I use at work we choose which antibiotic works best for which type of injury or specific bacteria. I always calculate dosage according to species (mammals have a different calculation compared to birds or reptiles) and weight.
Avatar n tn I am having trouble finding out what is a safe maximum dosage of Diamox for psuedotumor cerebri. When I had asked my daughters neurologist this question, she said there is no maximum dosage which I found hard to believe that there wouldn't be a max dose on any medication. My daughter is 15 yrs old and had been prescribed a total of 2500 mg per day divided into 3 doses. Does anyone know the max dose for diamox? Thanks!
Avatar n tn I’ve read that the average dosage for adults is 30 mg/day. I’m a 25 year old male. I weigh 220 lbs. and am 5’11”. The only other medication I’m on is 100 mg of Zoloft/day for the treatment of depression. I have no prior medical issues. What would be the appropriate dosage range for me if I were to take this medication? I’ve read that it may have negative effects on the heart. I’m considering talking with my PCP about this but am trying to find out on my own first. Would 60 mg/day be too much?
Avatar f tn Hi everyone, My mom was recently diagnosed with Hep C associated cirrhosis. She has had some complications, including esophageal varices and ascites. She remains fairly well compensated and does not exhibit symptoms such as fatigue or confusion. During an endoscopy her doctor also noticed an ulcer and tested her for H pylori (which was positive). He's prescribed Prevpac to kill the bacteria and heal the ulcer.
Avatar n tn m allergic to Penicillin and Sulfa, I just finished taking Doxycycline for a week and feel better. Thanks for the information.
Avatar m tn Having diarrhea after antibiotics is not rare, but also not normal. I recommend you to have stool test for C-diff and for occult blood. Having problems with breathing is probably from the acid coming up into your throat and then down into lungs. You should fix this promptly, it may damage your lungs (aspiration pneumonia, with lung scars). There's another possibility - alergy to one of antibiotics. Would you say you have any lips or face swelling or skin itching?
Avatar f tn Oh, my, MB, THIS is where you belong! For sure, for sure! For one thing so many of us already know you. For another, Autoimmune Encephalitis is the closest mimic to MS that is known. So we here are going through very much what you are going through. We already have 2 others here as permanent members who have been diagnosed with ADEM (Acute Disseminated EncephaloMyelitis). Santana is one and I can't remember right off the other. So we talk about it all the time.
Avatar n tn my 14 weeks baby girl weighing 12 pounds spits up at least 3 to 4 times every feed (4 feeds per day) and she burps many times as well and she gets all cranky and fussy while burping or spitting.. She doesn't cry excessively but she just seems annoyed and we need to keep distracting her..
Avatar f tn As fas as I know, nexium (esomeprazole) only interferes with biaxin (clarithromycin). It heightens the amount of esomeprazole by inhibiting the degradation of esomeprazole. Macrobid is nitrofurantoin, not clarithromycin. You may also look here: http://www.ehealthme.com/drug_interactions_side_effects/Nexium-2792078.

Avatar n tn (Tigecycline is a derivative of Minocycline – see previous) Clarithromycin is active against most strains of M. abscessus, and current expert opinion recommends clarithromycin monotherapy for localised cutaneous disease, and combination therapy including clarithromycin and parenteral agents for treatment of disseminated infection, pulmonary infection or extensive cutaneous disease.1,11 Many isolates of M.
Avatar m tn Clarithromycin (Biaxin in the US) is chemically similar to azithromycin (Zithromax), one of the standard drugs for several STDs. Although it has not been studied extensively against STDs, it undoubtedly is effective in either treating or preventing all the infections that respond to azithromycin. In the dose you were give, you were protected from chlamydia, nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), gonorrhea, and probably syphilis.
Avatar f tn For adults, we often say that FT4 ought to be about midrange. Babies, however, run higher levels of FT4 than adults. The FT4 range you provide doesn't appear to be age-adjusted (it looks like an adult range). Perhaps your pedi endo is adfvising you to increase because he knows babies should have higher levels??? Also, her TSH is quite high, and this usually indicates that a meds increase is in order.
600857 tn?1230057770 Hi all, it's me Gretchen. I had my 3rd Nuerolysis yesterday. Lets hope this works for awhile. My question is. My Pain Mgmt DR upped my Nuerontin to 300mg 2x day. He took me off the Valium and Baclofen. He said Valium is not good long term and by upping the Nuerontin I won't need Baclofen. OK. As of yet, no bad side effects, yet I've heard many say things about Nuerontin. Any input would be greatly appreciated. One last thing. I've been feeling amped out.
