Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram withdrawal weight gain

celexa

Avatar f tn No dry mouth or weight loss instead headaches, ringing in my ears, clenched jaw, continued weight gain and irritability. Is this a different reaction to the wellbutrin or due to the combination of the two drugs? The headaches are more recent so I figured they may be withdrawal from the citalopram. I will be really disappointed if the wellbutrin doesn't work this time!
Avatar f tn I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!
Avatar n tn ve been on citalopram (including myself) and there was no weight gain. However, weight gain is listed under possible side effects, so it does happen to some people. But it's not like mood stabilisers, where the weight gain is very likely. I wouldn't worry about it. Most things that are listed under the side effects of any given drug are very rare.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was started on nefazadone hydrochloride years ago, worked well but was withdrawn from the market, citalopram for about 12 years, weight gain and few other side effects. stopped working. Escitalopram gave me fast hearbeat as did trazadone, Setraline fast or slow and irreg heartbeat. Never considered effexor xr/venlafaxine as i was so put off with the reviews of weight gain and the awful discontinuation symptoms. Prozac was great but major weight gain in two months.
Avatar f tn Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?
Avatar n tn Is it the actual increase in hunger that causes weight gain or the tablet itself? I am quite worried about this as my body image issues make me scared about putting on weight..
Avatar n tn t and I know of at least one other person who had no problems with stopping the paxil. I did not gain weight on the paxil and in fact lost a lot while on it (one had nothing to do with the other cause I lost the weight years later on the paxil).
Avatar n tn He thinks it made me gain weight. I kmow take wellbutrin (twice a day). I hope this helps me lose the weight. How are you???
Avatar f tn Was on citalopram for 21 years and everyone I know put weight on. When I swopped for rhodiola rosea for a year I lost 5 stones. Some are def worse than others for weight gain. Contrary to popular beliefs I gained on fluoxetine too. Off antidepressants I'm about 8 half stone.
Avatar f tn I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain. Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.
2217782 tn?1394363972 You can easily find your BMI and monitor your weight. If this drug is having you gain any excess weight, and I think that because you know what the side effects of both Wellbutrin and Citalopram are, (weight loss right?) you are more than capable of eating right and exercising. Don't let the nay sayers knock you off your new pony!!! Good luck with mum.
Avatar f tn i really need to change as the weight gain can not go on, i have even considered stopping my medication which would mean having my anxiety and panic disorder back in full force....
711224 tn?1344771687 Remeron has been associated with increased appetite and weight gain. Some antidepressants that causes less weight again include Wellbutrin, Celexa, and Trazodone.

My anxiety is centered around my heart and the fear of having a heart attack and developing a heart condition. I guess you could call it Cardio-Neurosis. This is exasperated by PVC's / PAC's (skipped beats) and Palpitations.
Avatar n tn Is there any anitdepressant out there that does not have the side effect of weight gain. Me gaining weight is making me depressed!
Avatar m tn Now I have such terrible side effects from saphris I believe- went to family doc for tests, ev okay but have swelling of extremities, extreme sleepiness, food has no taste except sweets and weight gain of 30 pounds in 4-6 weeks. My psychiatrist is leery of taking me off of saphris, but now I am so miserable and my depression is coming back anyways. ANy suggestions? Oh I heard from a friend that Risperdal is a good "booster" for other anti-depressants.
Avatar n tn Sabrina, yes paxil, like all the other ssri's can cause weight gain. The medication that doesn't is wellbutrin, or if anxiety is the main symptom, klonopin. You should adjust to tiredness within a week, if not, then maybe the dose is too high for you. Re obesity, you have to learn how to stop stress eating, which is probably more difficult for you because of your anxiety. the best way to do that is to take the course at www.shrinkyourself.com, or consult a therapist.
