Citalopram weight loss

Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram weight loss

celexa

I had weight loss issues with the IBS symptoms- since a major side effect of Citalopram can be weight gain, is the fact that I'm merely holding weight now instead of losing it a result of Citalopram? i.e. if I wasn't on it, would I still be losing weight?
I just saw a new doctor and he believes the Citalopram is causing my weight gain. I have been on it for about 18 months. I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!

If this drug is having you gain any excess weight, and I think that because you know what the side effects of both Wellbutrin and Citalopram are, (weight loss right?) you are more than capable of eating right and exercising. Don't let the nay sayers knock you off your new pony!!! Good luck with mum.
I have not tried Citalopram, but have bad anixety. It has made lose alot of weight. I really can't affort to lose weight because I am of small structure. It is amazing what anxiety could do to one in no time at all. I also lost 8 lbs.
some are even known to cause weight loss. If ANY part of your depression centered around your weight, your doctor should not have put you on one that is notorious for weight gain. I looked up the side effects for Celexa and found listed under GI: Anorexia and decreased appetite. But please understand that we all react differently to medications. I've known people to LOSE weight on Prozac...........so don't take anything as gospel until you've given it a fair trial.
One of the less serious side effects of Nortripyline is weight changes (this could be weight gain or weight loss). Mirtazapine is a tetracyclic antidepressant. It affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause depression. It is thought to increase the activity of norepinephrine and serotonin which help elevate mood. Remeron is used to treat major depressive disorder.
i am now taking 300 mg of wellbutrin and 90 cymbalta. I thought these 2 meds were known to be weight neutral or cause weight loss. My doctor knows my concern about the weight issue as this is something I have never fought to maintain while everything else in life seems to be a fight. If I stopped taking all meds, would I lose the weight and go back to my normal size. I do lack motivation that's for sure! I think or say I will start a program and don't.
What do you thnk about fluanxol injections weight gain or weight loss?
Hi I switched from Fluoxetine to Citalopram about 6 months ago as the Fluoxetine was making me gain weight. Since I've been on Citalopram I've put on even more, and am now about 2 stone (14kg) heavier than I was before I started. I don't want to come off ADs as they're helping me so much, but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with any more weight gain. Has anyone experienced weight gain with certain antidepressants then been able to lose with a different one?
He gave me a Prescription for Wellbutrin, will this help with the weight loss? Will I be able to the weight or does it permanently change your metabolism? Now that I am over weight it is not helping with my self image. I do feel I need some medication to help with my anxiety is this a good choice? Are the side effects minimal?
Celexa (citalopram) has been reported to cause both weight loss and weight gain, but is less likely than the other agent to cause your weight gain. You are also taking Synthroid, which may indicate a history of hypothyroidism. An under active thyroid can also cause weight gain. It may be helpful to have a laboratory test done to check your thyroid function. In choosing a psychiatric medication as part of a treatment strategy a physician consider different factors i.e.
in the SSRI family: citalopram (celexa), fluoxetine (prozac), sertraline (zoloft). Another medication that is sometimes added to SSRI in the treatment of depression is bupropion (welbutrin) and it has even been shown to cause a small weight loss over the first few months (it suppresses the appetite).
Yes, weight loss does play a large part in the health of the hair! Genetics don't necessarily mean gradual thinning - hair fall occurs in different patterns for different people. I was going to go for clip ins until I was strictly advised against them, as the clips actually pull on the already weak hair and cause further loss!!!!
Bupropion is unlikely to cause weight gain, and in fact, may cause some weight loss. It is also used to help people quit smoking.
But the key is to burn more than you eat and most people are still taking in way too many calories -- ie many think that 1500-2000 calories per day should promote weight loss -- this is maintenance at best....
Hi, I was scared too! And I even went and found a site that has nothing but the bad side effects and then went and found another site that was all good stuff! So...I have to say WB has worked for me...and I am terrible at reading labels and side effects info...I worry I will get all of them!! I am only 150 daily...if I got to 300 my ears ring... Good luck and let me know how it works out!
Citalopram has side effects that include weight changes, which in some cases means weight gain and others weight loss. The weight gain is generally minimal, and can typically be eliminated through dietary changes. If you have an eating disorder in which low body weight is an issue, then talk to your physician about how you feel about the possible weight gain as a side effect.
There's a cardiologist at medhelp on the weight loss and healthy lifestyle expert forum. Could it be serotonin syndrome? Is definitely best to follow it up with your doctor and get everything resolved.
which antidepressant is the best for weight loss. my doctor just took me off of effexor and put me on citalopram. have been on effexor for about 5 years, just doesn't seem to be working anymore.
I am taking citalopram, wellbutrin and phentermine My weight is going up and I am sweating all the time. is it because of this combo of meds? What can I take for weight loss?.
I was on it for about a year 3 years ago. I loved it! The only side effects were dry mouth and weight loss(not a negative). About 5 months ago my doctor put me on citalopram which made me feel like a zombie and I started gaining weight so we decided to switch to the wellbutrin. I have been on the wellbutrin for about 7 weeks now and off the citalopram for a little over 1 week. Im having a completely different experience than I did before.
Paroxetine (Paxil) may be more likely cause a significant weight gain than other drugs of this type (like fluoxetine or sertraline). Studies about citalopram found no significant weight changes for most patients (but a minority of about 5% of the patients had a weight gain of more than 5 kg). Now let us look at some other antidepressants: Buproprion (Zyban) reports weight loss in the course of therapy (caused by antihistaminic effects).
I started taking the Sertraline (Zoloft) and it was making me feel sickly, I have already lost a lot of weight through loss of appetite so I didn't need that. How long does it take for that sickly feeling to stop? I have been prescribed the following in the past which didn't work: Fluoxetine (Prozac), Citalopram (Celexa). Should i stick with the Zoloft or should i try the Mirtazapine?
Abnormal dreams, acne, aggressive behavior, alcohol intolerance, angina ( chest pain ), arthritis, belching, bone pain, breast enlargement, breast pain, bronchitis, bruising, chills, conjunctivitis (pinkeye), decreased muscle movements, delusions, dermatitis, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, dizziness, drug dependence, dry eyes, dry skin, eczema, emotional instability, excessive milk flow, excessive muscle tone, eye pain, fainting, feeling of well-being, flu-like symptoms, flushing,
• Venlafaxine (Effexor) • Bupropion (Wellbutrin) • some SSRIs, such as Fluoxetine (Prosac), Sertraline (Zoloft), and Citalopram (Celexa). You are asking if there is an anti-depressant that is the less likely to cause weight gain than Effexor. As you can see, Effexor is amongst the least likely to cause weight gain, and in fact, is known to contribute to weight loss. You may wish to try an alternative on the list above. It is unclear why anti-depressants cause weight gain.

I started taking celexa about 5 months ago for mild depression and more recently phentermine for weight loss but these jerking movements were happening way before the phentermine. Can't seem to relate anything else to it. Is it possible the Celexa could cause that? Just curious if anyone else has had or ever had that before. Thanks!
For the last nine weeks I have had symptoms including loose bowel movements that sometimes float, sporadic diarrhea, weight loss of 20 pounds, indigestion, belching, abdominal discomfort (sometimes a stomach ache, sometimes pressure directly below my sternum), back pain (which I can`t determine if it`s muscular or related to the other symptoms), early feeling of fullness, and at the beginning- loss of appetite...my appetite has slightly returned, but I still get full quickly.
