Those particular side effects are very common with citalopram and hopefully will soon abate. We cannot tell you to take ANY kind of medication, even aspirin or Tylenol. Call your local pharmacist and ask him/her if there are any contraindications, which I doubt there are. Remember that pharmacists are DOCTORS of pharmacology and any questions you have regarding scripts or OTCs they can answer. Pharmas ROCK!
I had nausea and a dry mouth, then the following day I had a severe migraine-type headache. After a week the side-effects had lessened and within a few weeks I had started to feel the benefit of them. My advice would be to stick with them until you go back to see your doctor and then discuss it with them.
I am on 50 mg of citalopram daily for anxiety and deppresion but about eight weeks ago started to suffer from a headache after coughing hard , the pain is in the left side of my head and hurt more when I coughed or crouched down.

Hi Linda, perhaps this is interesting for you. After starting treatment with SSRI it will take some weeks to be effective. There is a lot of research about SSRI and Interferon induced depression.
I know from past experience that citalopram withdrawals are a special kind of hell, and I've tried to stop before, but the withdrawal symptoms were crippling. However I'm finding the side effects of this medication to be limiting my life and work -extreme fatigue, and brain fog, along with a rather embarrassing stutter that I have recently developed when tired, among other things.
I don't know much about the side effects of citalopram but my husband is on effexor and had tried to come off it and when he cuts back he does feel it. It does however help him with back pain and when he isn't on it he is in terrible pain. I think the effexor made him cold and exact with little feelings behind his thoughts etc. But his doctor has added another med and the two together have really started to bring back his feelings. You want help but you don't want to not have any emotions.
This should be taken as prescribed because it has a tendency to be habit-forming. Unfortunately, possible side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, fast heart rate, skin rash, upset stomach, and headache (reference:http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a682578.html) To rule out if your symptoms are possibly related to this medicine, check with your doctor and shift to other prescribed medications. Take care and do keep us posted.
tomorrow and he won't have any problem putting me back on paxil, like I said, its the only med that worked without any side effects. I will also have to call my obgyn and get antibiodics for the bacterial infections that might be the cause of the hp virus to have shown in my pap. I cant understand where these infections came from. thanks again Kelly.
ONE important thing to remember that I learned, and have never forgotten is that these two effects CANNOT exist without anxiety.....but that anxiety can exist without these sensations. Derealization is basically a change, an alteration in the PERCEPTION or experience of the external world....in other words...everything LOOKS very strange, very "unreal" (movie like, in my experiences). Depersonalization is a subjective experience of unreality of one's self. So the difference is...
The most common side effects associated with citalopram are nausea, dry mouth, vomiting, excessive sweating, headache, tremor, drowsiness, and inability to sleep. Overall, between 1 in 6 and 1 in 5 persons experience a side effect. Citalopram is also associated with sexual dysfunction. Some patients may experience withdrawal reactions upon stopping citalopram.
Citalopram All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome when using Citalopram: Decreased sexual desire or ability; diarrhea; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth; increased sweating; lightheadedness when you stand or sit up; loss of appetite; nausea; stuffy nose; tiredness.
Hi I have been taking citalopram for four days had some side effects but for the most part I have coped with several trips to the hospital with one dr saying stop taking it and another saying work through the side effects and take librium when needed to help when the anxiety wont go. The main thing I am worried about it that I have had a heart problem with svt which I had ablated in october.
When I miss just one day I have major side effects, (dizzy, hand tremors, Major headache, loss of appetite, ect.) But my doctor says as long as I don't miss to often he wants to keep me on it because he has had so many good results with it. When I take it like I should, everyday not missing, I am pretty good about not being depressed, but my doctor just recently re-diagnosed (spelling) me as Bipolar - manic depressive.
The symptoms that you are describing sound like generalized anxiety to me but as im sure you are aware there are side effects with most medications you take. Most are just mild e.g headache, dry mouth. Side effects usually disappear within a week or 2 so you can either try to put up with these unpleasant feeling or go back to your gp. Personally i would go to my GP even if its just for peace of mind. Good Luck.
Hi there, I just finished reading your comments. Are you taking any prescription medications of any kind ? Some prescription medications have a light headed feeling as a side effect. You said you have had phases of depression. During those phases of depression, did your doctor prescribe antidepressants? Many years ago, one doctor put me on a certain kind of antidepressant. I took that antidepressant for several years. Then for whatever reason that antidepressant stopped working for me.
I hadn't heard of Citalopram before today. So, you probably know this drug is an antidepressant.
My MD gave me esgic plus and it works well, especially if I catch the headache when it is just starting. Eventually the frequency of the side effects and headaches diminishes with almost all the meds. Good luck with your search for the right drug, I hope that your MD is making sure that you are trying the meds for at least 4-6 weeks before you switch to another.
I blamed it on a new pill setraline i had been put on as the symptoms coincided with this and it was noted as one of the side effects. I have since been changed to prozac for a few weeks which I had been on a few months before without this problem. I am still getting the pulse problems and don't know what to do. I had a 24 hour tape but was okay that day typically, I need it fixed. I am constantly tired and feel like i'm running a marathon at times. The bisoprolol helps a bit.
Also tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Some items may interact with your medicine. What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?
Hi....Sorry you had such a bad experience with the Sertraline. I take it with no problems but unfortunately that's the way it is with AD's. We never know how we'll respond to them until we try them. Since you had such a serious reaction to the Sertraline your doctor will look at what may be better for you (make sure you're medication is being prescribed by a psychiatrist). Everything comes with side effects but that doesn't mean each of us will have any. It's truly an individual thing.
I feel like I am wearing a glove and a tight sock on the right side (but sort of like that over the whole side, including my face and head). Even the inside of my mouth and tongue are affected. It effects the way I walk as I can't feel the ground beneath my foot properly so constantly in fear of falling over. I suffer terrible migraines with the pain centering around the right temple. I feel mildy dizzy all the time with vertigo at times.

Sometimes prolonged use of omeprazole can cause problems with digestion and a feeling of tightness. Side effects of Prilosec may include headache, nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, or constipation. So, your symptoms could be a side effect of the medications you're taking. Discuss this with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medications. Regards.
Lexapro worked well for me after the initial side effects subsided. Of course, I was taking other prescribed antidepressants at the same time. I no longer take it as I don't have insurance. I take the generic predecessor to Lexapro, citalopram, which also seems to be helping me. In my particular case I did not find it made me sleepy, but reactions to psychiatric medications are often very subjective. I recommend you give it at least six weeks to see how it works for you.
I was on the Effexor for about 5 weeks and had an allergic reation to it.. rash and all the worst side effects you could have. I tapered off that which has been horrible. I am now left with a bad headache and extreme fatique and lack of strength. What can I do to feel better, without having to go back on the meds.
I get it in my head, on my face, my legs, arms, and EVERYWHERE!!! I dont know if its from my medicine, I have had side effects from it, its called Citalopram. I havent been taking it though because I have been having issues with it, and I didnt take it for a night, then took a pill, then didnt take one the next night, and then took only half a pill, and now its been two days since I have taken one. I didnt see anything about tingling on the side effects.
And by stick it out, I don't mean the severity of the side effects you're experiencing now, I just mean taking the Lexapro. IN regards to the start up side effects.... The GOOD news is, that MOST times, the side effects are pretty short lived, with most people seeing improvements after about 1-2 weeks, with the side effects abating completely shortly after that. What dose where you started out on? You are doing the right thing by talking to your doctor about this.
