Citalopram kick in

Common Questions and Answers about Citalopram kick in

lexapro

Avatar f tn It worked well for me when i remembered to take it. You have to give it at least a week for it to kick in. I don't think i felt the affects of it at all until i ended up increasing it to fast. I went up to 2 pills of 40 mg and i found it worked well for me. But if you are looking for somethign that you want a instance or close to it anti - anxiety, you need to ask your doctor to give you pills that are not SSRI.
Avatar n tn I've taken it for a couple years. It's the only SSRI that didn't give me insomnia. It does take 4-6 weeks for the full effect, but you should be feeling somewhat better by now. Also your dose may need to be upped if it just doesn't kick in after a month or so. Give it a chance. Hope you feel better soon.
Avatar n tn One is a benzo, used on an as needed bases and the citalopram is an SSRI. In my experience, many doctors will prescribe a benzo when you start an SSRI. SSRIs can take weeks to 'kick in,' and for one to start feeling its benefits. Did you just start taking citalopram?
581954 tn?1223391496 I have used this in the past and it is a type of medication grouped into SSRIs (Zoloft (Sertraline), Paxil, Prozac, Lexapro, etc. These affect people in different ways, so it is sometimes hard to say how each individual will react. I am a big proponent for these types of medications COMBINED with talk therapy. In my opinion, there is no 'magic pill' that will 'cure' you of anxiety or depression.
Avatar f tn Yes, give it a few weeks. The unfortunate part is that it generally gets worse before it gets better. Keep a close eye on how you are feeling and don't be afraid to call your doctor if anything comes up that you don't like. I had a really adverse reaction to paxil and it helped to call my doctor right away and get her advice (which was to stop IMMEDIATELY.
348629 tn?1212325673 its generidc i wana no any bad expeirces any good expeirces how long it took to kick in ect sorry mispelled junk keys stickin on laptop citopram
Avatar n tn They do not receive kick backs from the big pharmas like doctors do, so they have no vested interest in promoting one drug over another. And drugs are their business, whereas doctors really only know what the drug reps tell them. The reps also have a tendency to skip over the negative aspects of the pills they are pushing. I trust the books I get my information from, but it's best to speak with your doctor/pharma before jumping back on your treadmill.
1215447 tn?1266416918 Hi, If you & your husband are not trying to have children, and thus the B.C. pills, until your anti-depressants kick in, I would use a "rubber" along with your BC pill. Meanwhile, while you're doing that, I would ck out the internet site that is put out by the makers of your anti-depressant (apo-citalopram or "citalopram") and look under the medicine's description.
Avatar f tn when I started taking 100mg of Zoloft from 50mg for yrs,I have mild diareah.(sp?) I felt like I could vomit too,but never did.Plus my appetite was almost nothing.I ate maybe a sandwich and a yogurt all day.But I drank lots of water. It all went away after awhile. I would talk to your doctor about your side effects. Good luck!
Avatar n tn I have just started taking Citalopram for Depression and Anxiety in the last few weeks. I've forgotten again to ask my doctor whether I can drink taking the medication. My dose is 30mg per day at the minute if this has anything to do with it. I don't want to go on a binge drinking session I just want to know if I can have a few drinks pints when out. Can anybody with experience of taking Citalopram help me out with whether there are any effects?
Avatar f tn Give a look at this thread http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Anxiety/Back-on-Cipralex-Lexapro/show/1557045 It chronicles his journey to getting better and what he felt with the lexapro he was taking. You will see how he was in the beginning and how great he was doing at the end. I know it is lengthy so maybe you can skip the posts that are not by CanuckGuy but try to at least read what he himself wrote.
Avatar n tn i was on Citalopram for only a week, it gave me side effects, but i was only on 10mg, funny thing is my anxiety started to go and i felt better mentally but i then developed side effects to it that were too much.... what a kick in the f***y eh.... Maybe the dose you were on before wasn't enough for your body. If you go back onto it maybe the dose could be increased to suit you more. You know i have had that rooting to the spot thing before...
Avatar m tn To review the pharmacological and non-clinical literature that describes the inhibition of escitalopram by R-citalopram, as well as the implications of this inhibition for the clinical efficacy of escitalopram compared to citalopram. METHODS: The information in this review was gathered from published articles and abstracts.
Avatar m tn 1 mixture of (S)-Citalopram and (R)-Citalopram]; Escitalopram [(S)-Citalopram) is a pure enantiomer. The dosages for Escitalopram are typically 1/2 of those for Citalopram, and there are fewer side effects, suggesting that most side effects come from the (R)-enantiomer.'' Basically escitalopram is the new citalopram with less side-effects and requires only half the dosage and I think it is the reason for it's cheaper price. -http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn During those three months I have been on three different antidepressants (Poraxetine, Zoloft, and Citalopram). Presently, I am on citalopram 10 mil. I started out on the 20 mil but my body could not take it, my anxiety increased ten fold. I was put on the 10 mil for 7 to 10 days and then tried the 20 mil. But again the anxiety increased, and I had muscle twitching and involuntary muscle jerking while seated and in bed at night.
5601775 tn?1370714517 That's great news. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. Yes, it can take awhile for the meds to start working. We're all so different it's really hard to say how long. It may be within a week or it could be a few weeks. You do sound much better.
Avatar f tn I am now taking half a pill of Citalopram in order to wean myself off of it. My doctor then prescribed me Bupropion HCL (take twice a day). He says that should help with weight loss. Has anyone had good experiences with Bupropion? Did you gain weight on Citalopram? Thanks!!!
Avatar f tn SSRIs like this can affect us all in different ways in my opinion. In my experience, I benefited positively on using medications like citalopram (Celexa). Whenever I start, stop, or adjust dosage my body does go through an 'adjustment' period where my anxiety does increase a little bit.
Avatar n tn hi how long does citalopram take to leave your system.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am a 54 year old male with severe anxiety and am taking 40 mg of citalopram and lotrel for bp issues. I recently read that citalopram can cause long qt syndrome and since my anxiety issues are driven by my health, I am concerned. My resting heart rate is in the low 50's, I have no family history of long qt, but with my low heart rate I wonder if I should cease to use citalopram. My doctor does not feel this is a problem but I thought I should seek other opinions Thanks .
695983 tn?1242774124 If you been on the meds for a while then you are getting ill, chances are it's not the med. Have you been on other meds in this class before? Citalopram is a good drug and the side effects are pretty minimal for most. I would get a full check up to make sure you rule out bladder/kidneys infections. Anxiety can cause tummy troubles, I've had the trots from anxiety in the past, and I've had peed more from that as well.
1767754 tn?1313873884 There are often contradictions like this with medications and that's why we rely on our doctor to do what is best. He has you on salt pills which I would think is to counteract any issues regarding the sodium. You owe it to yourself to give this a try. There is an adjustment period for the first week or two and then it takes 2-4 weeks for it to reach a full therapeutic level in your system. You won't know how much better you will feel until you try it. If still in doubt...
