i was also on Lexapro, but it became expensive so I am on Celexa which is a sister medication to Lexapro. Celexa has a generic called Citalopram. However, you might need to take a higher dose of Celexa if it is a good idea for you to switch. Talk to your doc to make sure.....Just my thoughts.

Hi. I've been on Citalopram (Celexa) since May. 20 mg. For anxiety. I've been a student in Germany since 2009. Last month when I flew back home to India for a holiday, my doctor there replenished my medication stock for me. But he gave me a 6 month supply of Escitalopram (Lexapro) instead of Citalopram. Escitalopram is just the S enantiomer of citalopram, and apparently has better anti-anxiety effects. Today I finished my previous stock of Citalopram.

I agree with mammo, Citalopram which is the generic of Celexa is almost identical to Lexapro. Lexapro is just a newer version of Celexa. Stopping anti-depressants cold turkey can cause severe withdrawal symptoms. I took it for a while and it only cost 4$ at Target.

Lexapro and Celexa are not interchangeable, and they are not approved for all of the same uses. Both are approved for the treatment of depression. However, only Lexapro is approved to treat anxiety.

celexa generic citalopram and brand name cipram in the the eastern countries is produced by the same Danish company which produces cipralex/lexapro/escitalopram. In different forums one finds many pts using it. it's weaker than lexapro, exactly half its therapeutic dose in maximum and minimum. BP pts take wellbutrin, celexa, lexapro in the majority of the cases. A few take seroxat/paxil to go with lamictal.

Citalopram is generic for Celexa, that's what I take. It's an AD/antianxiety med and it can really mess up your sex life. Any of them can that contain both.

hey all i have been on celexa 40 mg for a month or so after swithcing from lexapro 20 mg for a month due to insurance. i also take in 05 mg of clonazapam with my celexa in the morning when i most anxious. i feel like the celexa just doesnt help alone with anxiety. i feel guilty sometimes haveing to take 2 meds but that being said i think the clonazepam works best! i heear so many bad stories about klonopin but i am taking a small dose and i am aware of the addictive quality so im catious.

You have to taper off. There are lots of horror stories from those who went cold turkey. I was on 30 per day and went down to 20, 10 and am at 5. Each taper is 2 weeks and I have 1 week left to go for the 5s. So far the effects are not very noticeable. You should talk to a pharmacist if you can't afford a doctor as there are different tapering strategies.

t know much about the Anti-depressant you are taking but I did a little research for you and found that Celexa is the generic name of a drug called Citalopram. It is worth your while to read the drug fact sheet for this medication.

I have been on citalopram 40mg (generic for celexa) for almost 8 weeks now I still have the ups and downs I would like to think that I am more up than down but I still have my moments especially when I have nothing else to occupy my mind and my mind starts to wander. I start thinking about things I shouldn't that can still send me into a panic but they are definitely not as bad as they used to be and I have learned to control most of them.

You could try switching to Celexa, the earlier version of Lexapro, which is generic and consequently quite inexpensive, and since it's very similar to Lexapro, it might be easier to switch to than Effexor. But I still think if you want to quit a med, quit it before you start another, but if money forces you to switch, Celexa is the easiest switch.

If I am not mistaken Citalopram is Celexa. A very effective SSRI from what I have heard. It's about the only one I have never tried. There are some major differences between Effexor and Celexa. Effexor being an SNRI that works primarily by inhibiting the reuptake of Neurephinepherine. This Celexa choice may actually be better for you if you also suffer from Insomnia.

I was on Celexa, in the past, then switched back to Zoloft, which completely failed after a year. I am now back on Celexa, for about 3 weeks now. I am definately seeing a difference. I go back to my psychiatrist next week. It is important to keep the communication open, like the above posted said. I have even called mine on the phone. I rarely do so, so when I do, he knows it's important.

As the above poster stated, Citalopram (ie Celexa) would not be tested for on a pre-employment drug screen, as it is not a controlled substance or illicit drug. Just general info, always the best policy to be 100% honest when you're asked about medications/drugs you've ingested prior to the testing, rather than trying to skirt by and not have something detected. I'm assuming the Celexa was prescribed? If so, it doesn't hurt to mention it to the screeners.

Hey, well i been taking citalopram(40mg) almost for three years, i am 19 years old recently last week i been trying to stop taking them for the reason that later in life i want to be healthy and taking no type of medication because i want to have kids and have a family, but it seems not be happening for me i just started with the anxiety last night and i hate the side effects on not taking the medication. well my main question is if its safe taking this medication while pregnancy?

Hi I found Citalopram a very disturbing drug, as soon as I took it I felt like I had been drugged with somethimg, I heard noises and felt very paranoid. I was ok with zoloft though apart from some agitation. Citalopram is meant to be very good for anxiety and depression but I didn't like it all and my doctor didn't like me on it either.

Hi, celexa works differently with everyone. It makes me sleepy.

but after huge waves of depression due to the lack of energy,fatiuge ect i was totaly exhasted so i started to take this new citalopram the doctor prescribed. I have been taking them for 4 weeks now and already am felling really good. Infact i cant belive the vast improvement. I have had no migranes,no brain fog, no dizziness am thinking on my feet my vocab has speeded back up and i can thin clearer than i have in the past 2 years.
