Avatar m tn It was helpful for me that I got every piece of information about bipolar. I was misdiagnosed with depression for years. I also was confused when started to educate myself about bipolar and find myself as bipolar 2. Believe me - you will get used to it. It takes some time to digest it. And it also takes some time to get help you need. My father was like you - very angry and aggressive when drunk, mood swings etc.
Avatar m tn I have been to the doctors recently in trying to fix my mental health, After informing them that I was feeling depressed with anxiety, they gave me a prescription for citalopram. I could not get therapy for three or four months, so for some reason I didn't bother with it, hoping in time that the citalopram would get me back on my feet.
Avatar m tn s it also helps with the post withdrawal depression that is so common stick with it for a wile then have you doctor ween you off it....I have taken it on and off for years for bipolar disorder .......
1571730 tn?1314725245 I am really surprised they put you on another antidepressant without a mood stabilizer like lamotrigine, or lithium. You mention doctor but not psychiatrist. For bipolar it is best if you can see a psychiatrist. They just know more about bipolar and medication. Wellbutrin ended up causing me to ultridian cycle (cycling in an out of hypomania/depression every few days, less sometimes). It made me ancy and it didn't work for me at all.
1441157 tn?1284075251 I have bipolar 2 disorder. I have done fine on Lamictal at 200mg for years. after a while we had to add Klonpin for anxiety and up it. I am now on 3 mg. I went through a long depression and decided to take Cymbalta, After about 2 months I had no sexual fuction (female), headaches, constipation, excessive sweating. I weaned off. Felt great for a few weeks now I am depressed again. I get triggers. What can I take for depression with low side effects? Like no weight gain and sexual disfuction.
1257808 tn?1322762215 Please read all side effects on the meds you take. Always go with the lowest dose that works for you. Many pdoc's just randomly increase a med for no reason at all, disregarding that the lower dose works. The more of a med you take, the more chance of side effects. That's not to say you won't get any side effects on any dosage. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar n tn I am a 32 year old woman with children i have been struggling with bouts of depression for about 10 years but keep shrugging it off and was (being strong) recently things have got worse my mum is bi-polor and im worried i might have the same thing. I have been on citalopram for 5 weeks and also taking buspirone 5mg tablets to calm me down.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am on Citalopram for years as was mistakenly diagnosed with depression (i am bipolar 2). I wouldn't say Citalopram is additictive . I would say it is very gentle drug compare to others eg Effexor. However you can't stop taking it once as it will lead into side effects. It happened to me that after just three days of not having it I was very depressed, angry and bit of out of myself. I was on 20 mg. I am still on it but started to take mood stabilaser as well.
718427 tn?1230219137 Some time ago over Christmas I asked people for help in this forum with what I thought were normal mood swings and feelings of self harm, after speaking to a doctor at length (I've had my symptoms for years but only sought help after reading similar accounts of people on here) she thinks it's highly likely to be BP, as I'm a student away from home and use the NHS the only thing she could do was place me on Citalopram and keep seeing me every week to check my moods.
Avatar f tn I agree with triedeverymed, perhaps you should speak to your doc about your medication, I was originally on depakote and citalopram and found out that citalopram is not good for bp??!! Obviously I am not a doctor and it does seem to depend on who you see, they all have different ideas. I think it is quite common to miss your "highs", my pdoc just smiled knowingly when I told her I did but whatever you do don't come off your medication without medical support and advice.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I take medication for bipolar II, however this doesn't seem to help at all with my anxiety issues. My pdoc is referring me to an anxiety management group but I'm scared of going, I know that if I'm having a parituclarly bad day I won't be able to get out the door to go the meeting!
1625195 tn?1332178662 I don't know about the law-suit. The correct term for the relationship between Celexa and Citalopram is not that the Citalopram is a "substitute". It is the "generic" version. Technically, they are the same. One is just usually cheaper to get than the other. "Celexa" is a name brand produced by a particular drug company. Risperidone is the generic form of Risperdal. Risperdal is classified as an anti-psychotic. It's also used as a mood stabilizer.
653999 tn?1225016486 Hi, I'm taking Citalopram to, in my case 40mg. I've also just started on Stelazine 5mg for my racing thoughts and anxiety! I'm still not convinced after 8 weeks on the Citalopram that it's the right drug for me but my doctors keep telling me to bear with it. I've been up and down like a yo-yo so if nothing else it'll be interesting to see how you get on.
Avatar m tn any words of wisdom would be greatly aprpreciated oh as for medication I have been on citalopram for the last 2 months but has not had an affect at stabalising my moods, and the pshychiatrist is at the moment deciding which medication would suit me the best.
Avatar f tn asp The key to bipolar from where I sit is education - educating yourself about your meds and their effects and side effects and about the disease and how you behave, the triggers and danger points is a vital weapon in the war for control of your mind - it wont stop you getting blindsided by the unusual or when things spiral out of control which is what has happened to me this past few weeks but it will help you recognise when you are riding on the egde so you can seek help and it make you a b
Avatar n tn I had been on Citalopram (celexa) 20 mg for 4 years. I had tried getting off of the pills several times but each time I got through about 1 week and then couldn't handle it. About 3 weeks ago I took my last pill and I am starting to feel pretty decent, here's how I did it: 1) I tried to make sure I had my **** together in my life and attempted to avoid things that stressed me out (which I didn't - but I tried! still went out for drinks...
Avatar f tn Hi antidepressant work different for many people...im bipolar so I have been on and off them for years .... for me im like you I feel the effects in a week.....often I go into a mania and have to discontinue them.. (the reason why I go on and off them)...so what your feeling is normal for some people like you and I .............Gnarly.................
309783 tn?1271958229 My best friend has been taking citalopram for anxiety. She returned from the doctors today with a prescription for concurrent risperdal for OCD. I know her very well. We used to work together and now that we've left work we spend all day together. In the evenings we go to each others houses for supper, our kids all play together and we frequently spend the night at each other's house. We are in constant text contact.
Avatar f tn I am seeing the nurse practicianer (SP?) today for a med check. They told me not to take the citalopram last night and see how it goes. I work with the worst panic attack this morning. I am feeling a little lost and hopeless as to what to do now.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone I started having severe anxiety attacks two month ago, though I have suffered with anxiety my whole life. I have been on Citalopram for four days now and the side effects seems to be increasing. I am on a small dose, one quarter of a 20 mg tablet. I am suppose to go up to one half of a 20 mg tab today but am afraid to. I am jittery, have headaches, am groggy but panic when I try to sleep, have heat flashes through my upper body, my eyes feels strange...the list goes on.
Avatar f tn lexapro/cipralex/escitalopram I took it until yesterday for 2 months. it's very good but I had to stop it as I wasn't on an MS like you. True it works fast. In different forums people either take it or its cousin cipram/celexa/citalopram incidentally same danis company. Or wellbutrin too is well tolerated by BP pts. Of course don't exceed dose otherwise will bring mania but i assume not for you as you take lamictal.
589461 tn?1286432865 I was on citalopram for a year, and it cause me anxiety at higher levels. Personally, mood stabilzers help a heck of a lot more. I was told one of the key things is that the ssri's poop out after a while with cyclothemia, and I am a text book example of that. I went on for 15 years switching. The mood tracker on this site is great, I print mine when I take it to my pdoc! I can have a few mood swings a day, including anxiety..
Avatar f tn I have days where I think my world is going to crash around me. But it does pass and things go back to as normal as tx will allow. Comes and goes in waves. If you think you can benefit from an AD then see your doctor. In my case no, but many do. It isn't that I'm opposed to them, they just don't work for me. Unfortunately, AD's are not a cure all for everyone, depends on the individual.
